When Daily Dead contributor Ben Larned saw it at the Boston Underground Film Festival, he called Dave Made a Maze a "playful, darkly inventive look into the creative mind" in his review, and Gravitas Ventures' official trailer for the film certainly highlights its humor and the strangely unsettling vibe ahead of its August release.
Synopsis: "An unaccomplished and frustrated artist builds a cardboard box fort in his living room and winds up trapped with a gang of oddball explorers in a fantasy world of his own creation, threatened by booby traps and a bloodthirsty Minotaur."
Directed by Bill Watterson, Dave Made a Maze stars Nick Thune, Meera Rohit Kumbhani, James Urbaniak, John Morrison, Kirsten Vangsness, Stephanie Allynne, and Adam Busch. Gravitas Ventures will release the movie in select theaters on August 18th.

Coming soon to a VOD platform or Walmart near you is Boone The Bounty Hunter , and it’s one you definitely should be checking out. You don’t even need to be like me, a person who loves movies starring wrestlers and good old 90s-style action, to have a good time watching it.
John Hennigan is our star / producer / co-writer. After graduating from college with a film degree, he wrestled for WWE under the names Johnny Nitro and John Morrison, and he was pretty good at it; he now works for Aaa (a Mexico-based promotion) and Lucha Underground (the MTV wrestling show). But he’s always had a passion for the same sorts of movies I love – 80s / 90s comic action, kung fu, chase movies – and given the chance, he’s made this.
He plays Boone, a TV bounty hunter – his resemblance to any famous TV...

The El Rey Network television show, Lucha Underground, has debuted on Netflix. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available for streaming with more seasons to potentially come in the future. Current episodes of the show are still on the El Rey Network.
The show is a different take on wrestling, taking it from a pseudo-sports show and turning it into a full fledged male soap opera or telenovella. There is plenty of action in the ring with some great talent like former WWE star John Morrison who goes by the name Johnny Mundo as well as indie superstar Richochet, who goes by the name Prince Puma. Former WWE color commentator Matt Striker does the play by play of the show with Vampiro offering color commentary.
It can't be stressed enough how different this show is. While it does include wrestling, and some rather top notch wrestling at that, the show is focused...

5 Star Wrestling dropped its name in the hat of UK wrestling promotions that are attempting to shake things up and make the British wrestling scene a bigger deal than it has been in many years. Airing a special show on Spike, with rumours of it going on to further regular shows in the future, 5 Star Wrestling presented us with Dominant Wresting: Dundee, a program that was promoted with the image of Scotland’s own Drew Galloway (formerly WWE’s Drew McIntyre) at the forefront. It was interesting and exciting to see a new special show in the UK, especially with the coverage to the ITV Wrestling Special on New Years Eve and the WWE produced UK Title Tournament from Blackpool a few weeks ago. Many eyes are on the UK right now when it comes to professional wrestling and this was another opportunity.

The latest episode of Spbd is finally here. Who trained their sidekick better, Batman or Captain America? With this appearing to be the Winter Soldier from the comics and not the McU, Bucky doesn't have any super strength, just his metal arm, superior marksmanship and honed tactical analysis. Will that be enough to take down someone who regularly puts down Gotham's toughest metahumans without breaking a sweat? Cheesy dialogue aside, the fight choreography is absolutely Insane and easily better than anything you'll see on the superhero shows on ABC or The CW. Former WWE superstar John Morrison, who previously starred in the Spbd episode - Casey Jones vs Kick-Ass Casey, plays Barnes. Director Aaron Schoenke plays reprises his usual role as BitS' Nightwing. The next episode will feature Wonder Woman vs Wolverine so be sure to vote for who you would think would win that match-up and help prevent the...

I’ve often said that I find the history WWE Blu-Ray releases the best, so when one was released celebrating the Us Championship I was obviously looking forward to it. Although we often see people like John Cena dominating the belt these days it has one of the more interesting histories of any of the belts. WWE – The Us Championship: A Legacy of Greatness reveals just how varied this history is.
The fact that WWE now has a huge library of footage from all kinds of wrestling federations from the past allows them to pull out some real gems. These include matches that aren’t even complete, and don’t feature commentary. This is the case of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat with Andre the Giant as guest referee. Filmed in 1978 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling it is a nice addition for the history loving wrestling fan, especially those who love Andre.

Fans that have grown weary of WWE’s stale and largely paint-by-numbers product seem to have migrated toward other wrestling shows to get their fix.
The in-house Nxt has been an obvious alternative, fusing elements of Ring of Honor and Evolve with old-school territorial wrestling into a fine cultural stew. Elsewhere on Wednesday nights, there exists another wrestling alternative, this one more outworldly.
Lucha Underground, the brainchild of reality TV magnate Mark Burnett and splat-tastic film guru Robert Rodriguez, airs on Rodriguez’s El Rey Network, blending high-risk wrestling, outlandish characters, and surreal storylines in a way that gives it the feel of a comic book come to life.
Recognizable names such as Johnny Mundo (John Morrison), Rey Mysterio, and Alberto Del Rio (prior to his WWE return) have flocked to the Los Angeles-based company, which has also been a haven for eclectic, colorfully-masked characters such as the immovable Mil Muertes,...

5 Star Wrestling & Ringside Perspective
5 Star Wrestling may be a brand new promotion, but its enviable line-up would have impressed a lot of established names in the business. A quartet of leading stars (Aj Styles, Rey Mysterio, John Morrison, and current Roh Champion Jey Lethal) topped the bill – but they only told half the story.
The rest of the roster consisted of some of Britain’s top indie names, including former Tna Champion (and current Gfw Global Champion) Magnus, Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Best Technical Wrestler of 2014 Zack Sabre Jr., and the incomparable Grado.
We were also fortunate enough to secure interviews with a cluster of big names, including Styles, Morrison, Colt Cabana, and even Grado – all of which should be on our official YouTube channel in the very near future. In fact you can watch the Aj Styles interview at the very end of this article…

When Johnny Mundo joined Lucha Underground, it renewed his passion for professional wrestling. The exciting performer gained worldwide notoriety during his run as John Morrison in WWE. He left the organization to broaden his resume with new projects that would help him flex his creative muscle. Lucha Underground has given him the opportunity to do just that. The series generated buzz within the industry as the show’s first season began to air on El Rey Network in 2014. Responding to the allegations made against her, Melina took to Twitter to defend herself;
“I love wrestling, but I never thought I’d see this much crazy from people where they’d start rumors & such, long after I’ve stopped wrestling. During my career, All I wanted was to be around people that loved what I loved and make magic with them. I’m not even in wrestling anymore and people still keep fabricating stories of this evil, villain of a woman. It’s awesome to think my onscreen character was that convincing, but in actuality… That’s just crazy!”

For all that’s wrong with WWE today, it’s impossible to discount the sheer amount of talent on the roster – former independent stars like Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Cesaro, and Kevin Owens dominate the company’s programming, Brock Lesnar is a revelation every time he competes, and John Cena had arguably the best year of his career in 2015.
When it comes to the overall capabilities of their superstars, WWE is in fine shape.
And yet, the company is completely floundering. Their television output is worse than it’s been in a generation, and that’s reflected week by week in Raw’s ratings. Fortunately for WWE, the company has stumbled upon a business model where TV ratings and pay-per-view buyrates matter a lot less than WWE Network subscriber numbers and stock prices, but it’s only a matter of time before the complete ineptitude with which things...

Extreme Championship Wrestling may have only lasted for nine years, but it left a huge mark on the wrestling landscape. Seen as a cooler, more contemporary alternative to WWE and WCW, the company gained a small, but loyal, fanbase that was so devoted that not only did they help keep the company in business, but they practically became part of the show. Seeking to capitalize on this mania, WWE and WCW adopted some of Ecw’s signature flourishes (sex and violence, primarily), ushering in the wrestling boom of the late 1990s and eventually making WWE a billion-dollar company.
It wasn’t just angles that WWE and WCW took – many future superstars spent time in Ecw until the big leagues came calling. Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, Mick Foley, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and more all spent time in Ecw, and they’ve all been quick to credit their experiences...

The television ratings for WWE Tough Enough are down this season from where they were at in 2011 and according to the Wrestling Observer, the belief from people at USA Network is that wrestling’s popularity is cycling downward.
Considering that the ratings for Monday night Raw are down this year as well, that seems to be a fair assessment by the network that airs Raw, Tough Enough and will also air Smackdown in January 2016.
This Tuesday’s edition of Tough Enough was at 1.22 million viewers, which is up 17% from the previous week. Those numbers pale in comparison to the 2011 season average of 2.4 million viewers when Steve Austin was the host and the format of the show was different.

Last week we found out that Dolph Ziggler’s WWE contract is set to expire soon. Ziggler, who has not been utilized as a main event star in a while, is reportedly mulling over leaving the biggest company in wrestling for pastures new.
Dolph obviously has the talent. He can put on great matches with almost anyone. The 2014 Survivor Series was one of the last real chances that he was given to steal a major show and the reaction he received was phenomenal. Down 3 on 1 against Team Authority he mounted a memorable comeback (with slight help from Sting) that could have vaulted him back into a major program. It didn’t.
Dolph should be frustrated with his spot in the company right now and like his friend John Morrison before him, the grass could look greener on the other side. Outside of WWE, Ziggler would create himself a ton...

Some weeks Raw makes you want to go back to simpler times, like 1994. We may have had to witness Jeff Jarrett defeating Virgil on the show then, but we only had to sit through it once. We didn’t watch it three times in three weeks like Neville and Bo Dallas with the same outcome every time, or see Randy Orton and Sheamus battling for the millionth time, or Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston fighting for the eight millionth time, or struggling through three Roman Reigns’ matches in one night. I would take round two of Jarrett and Virgil in 2015 if it meant even a small break from this monotony.
This week’s biggest liar award goes to Michael Cole, who claimed to have never seen anyone jump from top of the Elimination Chamber cage. He must have forgot that John Morrison did it once…in a match that he was announcing.

Money in the Bank ladder matches are the most chaotic and damaging multi-person affairs we see in WWE. And with Elimination Chamber recently passed on the WWE Network, it’s almost time again to crown the new ‘Mr. Money in the Bank.’
This year, dangling high above the ring will be a contract guaranteeing a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at any place, at any time over the next calendar year. Seth Rollins used his chance after winning last year so effectively at WrestleMania, but now opportunity knocks for Roman Reigns, Kane, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus and Neville to follow in his footsteps.
But with the briefcase hanging aloft, it means ladders – and heights – are involved. While Superstars’ main intention is to scale to the top and grab the contract, there’s going to be plenty of thrills, spills, bumps and shocks along the way.

The Royal Rumble match is always celebrated because there are so many different facets of the match that you can talk about. There are countless stats that you can tie into the match, there are many stories that can be built throughout the course of the match, and finally there is the order that the wrestlers come in at starting from #1 to #30. Since 2008, it seems that the WWE has decided to put an emphasis on giving the WWE Universe a great #1 v. #2 matchup as you see below:
2008 – Undertaker (#1) v. Shawn Michaels (#2)
2009 – Rey Mysterio (#1) v. John Morrison (#2)
2010 – Dolph Ziggler (#1) v. Evan Bourne (#2)
2011 – Cm Punk (#1) v. Daniel Bryan (#2)
2012 – The Miz (#1) v. Alex Riley (#2)
2013 – Dolph Ziggler (#1) v. Chris Jericho (#2)
2014 – Cm Punk (#1) v. Seth Rollins (#2)

When a wrestler makes his debut in the WWE, they tend to take a while – a couple of years at least – to get to the level where they’re challenging for the top titles.
Moreover, even when they do reach that level, it’s generally because they’ve proven themselves to be great in-ring performers, technically proficient and hard working.
A lot of eventual big stars started out as midcarders.
Chris Jericho lost his first WWE match to Road Dogg and went on to feud with Chyna over the Intercontinental title. Rey Mysterio had to start off in the lightweight divisions of the WWE. Eddie Guerrero had to feud with the likes of Essa Rios for the European title before he became a big player. Michael Kingston is a lifelong comic book and wrestling fan. In the past, various writers have attempted to create comics that mixed the two genres, but failed in spectacular fashion. In Headlocked: The Last Territory, though, Kingston creates a realistic hero in Mike Hartman who we follow on a journey in the unforgiving business. Filled with emotion and a clear passion from its writer, Headlocked is the most realistic portrayal of wrestling in the graphic novel form to date.
For his upcoming sequel Headlocked: The Last Territory Vol. 2, we follow the continuation of Hartman’s story. Kingston has taken to Kickstarter once more to raise the funds necessary to produce the book. Teaming up with him again is wrestling legend Jerry Lawler who will be providing the cover artwork. Also joining on the project in the role of guest creators are Booker T, Rob Van Dam, A.J. Styles, John Morrison,...

Mike Mizanin, better known as The Miz, has been a part of World Wrestling Entertainment since he was a part of WWE Tough Enough in late 2004. Even though Daniel Puder won the competition, The Miz finished in second place and made enough of an impact that he was offered a developmental contract.
The Miz has been a regular on WWE TV since 2006 after starting out as the host of Smackdown and also a run as the host of the Diva Search as well. Eventually he got a break as a wrestler. He had some interesting times in his career as part of an entertaining tag team with John Morrison and he’s held the Us & Ic Title on multiple occasions. His two biggest accomplishments have been his Money in the Bank briefcase win in 2010, which led to capturing his first and only WWE Championship in November 2010.

As a horror fan I’ve always liked the wrestlers with the darker sides. The Undertaker and Kane are two wrestlers who have had a certain mystique and managed to get away with the more silly story lines featuring the supernatural. For the most part though their destructive force has been more of an importance to their fans. WWE: Brothers of Destruction provides a few of their best matches in their time as a tag team.
WWE fans know that the relationship between Kane and Undertaker has been a strained one, especially based on the fact that they have had one of the best rivalries that the WWE managed to create. Working as a team though in the years when Undertaker was using his American Badass gimmick they were a very good tag team, and they came at a time when the WWE were riding on a high when it came to that division.

When a wrestler gets injured in WWE, the old saying “the show must go on” comes into play. Many times a wrestler will be expected to get on with the job, suck up the pain and put forth the best match possible. Such is the talent of some wrestlers, they still actually manage to put on a first rate match-up even when injured. There’s been many examples of this over the years, top stars who were injured but unwilling to take time off. They end up working through the pain and pulling off unlikely classics.
We’ve witnessed men going into matches barely able to walk, yet still somehow producing the goods. Then you have the guys who get injured mid-match, they refuse to give up and somehow steal the show. Here we take a look at 10 wrestlers who had great matches when injured.

Super Power Beat Down is becoming a highly anticipated video series in the geek community. With each new installment, more and more nerd debates erupt about who won, who lost and who Bat in the Sun should use in their next Spbd entry. Following Punisher vs Red Hood, next up is Casey Jones vs Kick-Ass. No super powers here, just good ol' fashioned fisticuffs. Who do you think will win this one? Former WWE superstar John Morrison plays Casey Jones. Actor Shaun Piccinino plays Kick-Ass. The new video should premiere sometime in September on Machinima. The history of WWE has given us so many incredible moments over the years involving wrestling putting their bodies on the line to entertain us. While we may remember the ones like Mankind falling off a cage as the best bump of all time, what about when wrestlers put their body on the line when they’re on offense? It happens all the time.
We have seen guys hitting finishing moves of 15 foot high ladders, off the top of cages, from the ring post to the announce table and off various parts of the staging area too. Guys are willing to put their bodies on the line simply because they want to create those memorable moments that WWE fans will love forever.
Today’s focus will be on those moments when wrestlers put their body on the line to deliver a huge move to an opponent. These are not bumps.

In May, WWE announced the return of the hit show Tough Enough as a WWE Network exclusive. Tough Enough initially aired four seasons from 2001 to 2004 on MTV and Upn, exclusively. It returned for a fifth season on the USA Network in 2011 and despite being a ratings success, it wasn’t renewed for another season. With WWE looking for more exclusive content to air on the WWE Network, officials probably saw this as the perfect opportunity to bring back the show that launched the careers of The Miz, John Morrison and others.
Tough Enough’s fifth season was more reality-based than Nxt (when it was still a competition) ever was, giving viewers an inside look at what aspiring Superstars had to go through in order to secure a contract with the company. What sold many viewers on the show was its coaches. The cast consisted of Bill DeMott, Booker T,...

Earlier this week, WWE announced that Tough Enough would be returning on WWE Network. While no date was given, it’s likely being planned as we speak if they were willing to mention during their latest conference call.
There have been five seasons of Tough Enough in WWE history starting in 2001. Notable names from that season included Maven, Nidia, Chris Nowinski and Josh Mathews, who is still with WWE as an announcer. The first three seasons aired on MTV. For the 4th season, they had a different format because they had the competitors traveling to Smackdown every week to compete in challenges that were aired during the show.
The most recent season of Tough Enough took place in 2011 with Andy Leavine chosen as the winner. A lot of fans didn’t like the choice because Leavine didn’t appear to be as talented as the likes of Luke Robinson...

WWE have been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism in the past few weeks even though it is louder than normal, some fans have been giving the company stick ever since it changed its rating from TV-14 to a PG rating back in 2008. While there are reasons for genuine complaints at WWE for “watering down” its product to change its target audience, the PG rated product has still produced plenty of good moments.

Promos have been an essential part of professional wrestling. If the actual wrestling is the steak, the promos and interviews add much-needed sizzle and put the “entertainment” in “sports entertainment.” They are what separates professional wrestling from competitive sports. That’s why being able to cut a good promo is so important developing “rasslers” into superstars. A good promo can give the fans a glimpse into the character of a wrestler, and possibly launch a career into superstardom. Just look at what amazing promos did for Steve Austin and Cm Punk. They were good wrestlers with cult followings, but all it took was a single great promo to bring them to that next level where they were given opportunities to reign at the top of the company. Heck, even John Cena got his start by his amazing promos in his rapper persona.
There’s a serious art to delivering a great promo.

Wedding bells are in the air for WWE superstar Mike "The Miz" Mizanin and his new bride, former WWE diva Maryse Ouellet. The couple tied the knot earlier in the week during a picturesque ceremony in the Bahamas.
Ouellet confirmed the news with a photo of her engagement ring and wedding band, both sporting some very nice-looking diamonds. "Officially Mrs. Mizanin," she writes. TMZ has photos from the ceremony, and the couple couldn't look any happier.
Among those in attendance were fellow WWE superstars Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder, along with WWE alums John Hennigan (John Morrison) and Barbie Blank (Kelly Kelly). This is the first marriage for both Ouellet and Mizanin.

On November 17th, 2002, at Madison Square Garden, the WWE introduced one of the most sadistic and destructive structures seen in Sports Entertainment. Consisting of 2 miles of steel chain, the Elimination Chamber was like no other match concept that anyone had seen before.
Combining elements of Hell in a Cell, The Royal Rumble and War Games, the Elimination Chamber soon established itself as the most destructive match on the WWE calendar. The match has settled issues such as World Championships, Number One Contenderships, and even set up the first ever Money in the Bank cash in over the course of it’s existence.
In the eleven and a half years of the Elimination Chamber, there have been many moments that have gone down in WWE folklore. And with that in mind, here are my top ten Elimination Chamber Moments.

It’s been a pretty terrible couple of weeks for WWE, but something good is on the way, and I’m not talking about Wrestlemania. I’m talking about the Elimination Chamber Pay Per View, one of the more underrated Pay Per Views of the entire WWE schedule.
Sandwiched between the two biggest shows of the year (Mania and the Royal Rumble), the Chamber doesn’t seem to get a lot of love. But at the time of year when WWE’s booking is at its strongest, we get great matches featuring (usually) six of the top superstars on each brand. So rather than dwell on the negative, I’m going to channel my inner optimist and make myself feel better by counting down the 10 best Elimination Chamber matches of all time.

The wrestling business has seen thousands of people walk into WWE and leave an impact on wrestling fans that we will never forget. Some people have careers in the ring that last over 30 years like a Ric Flair. Others have had really short runs like…The Boogeyman? Okay so we’re not going to focus on a guy like him in this column.
What this column is about is looking at WWE performers that called it quits before the age of 40. Why 40? Because a lot of wrestlers perform well into their 40s. If you start in your early 20s like a lot of them do then you’re talking about a 20+ year career in the wrestling business.
For this one, we’re going to look at five women and five men that left an impact in WWE that called it a career for one reason or another.

The match debuted at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, quickly becoming a WrestleMania tradition and in 2010 proved so popular that it was given its own annual PPV event. Several top Superstars have been Money in the Bank winners including John Cena, Kane, Edge, Cm Punk (twice!), Rob Van Dam and many more. 11 of the first 12 winners have used the match as a springboard to winning a championship, and several times the match has helped a Superstar who has never win a World Championship break through to claim their first. Much like the Royal Rumble Match, the Money in the Bank match represents a golden opportunity for a Superstar to achieve immortality, and its entire lineage is presented here.
It is nice to see this match receive its own box-set release. The “Money in the Bank” concept...

WWE Superstar Collection: John Cena
It isn’t exactly uncommon to come across wrestling fans that don’t enjoy John Cena matches, and I would go under that description also for the most-part, but I still find a lot of interesting things about the matches that the guy has. He’s the face of WWE and the biggest wrestling star of the last decade, so suffice to say he has had some hot, high-profile feuds with some of the best in the business in the last ten years.
This new release features a collection of John Cena matches. The match choices are seemingly random and would be a perfect introduction to a new fan of the WWE product and John Cena on the whole, while also being a nice little compilation to add to the wrestling DVD collector’s library of releases.

Every wrestler in the world thinks they’re ‘The Guy” but there’s only so many spots at the top. Most of the guys on this list are not only underrated and under appreciated but they are/were under utilized as well. All of these guys held a title at one time or another but did they ever hold The title? No. Not one man on this list ever became the WWE or WCW World Heavyweight Champion and that’s a damn shame.
All of the wrestlers on this list display one or more of the main characteristics that make up an elite superstar. Whether it be power, charisma, ring presence or just being a great worker, all of these guys had/have it and then some. Limiting this list to just 10 was an impossible feat but these are the guys I feel deserve it the most.
Without further ado,...

Ever since the beginning of Professional Wrestling, there have been title belts. Much like every professional, there has to be a goal, something to strive for, something to aim for. Footballers have trophies, cricket players have a small urn, chef’s have stars, actors have Oscars and musicians have gold records and Grammy’s. Pro wrestlers have title belts.
The notion of a title belt may seem unusual to those that don’t watch any kind of combat sport, like Mma, boxing or wrestling, but it’s what we know as the ultimate goal. If we’re all being honest with ourselves, we all had a replica of a title belt growing up, I know I personally had many, and I’m very sure most, if not every person reading this had at least one as well.
This list takes titles from the 4 major pro wrestling promotions, 2 of which are no longer in existence,...

In the second part of my WWE comeback articles, I’m going to talk about the successful returns to the WWE. This is when a superstar returns after a long break and manages to achieve even more popularity than when they were originally in the company.
Bringing back superstars is often an expensive risk for the WWE, however in these cases the gamble pays off.
These are five of my favorite successful returns to the WWE. Cast your eyes on these comeback kings.
5. Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy is among the most popular WWE superstars of all time. What is unique about Jeff is that he is liked by all demographics, the women love him, the men love him and the kids love him too. Jeff made his mark in the WWE with death defying stunts in TLC matches with his brother Matt Hardy. The Hardy Boyz would win the tag...
