Almost no one can put away drinks like the debaucherous gang from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but legendary baseball player Wade Boggs would give them a run for their money. In the season 10 premiere, the dive bar owners hop on a cross-country flight to tackle Boggs' record of 70 beers in transit. The actual number is disputed — Boggs himself claims it's even higher than legend would have us believe — but the episode's premise remains hilarious.
"[Boggs] was famous for baseball, he was also famous for the amount of beer he could drink," series co-creator and star Charlie Day explained to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show when the episode first aired. "Supposedly, when they would have these cross-country flights, he would drink on average 40 to 50, some say 70 beers. So our characters are trying to break that record in the episode ... and then see if we can hit a baseball the next day,...

While Jason Blum has called Universal’s The Black Phone the “scariest movie” he’s ever produced, its young star Mason Thames, 14, says his experience making the movie was actually “all fun.” This despite the fact that his character, Finney — a baseball player who’s bullied at school and has an alcoholic father — is locked up in the basement of a house in a suburban town in Colorado where he’s threatened by an unnamed man known as The Grabber (played by Ethan Hawke). Thames — a Dallas-area native who studied ballet for four years before pursuing acting — brings an impressive mix of vulnerability, spiritedness and desperation to his role in the 1970s-set retro-horror film, directed by Scott Derrickson and due out June 24.

The recently launched Hollywood Support Staff Relief Fund, aimed at providing assistants and support staffers financial aid amid the coronavirus-induced production shutdown, is now shutting down its GoFundMe and merging with the Actors Fund. It will continue raising funds under that banner.
“Despite its name, the Actors Fund was created to assist all industry members with financial, medical and emotional struggles year-round,” wrote fund co-creator and #PayUpHollywood movement founder Liz Alper in a Medium post Friday. “Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, they’ve issued over $2 million in relief funds to qualified entertainment workers in need. When Fox canceled “The Mick” (for reasons that are still unclear to everyone who likes quality comedy programming) fans were left with a devastating cliffhanger that now may never be resolved.
As you’ll remember, but may want to forget, the Season 2 finale (and now series finale) ended with Mickey (Kaitlin Olson) and the gang huddled around an unconscious Sabrina (Sofia Black-d’Elia), right after she had been electrocuted in a freak accident after her high school graduation. When they receive the news that the teen’s cognitive ability and/or motor functions could be forever damaged, they all stand there silently pondering what that will mean.
But co-creators Josh and Dave Chernin weren’t too concerned about wrapping up the sophomore run in such a dark way, as they thought they’d be renewed. Oops.

For fans of The Mick, the only thing more devastating than the Fox comedy’s recent cancellation was the cliffhanger that brought the series to a close.
A refresher: The finale ended with Mickey and the gang huddled around a freshly electrocuted Sabrina, reeling from the news that the accident could have affected her cognitive ability and/or motor functions. It was a dark way to end the season, even for a show that once blew up an old lady with her own oxygen tank, but the show’s creators stand by it — mostly because they weren’t expecting to be cancelled.

Fox premiered three new comedies last season, renewed The Mick and cancelled the other two. A “Mick” is defined as an Irishman. At least, that’s what the dictionary states, but looking beyond the definition, one finds a few key words: It’s an “informal” and “offensive” term, making the meaning found on UrbanDictionary.com — the dictionary for the streets — all the more appropriate.
Mick – derogatory word for Irish people. The origin of the word is disputed. Some believe “mick” comes from the common “Mc” in many Irish names: McSorley, McNeil, McFlannagan, etc. Others believe it’s related to the sound of a drunken hiccup. e.g. “I was the captain *mick* of a ship *mick* for three years!”
Also, “Mick” is the word that “spick” [a derogatory term for Spanish people] came from.
With all this in mind, merely titling a show “The Mick” invites the assumption of utter outrageousness; content aimed to offend sensitive viewers brave enough to tackle it and delight those who favor abysmal behavior. Putting “It...

Wednesday’s line-up is continuing to be the strongest this fall as the new shows begin to find their footing. Back in the Game is a lot stronger this week, as “Play Hard or Go Home” starts to follow a more enjoyable format. The episode is much more entertaining than the first two, as it finds a way to include all of the characters. So far the focus is usually just on Terry and while it is entertaining, the show really feels like it’s missing something. The strongest part of this episode is that The Cannon gets a bigger and more meaningful storyline.
