- [regarding Marc Walkow, Noboru Iguchi and Yoshihiro Nishimura] Outcast Cinema's Marc Walkow [is] the true source of virtually all English language Iguchi and Nishimura information online.
- [regarding Sion Sono and Andrew Mack] Watch some more Sono and you'll see a VERY consistent thread of misogyny in his work. This is a long, long way from being an isolated occurrence and I very much share Andrew's opinion that it reflects his general thinking.
- [on Zack Snyder] Though I'm certain this will come as news to Sucker Punch writer-director-producer Zack Snyder, his latest work has left me convinced that he does not hold women in particularly high regard.
- [regarding himself and Michael Moore] I am also a socially aware type with politics largely in line with Moore's own views.
- [on Embodiment of Evil (2008)] If there's one call I'd like to take back from 2008 it's recommending against Embodiment of Evil for festival play.
- [regarding Sion Sono and Tag (2015)] Sono, though? I've seen pretty much his entire body of work and it's littered with pointless, leering up skirt shots, rape-em-till-they-like-it male fantasy, and generally treats women as props. I've spent time with him in person and watched how he interacts with women. I've looked at the sorts of things he says and does in the Japanese media and talked directly with people who have worked with him across multiple projects who just laugh and say, 'Of course he's a misogynist, how is that even a question?' My opinion on Tag is very well grounded.
- [on Takashi Miike] I stopped watching Miike films for a few years because of the run of rape fantasy he was on for a while there. Man's frequently brilliant but also frequently moves into some fairly indefensible territory.
- [regarding Shinjuku Swan (2015) and Sion Sono] His treatment of women is frequently appalling and given the entire premise of this I'm not expecting him to exactly temper those urges. Man's a genius in a whole lot of ways but I'm not even remotely comfortable glossing over the misogyny that pops up frequently in his stuff.
