Writer Richard Matheson, celebrated for writing classic sci-fi/horror novels such as I Am Legend and providing iconic moments of TV and film, has passed away at the age of 87.
The Twilight Zone scribe influenced a huge number of fellow writers and filmmakers, including Stephen King, George A Romero and Anne Rice.
Many writers and directors have now taken to social media to praise the influence and legacy of the American novelist.
I never knew Richard Matheson, so have no personal anecdotes. But he was a giant, and You Know His Stories, even if you think you don't.

Interview James Hunt 18 Jun 2013 - 07:00
James chats to directing legend Dirk Maggs about Hitchhiker's, superheroes, Neverwhere, sci-fi, and making radio sound sexy, big, and raw...
As a radio writer and director, Dirk Maggs' body of work is about as impressive as it gets. As well as being hand-selected by Douglas Adams to continue the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series, he's also responsible for this year's smash-hit adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and the Hitchiker's Live touring stage show. James managed to catch up with him for a chat about life, the universe, and everything geeky.
So last year you did the Hitchhiker's Live tour, which reunited the radio cast on stage and had people like Stephen Fry and Neil Gaiman guesting as the voice of the book. And clearly, it was a great success, because as well as releasing the live recording, you're doing another run this year,...

The "Doctor Who" community lost a treasured part of the long-running series' history yesterday with the death of actress Elisabeth Sladen.
Sladen portrayed Sarah-Jane Smith during the 1973-1976 seasons of the series, and later returned as the popular character during the modern series, eventually spinning off into her own series, "The Sarah-Jane Adventures." There's been no shortage of fond memories of Sladen and Sarah-Jane Smith shared online over the last 24 hours — including a touching farewell from her former "Doctor Who" co-star Tom Baker that accompanied this classic BBC photo:
According to TVLine, a spokesperson for BBC America indicated that Sladen’s passing will be acknowledged during this Saturday's "Doctor Who" premiere at 9 Pm Eastern.
"She can't be dead. But she is: she died yesterday morning. Cancer. I had no idea she was ill; she was so private, never wanted any fuss, and now, gone," wrote Baker on his official website.
