Netflix’s word-of-mouth hit “Bird Box” makes a definitive choice not to show the monsters at the center of the film’s plot. The script, written by “Arrival” scribe Eric Heisserer, is adapted from Josh Malerman’s novel and takes place in a world where an unseen entity forces people who look at it to see their worst fear and kill themselves. Heisserer previously let it slip the film had shot and cut a scene where one monster is depicted on screen, and now the film’s special effects artist, Andy Bergholtz, has given everyone a chance to see the monster in the flesh.

The internet just can’t stop buzzing about Bird Box, Susanne Bier’s adaptation of Josh Malerman’s gripping novel. In case you haven’t seen it yet, it tells a post-apocalyptic story of a woman fighting to survive “after an ominous unseen presence drives most of society to suicide.” Though it’s far from perfect, it’s a well-made, thrilling watch that also boasts some excellent performances.

In fact, not only does it not reveal it on screen, but the film also never explains exactly where it came from or what it wants with planet Earth.
Thankfully, then, some concept art from the pre-production stage has surfaced online today (following on from a few shots that popped up over...
