Three students from New York and one from Northern California took home gold medals Sunday night at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 31st annual Student Academy Awards competition. In all, 13 students from the United States and one from Denmark received awards. In the alternative film category, the gold medal went to S.P.I.C.: The Storyboard of My Life by Robert Castillo of the School of Visual Arts in New York, while the silver medal was awarded to Focus by Bill Ridlehoover and Nilanjan Lahiri of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. No bronze medal was awarded in the category.
