Mary’s husband gets relocated for work which allows her to move back to her suburban hometown. As her family ties up loose ends back home, Mary moves into their new house all alone and….waits. Yet in this idealistic world, something seems very odd. The Ice Cream Man, a symbol of youth and good times, starts killing some of her neighbors. Mary soon learns that the suburbs are scarier in more ways that she ever remembered.
Going into The Ice Cream Truck I have to admit I had some lofty expectations… When I read this movie was directed by the grand-daughter of one Elmore Leonard. Now yes, I know I shouldn’t let that factor into how I choose my viewing but its a good place to start.

"You're the only one who has been to the other side and back." Screen Media Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Portals, an anthology film featuring a number of segments (three in total + a wrap-around story) all connected to cosmic events happening all over the world. After a series of blackouts, mysterious cosmic anomalies appear everywhere across. The few who are drawn to them, curious about what's inside, don't return. "With our collective love for horror anthologies, we wanted to challenge ourselves and do something new, unique and more cosmic from what's already been done previously," said creator and producer Chris White. Before it's time for us to serve up some turkey Stateside, here are my thoughts on two recent indie genre films I’ve had the pleasure of checking out: Megan Freels Johnston’s horror comedy The Ice Cream Truck and Jamie Dagg’s crime thriller Sweet Virginia, featuring Jon Bernthal.
The Ice Cream Truck: Akin to an early Tim Burton-esque take on the horrors of suburbia and adulthood, Johnston’s The Ice Cream Truck is a slightly absurd yet wholly relatable exploration of the anxieties of modern women, particularly those who don’t necessarily fit in with the typical “Bake Sale Moms” out there who always seem to have “it” together, living out their existences happily defined by their roles within their respective households.
In The Ice Cream Truck, we are introduced to Mary (Deanna Russo) who is anything but confident in the woman she has become over the years.

Watching Writer/ Director Megan Freels Johnston's The Ice Cream Truck is like venturing through a lucid nightmare. The main character of the dream operates with a logic that makes sense to the dreamer, but everyone around this person and every sequence is punctuated with the sense that something truly disturbing is lying in wait.
On the day Mary Marsh (Deanna Russo) moves back into her neighborhood, she deals with Stepford-like neighbors, a creepy furniture moving bloke and then there's the case of The Ice Cream man, who slowly drives up and down the streets of this neighborhood in his 1950's styled truck accompanied by an old fashioned tune set to haunt your dreams.
As Mary waits for her husband and two children to arrive from interstate, she navigates the strangeness that is suburbia, going to local parties, meeting young gardeners. All the while the Ice Cream Truck lurks.

A young mother settling into her new home faces temptations and threats in The Ice Cream Truck, Megan Freels Johnston's suburban slasher pic. Amid the familiar observations about the creepiness of middle-class conformity and the passing of youth, the sophomore filmmaker appears to be aiming for something a bit deeper. But this truck never gets into gear, and will have a very hard time tempting moviegoers on either large or small screens.

A preview for Megan Freels Johnston's The Ice Cream Truck launched last week. The film's first clip shows a serial killer, meeting character Mary (Deanna Russo). They talk in the darkness of night, about ice cream and something else? This film was recently picked up Uncork'd Entertainment, for distribution rights, at the European Film Market. The film also stars: John Redlinger (Thirst), Emil Johnsen, Hilary Barraford, Jeff Daniel Phillips and Lisa Ann Walter. Expected to release in 2017, a preview of the film's upcoming launch is hosted here. An early synopsis of the film focuses on Mary. She has moved back to her hometown, after her husband has relocated for work. Alone in the suburbs, she meets up with an Ice Cream Truck man. But now, she finds strange things occurring in her locale as this mysterious man patrols the neighbourhood. Johnston has already talked about her film's upcoming release date.

Amid its recent rebranding, USA can’t get no (more) Satisfaction, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The drama, about a married man who starts moonlighting as an escort after catching his wife in the throes of paid-for passion, lasted two seasons before getting the axe, but its long-term prospects seemed dismal from its inauspicious debut onward.
The writing was on the wall earlier this season, when USA quietly dumped the series in the Friday night death slot, letting it burn through its last ordered episodes then declining to order more. Suits exec producer Sean Jablonski was behind the show, which starred Matt Passmore and Stephanie Szostak as the married couple. Blair Redford, Katherine Lanasa, Michelle DeShon, and Deanna Russo also had main roles.

One thing we really appreciate about "Being Human" is that it doesn't dilly-dally with moving along its storyline. And it has some kick-ass guest stars, two of whom appear in these new stills from Episode 4.02, "That Time of the Month."
We had a chance to see the episode early, and trust us when we tell you to keep the Kleenex handy - along with guest stars Mark Pellegrino and Katharine Isabelle (see them below) and a twist we sure didn't see coming, it has heartbreak galore...

Syfy's version of UK hit "Being Human" gets better and better, and with Season 4 kicking off soon, we have some new promo photos, an update on which supporting characters are returning, and a look at what the roommates use when their wild nights come back to haunt them.
Since last summer's San Diego Comic-Con roundtable interviews, we've known that during the 13-episode Season 4 we'll be seeing returning guest stars Katharine Isabelle (Suzanna), Amy Aquino (Donna), Mark Pellegrino (Bishop), Kyle Schmid (Henry), Connor Price (Kenny), and Deanna Russo (Kat).
Included with the press materials that accompanied the "Roommate Survival Kit" that arrived at the DC offices over the weekend were two more names: Jesse Rath as Sally's brother, Robbie, and Sarah Allen as Rebecca, Aidan's tragic love interest in Season 1. (As an aside... Yay! This writer has been a big fan of Allen since the beginning.)

The Season 3 finale of Syfy's "Being Human" left all four roommates in a bad predicament. We brought back from Comic-Con a few clues of what's ahead in Season 4 along with the sizzle reel they shared with the fans.
First up was showrunner/executive producer Anna Fricke, who told us this year's theme is "destiny" and promised Season 4 will be "epic." We'll learn "everything happens for a reason." There won't be as many flashbacks as in years past, but we will see several returning guest stars like Amy Aquino, Mark Pellegrino, Kyle Schmid, and Deanna Russo.
As for the mysterious woman that looks just like Aidan's long dead wife (played by Katharine Isabelle), whom we saw emerge from a cab at the end of Season 3, we'll "find out exactly who she is" in Episode 4.01.
The always bubbly Meaghan Rath joined us next and teased that Sally will be "quite different" this...

Orlando Jones is no stranger to online video; the former MADtv performer previously starred in MysteryGuitarMan Joe Penna's Meridian web series. Now, Jones has been given a chance to show off his own creative skills with Tainted Love, an action comedy that recently took off on Machinima Prime. Tainted Love stars Jones as Black Barry, a hitman who gets tied up with a small potatoes thief named Jezebel (Deanna Russo) after he impregnates her. Things take a hairy turn after Barry incurs the wrath of his boss (Eric Roberts), and a fast-paced bloodbath soon ensues. A comment from Machinima on the series' trailer describes it as "Scott Pilgrim with guns," and this seems like an accurate enough description. Like Pilgrim, Tainted Love moves at an extremely quick pace, featuring plenty of quick cuts and embellished by the same colorful on-screen comic book decor that made Pilgrim a hit. Tainted...

Comedians Pete Holmes and Matt McCarthy are both hilarious individuals who have created or been a part of many high-quality endeavours. Together, however, with writer/director Oren Brimer, the duo have starred in and written the Badman series, with Brimer co-writing and directing, since 2011. A spoof of Christopher Nolan’s take on the Dark Knight, the series doesn’t poke fun at the films, however; rather, it re-imagines certain scenes with Batman as a bumbling fool who is not respected as much as he is tolerated and is often a source of frustration. The latest entry in the series sees the trio tackling a climactic moment from The Dark Knight Rises, with Deanna Russo along for the ride as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Ken Marino (Childrens Hospital) is starring in Yahoo's latest original: mock-reality series Burning Love, which is slated to premiere on the Yahoo! Comedy Channel June 4th. One part The Bachelor, one part Horrible People, Burning Love follows hunky fireman Mark Orlando (Marino) in his search for the perfect partner in a faux elimination-style reality show. Teeming with irony, Burning Love features all the accoutrements you'd expect from a network reality series: from champagne toasts, candles, heartbreak, bubble baths, chocolate, choreography, hair extensions, roller skating, betrayal, and spray-tans. "Mark Orlando is used to feeling the heat of fire," says the narrator in the series trailer. "But now he's looking for someone to ignite the flames of love." The trailer features Ben Stiller, the series' executive producer along with fellow Red Hour producers Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein, as well as Abominable Pictures’ Jonathan Stern, Marino, and Erica Oyama. Ok, so here’s the thing about Monday night’s Gossip Girl: While being somewhat confusing at some points and annoying at others, it was a slight improvement from what I have been seeing lately, with ‘slight’ being the operative word. Not since the season premiere have I cared about what will happen next on Gossip Girl this year. The childish behaviors of the college level characters (Serena, Dan, Vanessa, and especially Blair) make me wonder if the producers jumped the gun by putting them in college so soon. Just about every teen drama that I know has went three to four years in the high school department, with Veronica Mars being the exception. While the young people of Gossip Girl didn’t act like the average teens in season one and most of season two, it seems as if they have reverted backwards in terms of growing up.

You might be forgiven if, upon first glance, you mistook Real Life with Married People for a web series incarnation of the typical family sitcom. There’s the love-hate dynamic of the charismatic couple, the “fun” family activities that invariably go wrong, even the classic, familiar use of the living room couch as the dominant setting. Yet, as one grows accustomed to the personality and humor of the show, it doesn’t take long to realize that, even as it appears to lean upon these conventions of the sitcom genre, RLwMP is simultaneously lampooning them with a knowing wink and smile. Created by Destin Berthelot, Celia Finkelstein, and Deanna Russo (of The Young and the Restless and Knight Rider fame), each episode (so far) is confined to a short scene focusing upon a single topic, resulting in an understated, dialogue-driven show. The humor can at times be sublimely subtle, even...
