- Michael Fonfara was born on August 11, 1946 in Stevensville, Ontario, Canada. He is known for Rock & Rule (1983), A Decade Under the Influence (2003) and Boiling Ice: Lou Reed (1975). He died on January 8, 2021 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- In the 1970s he was a member of Rough Trade (Carole Pope) and n the backing band of Lou Reed.
- He is a multiple Maple Blues Award winner as Piano/Keyboardist of the year and a Juno Award winner with the Downchild Blues Band.
- In the late 1970s he was a member of the NY pop rock band Tycoon and was a session musician on Foreigner's smash hit "Urgent".
- Started his career as a professional musician in 1963 when he started playing in the Toronto band, Lee Jackson & The Checkmates which evolved into Jon and Lee & The Checkmates. Members of the band ultimately formed the nucleus of the later bands Rhinoceros and Blackstone.
