Many of the songs John Lennon wrote for the Beatles were introspective. He wrote about his feelings and relationships, both with his first wife, Cynthia, and Yoko Ono. In 1964, he wrote the song “If I Fell” about an affair. The original lyrics were a bit harsher on the betrayed partner in the song than in the final version.
John Lennon toned down the lyrics of a Beatles song
In 1964, Lennon wrote the ballad “If I Fell.” Lennon admitted it was semi-autobiographical.
“That’s my first attempt at a ballad proper,” he said in the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview With John Lennon and Yoko Ono by David Sheff. “That was the precursor to ‘In My Life.’ It has the same chord sequences as ‘In My Life’: D and B minor and E minor, those kind of things. And it’s semi-autobiographical, but not consciously. It...

Paul McCartney wrote a large portion of The Beatles’ songs based on a variety of his personal experiences. “Let It Be” came to him after having a dream about his mother and he wrote “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window” after a fan did just that. Beatles associate Alistair Taylor believed McCartney wrote a different Beatles song after a seemingly paranormal experience.
Paul McCartney wrote a Beatles song after a strange experience
In 1967, McCartney and Taylor were walking McCartney’s dog Martha in the morning. As they turned to look for Martha, they realized a man was behind them.
“We turned round to go and suddenly there he was standing behind us,” Taylor said, per the book A Hard Day’s Write: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song by Steve Turner. “He was a middle-aged man, very respectably dressed in a belted raincoat. Nothing in that, you may think,...

In the latter half of the 1960s, George Harrison began writing more songs for The Beatles. While he hadn’t had much interest in songwriting early in the band’s career, he took it more seriously in later years. He was so dedicated to songwriting that he wrote one song while reeling from jetlag.
George Harrison wrote 1 Beatles song while suffering from jetlag
In 1967, Harrison traveled to Los Angeles with his wife, Pattie Boyd, road manager, Neil Aspinall, and friend, Alex Mardas. He went from the airport to his rental home, where Beatles press officer Derek Taylor was due to meet him. Taylor was running late, though.
“By the time we got there the song was virtually intact,” Taylor said, per the book A Hard Day’s Write: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song by Steve Turner. “Of course, at the time I felt very bad. Here were these two...

In 1995, The Beatles released “Free as a Bird,” their first new song in years. John Lennon originally wrote it in 1977, and his surviving bandmates worked on it years later. While the song was a success on the charts, longtime Beatles producer George Martin wasn’t sure how he felt about it. He gave it his stamp of approval but felt it sounded a bit odd.
George Martin wasn’t sure about the finished product of a late Beatles song
At the start of 1994, Paul McCartney called Yoko Ono to wish her a happy New Year. Through this conversation and further ones, they began discussing the possibility of working on some of Lennon’s home demos and releasing them as Beatles songs.
“I liked ‘Free As A Bird’ immediately,” McCartney said in the book A Hard Day’s Write: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song by Steve Turner. “I liked the melody.

Paul McCartney wrote “Hello, Goodbye” in 1967. The song became a non-album single and has endured as one of their better-known hits. At this stage in The Beatles’ career, McCartney and John Lennon were writing separately, but McCartney still had a bit of help on the song. He was trying to teach songwriting to Alistair Taylor when he got the idea for “Hello, Goodbye.”
Paul McCartney wrote ‘Hello, Goodbye’ during a songwriting lesson
Taylor, who was the assistant to Beatles manager Brian Epstein, asked McCartney how he wrote songs. At this point, McCartney had become an incredibly prolific writer. The Beatles were at their peak, and he had written countless hits for the band. McCartney took the question as an opportunity to give Taylor a songwriting lesson at the harmonium in his living room.
He instructed Taylor to say the opposite of whatever he said: black, white; stop, go; yes, no.

Paul McCartney‘s “Nothing Too Much Just Out of Sight” has something in common with The Beatles‘ “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da.” The same person gave the singer-songwriter both of the tunes’ names.
Paul McCartney | Dave Hogan/Getty Images A friend gave Paul the name The Beatles’ ‘Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da’
In his book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that he used to meet his Nigerian friend, Jimmy Scott, in London clubs in the 1960s. Scott was a conga player who worked with Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones.
Around the time that he became friends with Paul, Scott had a band called the Ob-la-di Ob-la-da Band. According to All Music, the name came from a Yoruba phrase that Scott often used, “ob-la-di ob-la-da,” which translates to “life goes on.”

In the 1960s, The Beatles were the biggest band in the world, and their fans were willing to do anything to feel closer to them. This included breaking into their homes. While this seems like an extreme action to take, it happened more than once. Here are three times Beatles fans broke into their homes and stole things.

Before George Harrison and his first wife Pattie Boyd married, she had moved a number of items into his home. His property had a high fence, but fans still managed to make their way onto the grounds.
“The gate was operated manually, though, and it wasn’t long before the marauding fans discovered where George lived,” she wrote in her book Wonderful Tonight. “Hordes of girls used to hang about outside, waiting for me to go out.

Denis O’Dell, the British film producer whose association with The Beatles earned him the rare honor of being mentioned, if obliquely, in one of the group’s songs, died of natural causes at his home in Spain last night. He was 98.
His death was announced to the Associated Press in Lisbon, Portugal, by son Arran O’Dell.
O’Dell had worked on a number of films, including It’s A Wonderful World, Tread Softly Stranger (both 1958) and The Playboy of the Western World (1962) when he signed on as associate producer of A Hard Day’s Night in 1964, beginning an association with The Beatles that would return to public attention with the 2021 Peter Jackson-directed Disney+ documentary series The Beatles: Get Back. (O’Dell is the one who loaned the group Twickenham Studios for their planned TV special.)

By now, you're either in the thick of Goliath's final season, or you've already watched and cannot wait to read more about it.
That works out great since we still have more on the way.
During Goliath's virtual press day, we had the chance to chat with producer, director, and Season 3 showrunner, Lawrence Trilling so that we could pick his brain about where the ideas emanated from and a lot of other good stuff. Enjoy!
What if that had been the last thing that anybody saw of Billy McBride? How would that have made you feel?
I would've been sad. However, that was absolutely in our calculation that it might be the case. We did not know when we finished shooting season three whether there'd be a season four.
Right.
We wanted to design something that would be a satisfying conclusion if we didn't get the chance to come back,...

Today, Amazon Prime Video released the official trailer and key art for the highly anticipated fourth and final season of Goliath.
If we thought Billy McBride was a badass during the first three seasons, we might be in for a surprise.
Here's what we know.
Goliath is going out with a bang, taking on one of the biggest bads in recent history.
This time, the struggle we've become used to will have to come from somewhere other than an attorney barely scraping by and down on his luck.
His refreshingly frank partner in crime, Patty, takes a job at a prestigious white-shoe law firm in San Francisco, prompting Billy to return to his Big Law roots.
Together, they try to take down one of America’s most insidious Goliaths: the opioid industry.
With money behind them, we imagine there's nothing that will hold this dynamic duo down from slaying a pharmaceutical giant.

When Green River hit their groove, they played a vicious mix of snarling punk and gigantic hard-rock riffs. It was a heavy, menacing sound, and in the mid-Eighties, nobody really knew what to call it. “I think we just considered ourselves rock & roll guys who grew up on punk rock,” drummer Alex Shumway says now. “We realized that there was some music that we liked before we became hardcore kids that we were afraid we listened to, but then we admitted we liked it. And we started making music like that.
