††† (Crosses) — the duo of Chino Moreno (Deftones) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Shaun Lopez — recruited Run the Jewels rapper El-p for the track “Big Youth” on their 2023 album, Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete. Now they’ve teamed up for the song’s music video.
The clip arrives a day after Crosses launched their North American tour. Moreno and Lopez are set to play Denver on Friday (February 9th), with the outing running through March 11th in Seattle. You can get tickets via StubHub, where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.
The Rizz-edited video for “Big Youth” is an all-business performance clip that should give fans a glimpse into the duo’s stage show. Strobes and campy video effects overlay Lopez, who’s hunched over his gear as he provides the backbeat and synths, while Moreno paces back and forth while he physically wears the angst in his voice.

In the Aughts, Killer Mike was a fiery maelstrom, the South’s answer to Ice Cube, and an Atlanta polemicist comfortable with both dope-boy fantasies and bruising Black politics. But it’s been eleven years since R.A.P. Music, a classic pairing with rapper/producer El-p that inspired the two to form the world-conquering duo Run the Jewels. On his sixth album, Michael, the rapper focuses on his personal life, particularly his late mother and grandmother, with uncharacteristic empathy and restraint, even as he continues to utilize his uniquely brusque vocal style.

Killer Mike is gearing up to release his new album, Michael, this Friday, and he’s shared a collaboration with fellow Atlanta rappers André 3000 and Future called “Scientists & Engineers” as a final preview. Stream it below.
Also featuring a contribution from R&b singer Eryn Allen Kane, the “Scientists & Engineers” instrumental contains futuristic synths that contrast with the soulful backing vocals about living forever as all three rappers spit introspective verses. Whereas André hopes he’ll get a “second wind” at 80 and Future talks about turning “a trap house to a ranch,” Mike closes out the track by promising to keep it “a hundred percentage authentic.” He adds, “I got no gimmicks, so I ain’t protectin’ no image.”
Along with “Scientists & Engineers,” Mike shared the full list of features for the album, which includes Ty Dolla $ign, Curren$y, 2 Chainz, 6Lack, Kaash Paige, CeeLo Green, Jagged Edge, Mozzy,...

Atlanta post-punk outfit Algiers have acquired a rare verse from Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de la Rocha for their new song, “Irreversible Damage.”
“Irreversible Damage” is a blistering and relentless cut, built around ceaseless percussion, uneasy synths, and what even sounds like a drawn out version of an amber alert phone alarm. De la Rocha cuts through this chaos with some characteristically steely bars, spitting, “This a relapse / what it be god / No rehab for my jihad / A rapture in a grief storm / Time on my neck and it be gone.

Rage Against the Machine announced Thursday that they must cancel the upcoming European dates of their reunion tour due to Zack de la Rocha’s leg injury.
The singer suffered the injury on just the second show of the band’s pandemic-postponed reunion trek, and while he persevered through the pain by remaining seated for all subsequent shows on the Guy Fieri-attended first U.S. leg — which concludes Aug. 14 at New York’s Madison Square Garden — the band said the European shows in Aug. and Sept. were off “per medical guidance.

A drunk and stoned group of young dudes don’t make for the stealthiest cat-burgling team, but they’re definitely fun to watch. In the new video for Run the Jewels’ “Out of Sight,” four friends traipse through a palatial estate, while dodging laser beams and trying not to trip over their own feet. They eventually find what they’re looking for: a set of golden gloves — just like the ones pictured on the RTJ4 album cover — and a case of glowing jewels that trigger a psychedelic experience when eaten.

It starts with a fake TV-show intro, a shootout, a getaway, and a couple of outlaws hitting the road like they were the Thelma and Louise of hardcore agit-pop rap. It goes out not with a bang, but with grown men laying their souls bare while flipping the bird to a firing squad. During the 37 minutes that separates those moments on Run the Jewels’ RTJ4, you get a lot of what you’d expect from the dynamic duo of El-p and Killer Mike: sci-fi dystopias bumping up against socially conscious fuck you–itude,...

Judging from its MetaCritic score (a whopping 92 based on 21 reviews as of this writing), “RTJ4” is the most acclaimed album by Run the Jewels, the hip-hop duo consisting of Killer Mike and El-p. And that’s saying a lot since “RTJ2” scored 89 on the review aggregator and “Run the Jewels 3” scored 88. It also happens to be the biggest debut of their career, landing in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 singles chart — an all-time high for the duo. Does that make it a contender for a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, and maybe even a win?
“RTJ4” is a politically tinged collection at a time of widespread uprisings against police brutality, and Variety’s Andrew Barker describes it as “speaking to a nation in crisis with appropriately revolutionary fervor.” Spin’s Dan Weiss further elaborates on the collection’s political point of view: “Rather than bother with Donald Trump,...

History is a fickle motherfucker, but you gotta hand it to whatever forces have aligned to drop a new Run the Jewels record in this particular moment. : On RTJ4, the duo deliver their agit-rap gospel with the spry fire of a band making its debut. When they first got together for Run the Jewels in 2013, Rtj seemed like a bit of an odd couple. In a world more like the one we knew four months ago, Killer Mike would have been promoting “RTJ4,” the new album from Run the Jewels, his group with El-p, this week. But coronavirus, the death of George Floyd at the hand of Minneapolis police, and the ensuing violent protests across the entire country have changed all that.
Consequently, and in tandem with today’s “Blackout Tuesday” — the music industry’s self-imposed daylong shutdown in a statement of solidarity with the black community — Run the Jewels are declining to do any publicity for its new album until after June 5 (although El-p quietly dropped on of the songs from the album on Instagram Sunday).
However, Mike certainly has made his voice heard in recent days about the protests, whether writing under his legal name (Mike Render) for “Colorlines” or making a moving and heartfelt speech alongside Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms at a press conference Friday.

Capone focuses on the last year of the mobster’s life, with the dementia-stricken Capone ensconced in his Florida estate, ravaged by memories of his past.
