Warner Bros. TV has suspended its overall deals with Bill Lawrence, Mindy Kaling, Greg Berlanti and several other producers amid the historic Hollywood double strike, according to media reports.
J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, John Wells and Chuck Lorre are among the producers who were also impacted by the suspensions, though their deals may have been impacted earlier in the strike.
The news comes nearly four months after studios including Amazon, HBO, Warner Bros. TV, NBCUniversal, Disney, CBS Studios began suspending deals at the onset on the WGA strike in May. That round of suspensions was mostly limited to writers, as producers whose shows were in production could continue on amid the WGA strike before SAG-AFTRA members joined writers on the picket line in mid-July.
Writers who publicly shared their suspension include “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin, who shared in a July blog post that he is “one...

The WGA strike has reached the upper echelon of overall deals at Warner Bros. Television Group.

Abrams’ Bad Robot (Duster), Greg Berlanti (Superman & Lois), Chuck Lorre (Bob Hearts Abishola), Bill Lawrence (Shrinking), John Wells (Maid), Mindy Kaling (Sex Lives of College Girls). Sources say Lorre’s multiyear pact with his decades-long studio was quietly suspended in May, a week into the strike, with Wells’ deal a month later.
Reps for the Channing Dungey-led Wbtvg declined to comment.
The news comes as the Writers Guild of America has entered the fourth month of its strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers over such issues as residuals, AI and streaming transparency.

HBO Max, J.J. Abrams, and Latoya Morgan plan to introduce audiences to Duster, a period drama set in the Southwest starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson. Duster is a concept Abrams and Morgan have been kicking around since April 2020, when it nearly got the green light from then HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly. The project remained in limbo since then, with HBO Max labeling it “in development.” The time has come for HBO Max to give Duster a series order after shooting a pilot episode.
Duster stars Rachel Hilson as Nina, the first Black FBI agent, who, in 1972, travels to the Southwest and gains a getaway driver, played by Josh Holloway. Together, the duo aims to take down a crime syndicate taking root in the area. Keith David, Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez, and Benjamin Charles Watson also star.

Exclusive: Jennifer Garner has pulled out of the long-in-the-works Apple TV+ limited series My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV. As a result, the streamer has opted not to go forward with the project that it had landed with a straight-to-series order in 2018. Reps for Apple, Bad Robot, Wbtv and Garner declined comment.
According to sources, Garner exited My Glory Was I Had Such Friend for scheduling reasons. The show has taken quite awhile to get off the ground, and the Alias alumna is currently filming another Apple TV+ limited series, The Last Thing He Told Me, an adaptation of Laura Dave’s bestselling novel, which is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.
