2000 Ad: Prog 1900 & 1901
Written by John Wagner, Dan Abnett, Rob Williams, Pat Mills, Ian Edgington
Art by Carlos Ezquerra, Richard Elson, Abigail Ryder, Michael Dowling, John Higgins, D’Israeli
TV fans often defend their favourite shows with assurances that “it gets better.” It’s a given, at least in North America, that shows take time to truly find their footing. British television, however, is understood to be a place where the writer rules, and is thus free to craft more satisfying, finite stories untainted by corporate committee-think.
That’s not so much the case with British comics icon Judge Dredd, who debuted nearly 40 years ago in the second issue (or rather, “prog”) of 2000 Ad. Prog 1900 (on shelves this week) and next week’s 1901 feature a multi-part Dredd story, “Block Judge”, by the founding creative team of John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. So, the creative continuity is there, but the character hasn’t stayed particularly fresh.

Images from an abandoned Nemesis the Warlock pilot have been revealed.
Comics creator Tony Luke has revealed a look at the making of the 1987 12-minute stop-motion pilot based on the 2000 Ad property (via Down the Tubes).
The show - based on Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill's classic strip - was never picked up, and the models of Nemesis, Ro-Jaws, Torquemada, Satanus and the Blitzspear no longer exist.
"They're all long-disintegrated, I'm afraid," said Luke. "We couldn't secure the finance for a full series so everything was left to rot."
Nemesis centres around the titular alien and his battle against the totalitarian forces of the xenophobic human warlord Torquemada.
The images show ABC Warriors character Ro-Jaws, Nemesis and his ship the Blitzspear.
Nemesis the Warlock ran in 2000 Ad from 1980-1999.

It’s fair to say that Mike Fallon is a character you should not like. He’s superficial, arrogant, materialistic and a killer. A creation of Pat Mills and Tony Skinner with artwork by Howard Chaykin, Martin Emond, Duke Mighten and John Earsmus, The Complete Accident Man introduces you to the world of the Mike Fallon, and then lets you decide on just what you think of the assassin.
Mike Fallon is a creep, there is no doubt about it. He likes to make sure you realise that he is emotionless and doesn’t care about anything but making money. The fact is though as you read through the pages of The Complete Accident Man you’ll find that this is a man of principles and a man who does care, though he hates it. Killing for a profit he hates when he has to do a job for free,...

British comics illustrator Mark Simpson, aka 'Jock', noted for his work with writer Andy Diggle on the comic books "2000 Ad" and "The Losers", has posted some new 'Judge Dredd' concept designs for the developing "Judge Dredd' feature from DNA Films and Fox Searchlight.
Producer is Allon "28 Weeks Later" Reich from a screenplay by Alex Garland.
First published in 1977, created by writer John Wagner, artist Carlos Ezquerra and editor Pat Mills, 'Judge Dredd' debuted in Brit sci fi anthology "2000 Ad", leading to numerous comic book spin-offs.
Inspired by Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry", Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and execute criminals on the spot.
