CBS' surprise hit show finished its first season run, and it has been a season full of ups and downs.
Fire Country Season 1 delivered entertaining hours of television thanks to a great storyline, characters, and emergencies.
That's not to say it didn't have some flaws, and in our season report card, we look at some of its strongest suits and ways it can improve into Fire Country Season 2.
Early reviews of the show pegged it as another firefighting drama that couldn't quite measure up in a landscape full of shows in the same genre in every major broadcast network.
And while that might be true to some extent, what sets it apart is the perfect balance between character development, action, and stellar writing.
Best character development - Jake Crawford
In the early episodes, Jake and Bode went through a nemesis stage. They had been friends, but Riley's death and Bode's...

There comes a time when you must make a stand no matter how hard the options are.
Many characters decided what they wanted on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 21 while a fire raged in a nearby winery.
Loyalties were tested, and convictions were overturned.
Being the Fire Country Season 1 penultimate episode, we expected a lot of development from the characters as the storyline for the second season materializes.
Bode's immediate concern was ensuring he was paroled, but other hanging issues kept pulling him back to his former life.
Caring for others is great, but sometimes you can put yourself on the line too much.
Everyone was almost sure that Bode would be paroled, which raised fears in other inmates who did not have that possibility. There was nothing Bode could have said to calm them down apart from imploring them not to make a decision they would regret.

We are inching closer to the parole hearing and, with it, the season finale.
Bode finally decided what he wanted for his life on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 20 when he ditched the prison code and looked out for his best interests. That was a significant moment because it showed that he was ready to move to the next stage of his life.
Spoilers for Fire Country Season 1 Episode 21 tease another wild hour when Three Rock and Station 42 respond to an intentionally lit fire that spirals out of control.
Fires are tricky because they are unpredictable. A change in the wind's direction can divert fire to a different area. A slight increase in wind speed can turn a small fire into a raging monster.
Events in this episode revolve around a high-value winery where a fire overpowers its lighters and threatens to burn everything around to dust.

We saw the departure of another villain on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 20 after Bode snitched on Slepeer.
Our Fire Country Fanatics Jasmine, Dale, and Denis discuss the implications of that decision, whether they think Sleeper left too quickly and if he will return.
They also discuss the episode's biggest moments, including Walter Leone, Manny's new offer, and how they would rate the emergency.
Bode snitched. React!
Jasmine: It was in everyone's best interest. Sleeper presented a problem and posed a threat bigger than Bode could manage, risking too many lives. It needed to happen.
Dale: I feel Gabriela got through to him so that he understood that he has to live by the rules of the outside world, not prison rules if he’s ever going to transition from inside to outside successfully.
That means doing the right thing, even if it might be construed as snitching by the other prisoners.

Monday night’s Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was a bonafide lovefest for Karl Lagerfeld, whose work is showcased in the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, opening Friday.
With some Met Gala themes, the sartorial choices can be a tad all over the place, and decidedly rooted in causing a social-media frenzy. While the latter was certainly true with several looks (hello, Jared Leto), the overall vibe Monday evening was rooted in paying tribute not only to the many, many designs Lagerfeld produced during his six-decade career but also to the elements that defined the man himself and the design codes he happily embraced within the iconic houses he famously oversaw.
Chanel, the gala’s primary sponsor, was the clear winner in that equation, not only in the number of stars dressed by the legendary French house — which included Nicole Kidman,...

Awareness is what makes Fire Country what it is. Nothing is left to chance.
Inmate firefighters and station 42 found themselves in the middle of a wrecked train and bus on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 18.
The trauma Eve had been accumulating throughout finally became too much to bear, and she nearly botched the whole operation by behaving carelessly.
Jake was not over one of the most upsetting events of his life when he was accused of being an arsonist, and no one supported or showed trust in him. This prompted Dr. Lilly Crawford to show up unannounced and support her son.
One of our biggest criticisms about the show was how much they kept putting Eve through traumatic situations and then moving on as if nothing had happened.
From having a building come crashing down and nearly killing her and a girl she was seeing to pulling off a rescue...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 1 Episode 18 “Off the Rails.”] Bode (Max Thieriot) gets some good news in the latest episode of Fire Country — a date for his parole hearing — but it seems like everyone else is more excited about it than he is. Manny (Kevin Alejandro) is a bit wary of him putting himself in danger at the scene of a train crash — where they meet train hopper Robin (Kane Brown), who leaves his bag of cash behind — because he wants to make sure Bode is still alive when that date arrives. And Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) starts looking to their future together, eventually getting him to come around to talking about the possibilities. Meanwhile, what Vince (Billy Burke) and Sharon (Diane Farr) come to realize by episode’s end is that Eve (Jules Latimer) has been struggling with her mental health and likely self-medicating when she hits the bars. Thieriot (who’s...

The identity of the infamous investigator got revealed on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 17, but that also had real effects.
Jake was hurt after he lacked support from people with whom he had placed much trust.
Our Fire Country Fanatics Jasmine, Dale, and Denis discussed the episode's most significant moment, including whether Gabriella has what it takes to graduate, if Jake should forgive Sharon and Vince and whether Colin will be missed.
What did you think of the investigator?
Dale: She did her job fine but wasn't particularly noteworthy. She was impartial as her position required.
But the flip side was that she had no skin in the game. Sharon believed in Jake and worked hard to prove his innocence, getting there first. Same with Bode, who took time out in the middle of a fire to track down the real arsonist.
