U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has released a first look image of its new comedy series, “Big Mood” (working title), produced by Fremantle‘s Dancing Ledge Productions. The six-part series explores the intricacies of female friendship when confronted with the complexities of serious mental illness.
Starring in the show are Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West. Joining the ensemble cast are Niamh Cusack, Eamon Farren, Luke Fetherston, Kate Fleetwood, Rob Gilbert, Rebecca Lowman, Sally Phillips, Ukweli Roach, and Amalia Vitale. The cast also includes Olu Adaeze, Max Bennett, Skylar Betteridge, David Bedella, Tim Downie, Ron Donachie, Sarah Durham, Lara Grace Ilori, Neil Edmond, Amy Gledhill, Maddie Grace Jepson, Tom Rhys Harries, Layla-Belle Matthews, Simon Meacock, David Mumeni, David Newman, Freya Parker, Shuna Snow, Sid Sagar, Stephen Sobal, Lottie Tolhurst, Isobel Thom and Robin Weaver.

Life is imitating art for leading man Raza Jaffrey, as Chicago producer, Barry Weissler spotted him in the new Steven Spielberg TV series Smash, and immediately offered him the role of Billy Flynn in the West End production of the musical. He just began his run in Chicago at the Garrick Theatre and will continue through July 14, playing the role between David Bedella, and Olympian Robin Cousins, who joins on 17 July.

David Bedella is an award winning Broadway and West End star, who won the 2004 Best Actor Olivier for his role as the Devil in Jerry Springer the Opera. He was invited to reprise the role at Carnegie Hall in January 2008; followed by an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in Chess in Concert, co-starring with Josh Groban and Idina Menzel. He is well known in the UK for the role of Dr Carlos Fashola in the BBC TV drama Holby City and for his portrayal of Frank-n-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show.

LONDON -- The scatological and obscenity filled Jerry Springer - The Opera won four honors including best new musical in the Society of London Theatre's 28th Laurence Olivier awards presented at the Park Lane Hilton on Sunday. Based on Jerry Springer's notorious television talk show, the production has music by Richard Thomas and book and lyrics by Thomas and Stewart Lee. It also landed awards for David Bedella as best actor in a musical; for the chorus of the show as best supporting performance in a musical; and for Mike Walker, best sound. The Springer production was developed at the National Theatre and is now running at the Cambridge Theatre through January 2005. Maria Friedman was named best actress in a musical for Ragtime. Matthew Kelly won as best actor for Of Mice and Men and Eileen Atkins was named best actress for Honour. The prize for best new play went to The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh, another National Theatre production. Kevin Spacey presented a lifetime achievement award to six-time Olivier Award-winner Judi Dench for outstanding contribution to British theatre. Her first prize as best actress was for Macbeth in 1977 and her most recent was for A Little Night Magic in 1996.
