The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival ended its 6th edition last Thursday with the sold-out closing night East Coast Premiere of Rob Jabbaz’s The Sadness at Nitehawk Cinema and announced today its jury and audience award winners. Launching on October 14th with the NY Premiere of Mlungu Wam (Good Madam), Brooklyn Horror is proud to have welcomed back an eager and excited audience who packed the cinemas after a one year pandemic related hiatus and hosted a majority of sold-out screenings, with special highlights being the festival’s 35mm projection of Session 9, presented for its 20th anniversary with lead actor and co-writer Stephen Gevedon in attendance, and the US Premiere of local filmmaker Edoardo Vitaletti’s debut The Last Thing Mary Saw, with Rory Culkin and Vitaletti present for the Q&a.

“Scare Me,” written and directed by first-time filmmaker Josh Ruben, is a spook show stripped to the basics. A boy and a girl, Fred and Fanny (Ruben and Aya Cash of “You’re the Worst”), hole up in a snowbound cabin swapping scary tales by the fireplace. He postures as a horror novelist, director, screenwriter and actor (though he’s really a frustrated marketer). She really is a horror novelist, the hip new darling author of a zombie best-seller, which Fred finds as intimidating as a dark basement. “No judgies!” promises Fanny, goading him into going first. Yeah, right.

As we recently told you, Glass Eye Pix is taking its successful audio dramas Tales from Beyond the Pale out of the studio and onto the New York stage for four performances in October, and we now have the full lineup to share with those of you lucky enough to live close by.
A new twist on the vintage radio shows of yesteryear, Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid’s Tales from Beyond the Pale has already thrilled fans of the macabre with its first season of creepy dramas released last year. Now they are upping the ante and recording eight new original audio shows before a live audience.
Journey beyond the pale the first four Tuesdays in October as Fessenden and Co. present a double-bill of original genre stories performed by an exciting cast of special guests and featuring live music, live foley, and live sound effects by a team of audio artisans.
