Check out this pilot for a possible horror tv series, Rot (Rotten), from Dutch filmmaker Nick Jongerius, director of the 2016 horror flick The Windmill. This just released on YouTube yesterday and Jongerius also sent us the trailer as well. Both can be found below. Daan still regularly has nightmares about his dead domineering father and bears the scars from his belt on his body. But shortly after the birth of his own son, Daan starts to literally see his father in ghostly apparitions surrounding a patch of mould on the wall in the baby’s room. Daan tries everything to remove the mould, but it keeps returning and growing – just like the manifestations of his dead father. As Daan’s paranoid behavior worsens and...

Massacre this, massacre that… Thanks to the infamy of Tobe Hooper’s now-classic 70s exploitation shocker The Texas Chainsaw Massacre it seems that we can’t escape a horrifying cinematic massacre… The latest film to share this horror moniker is The Windmill Massacre – an odd title, and an even odder location for a horror movie. But, to steal a much-maligned English idiom, don’t judge a book by its cover. Or in this case, a film by it’s title.
The Windmill Massacre tells the story of Jennifer, an Australian girl on the run who – after having her secret discovered at the Amsterdam home she works at as a nanny – joins a coach load of tourists on an idyllic rural tour of Holland’s world-famous windmills. However when...

When we first came across Dutch genre aficianado Nick Jongerius it was as the producer of local horror pictures Dood Eind and Frankenstein's Army. But in more recent days, Jongerius has crossed the aisle away from production and in to writing and directing his own material. His debut feature The Windmill Massacre - released in the Us as The Windmill - was a full on, classically styled slasher film that Jongerius launched first with a proof of concept short film before moving on to the full feature. Well, Jongerius is back and following that same pattern again, having just shared with us a short film proof of concept for his new project. But while the approach...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Mongrel Media. **there are a few minor spoilers here. Director: Nick Jongerius. Writers: Nick Jongerius, Chris W. Mitchell and Suzy Quid. Cast: Noah Taylor, Charlotte Beaumont, Patrick Baladi, Adam Thomas Wright and Ben Batt. Nick Jongerius' first feature film was initially titled The Windmill Massacre. In the United States and Canadian markets, the film has been renamed to the much more placid The Windmill. Jongerius bloody trip to the Netherlands, involves an ancient urban legend. Several morally corrupt holidaymakers are set to interact with the killer in this urban legend, first hand. And, The Windmill relies on a Catholic morality, in which sinners must be punished. This is the Old Testament though, so there is no forgiveness on the horizon, for anyone. Then, characters face a supernatural villain. Everything favours this burned and scarred killer. And, The Windmill is often entertaining,...

Nick Jongerius' The Windmill Massacre, retitled The Windmill, is set to release this November in Canada. Already released in the USA on VOD, this Dutch shot film is definitely a slasher. In the film, an ancient legend grinds up the bones of trespassers, in a sinister-looking mill. The film stars: Bart Klever, Charlotte Beaumont and many others. A preview of the film's Canadian release is hosted here. The film's official trailer shows Jennifer (Beaumont), on the run. She escapes into the Dutch countryside, with a group of tourists. With his horror film The Windmill now in release director Nick Jongerius is turning his attention to his next project, a scifi thriller titled The Abductee. While plot details are being kept under wraps for now Jongerius pitches it as somewhere in the vein of Scanners meets Invasion Of The Body Snatchers with its roots in an actual notorious abduction case. The Windmill and Frankenstein's Army writer Chris Mitchell is handling the script with an eye to shoot in autumn 2017. And to tide you over until then we've got the first piece of concept art for you below! Remember you can click to enlarge!...

We have been given a clip from Nick Jongerius' debut feature film The Windmill. In this clip, Ruby, played by English actress Fiona Hampton (Kingsman The Secret Service), is lured outside from the shelter of an abandoned church. The Japanese lanterns will make sense when you watch the film. So does her impending death. In my review of The Windmill I mentioned that some of the kills seemed to be inspired by slasher films like Wes Craven's Elm Street series. This was one of those kills that reminded me of that director's work, in the supernatural slasher realcom. There are far bloodier and more violent kills in the film. Trust me. Check it out if you want to see more. It is out now in...

Dutch horror films don’t get any more on-brand than The Windmill. Maybe a horror movie about the little Dutch boy who plugged that dam and saved Holland? Nah. Big, wooden windmills acting as a gateway to Hell screams Dutch horror, much like the Australian main character, the Asian sidekick….alright, there’s a bit more diversity past locale stereotyping. In any case, director Nick Jongerius spills buckets of gore all over the Netherlands, as a demon dispatches sinners with his all-healing scythe. Heads roll in the name of soulful enlightenment, because karma is quite the bitch in this European slasher import. Grab your clogs and throw on a poncho, because Holland’s hottest sightseeing tour is about to get messy. Like messy/gory, but also messy scripting, and messy crafting.
The film’s protagonist ends up being Jennifer (Charlotte Beaumont), a homeless Aussie transplant who just got outted as being an illegal.

In his new film, The Windmill, Nick Jongerius transforms one of Holland's picturesque tourist attractions into a hub of blood-soaked horror. With XLrator Media releasing The Windmill on VOD and iTunes this Tuesday, followed by a theatrical release on October 28th, we caught up with Jongerius for our latest Q&A feature.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Nick. When did you first come up with the idea for The Windmill?
Nick Jongerius: My pleasure. Thanks for your interest in the film. I first started thinking about the idea for this film after Frankenstein's Army. Our investors at that time were really interested in Holland, especially Amsterdam—the dikes, windmills, clogs, etc. This triggered me. I thought, "What if we use these famous touristic symbols of Holland and drench them in blood? Sort of turning it upside down. From there we shot a proof of concept,...

"Without windmills, there would be no Holland." XLrator Media has debuted the first official trailer for indie horror The Windmill, originally known as The Windmill Massacre, from The Netherlands. The film is about an Australian girl escaping her past visiting The Netherlands, where she ends up on a tourist bus taking people to all the famous windmills in the country. The bus breaks down near an infamous windmill where "legend has it, a Devil-worshiping miller once ground the bones of locals instead of grain" and people begin to disappear. The cast includes Charlotte Beaumont, Noah Taylor, Patrick Baladi, Ben Batt, Tanroh Ishida and Fiona Hampton. This seems like it might be fun, with plenty of gore for horror fans. One review says this film "isn't your average slasher" so don't expect the usual going in. Check it out below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Nick Jongerius' The Windmill,...
