Books are being pulled from the library shelves of an Iowa school district following new legislation from Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, which purports to protect children from obscene material, The Gazette reports.
The new legislation, Senate File 496, prohibits “instruction related to gender identity and sexual orientation in school districts, charter schools and innovation zone schools in kindergarten through grade six.” It requires that every book available to students be “age appropriate” and free of any “descriptions or visual depictions of a sex act.”

NYC’s messiest Instagram account is typing its “XOXOs” for the last time. “Gossip Girl,” the HBO Max series and sequel to the CW hit of the same name, has been canceled, the streamer announced Thursday. The news comes in the middle of the show’s Season 2 run, which began on December 1 and will conclude January 26.
In a tweet Thursday, showrunner and executive producer Joshua Safran stated he intends to shop “Gossip Girl” to other outlets.
“We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs,” Safran wrote in his tweet.
The series, which premiered in July 2021 to considerable hype, is a continuation of the original 2007 series of the same name created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Based on the young adult series by Cecily von Ziegesar,...

Hey, Upper Eastsiders: HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” has been canceled, and its series finale will drop on the streamer Jan. 26.
Season 1 premiered in July of 2021, and though it received a critics’ score of 38 on Rotten Tomatoes, Variety‘s Caroline Framke praised it, writing the show “does immediately address one issue that plagued the previous ‘Gossip Girl’ by flipping it on its head in a way that energizes the new one. This time, there will be no guessing games as to who Gossip Girl might be — at least not for the audience.” Season 2 jumped higher on Rotten Tomatoes, but based on fewer reviews.
“We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran, and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard,” HBO Max said in a statement. “Although we are not moving forward with...

HBO Max’s Gossip Girl season two is welcoming back original cast member Michelle Trachtenberg, reprising her role as Georgina Sparks. And the first three official photos from the upcoming second season even includes one showing Michelle as Georgina!
In an interview with Teen Vogue, showrunner Joshua Safran explained what Trachtenberg’s Georgina will add to the mix.
“What she brought to the original series was anarchy,” stated Safron. “She’s an anarchist. She’ll just do anything and just for any reason she decides. So we brought that energy to the first show, and then we brought that energy back to this one. She’s the same, and that’s what I think is so fun, that Michelle is older, we’re all older, Georgina is older yet has the exact same energy. She’s out of time.

The second season of HBO Max's reboot of Gossip Girl has been in production for a while now, and the latest tease hints at a big comeback.
The social media accounts for the series shared a video of a brunette woman sitting in an empty theater, clearly enjoying what is happening on stage.
“It only takes one spark to start a fire,” the video teases.
In the caption, the message continues: “And I have a feeling that this city is about to burn.”
The video quality is not great, which is probably intentional to keep fans guessing the mystery person's identity.

Given the "spark" and the fact that this person is going to upend the lives of the Upper East Siders, it certainly sounds like Georgina Sparks is coming back into the fold.

If you've been counting down the days until the return of Gossip Girl, we have some good news.
HBO Max is switching up the rollout strategy for the second half of Gossip Girl (2021) Season 1, which means we will be getting the episodes sooner.
The series was initially set to return with the seventh episode of the season on Thursday, November 25, but the streamer will now have episodes 7, 8, and 9 available to stream.
The season will wrap the following week with another three episodes available to binge-watch.
Fans were less than impressed with the midseason hiatus halfway through the freshman season, so this makes up for it, we guess.
We liked watching week-to-week because it allowed us to dissect every single moment of the reboot.
We'll be running three reviews on Thursday so we can delve deep into the shenanigans of these characters we've grown to love throughout the season.

HBO Max has renewed the “Gossip Girl” revival for a second season, proclaiming “record viewership over its first weekend on the platform.” The 12-episode first season has been broken up into two parts, and its second six episodes will roll out in November. Using the vague language typical of streaming services, HBO Max called “Gossip Girl” its “best launch for a Max Original Drama series this year” in the renewal announcement.
The renewal also touted “Gossip Girl” as a social media phenomenon: “The series had 15 billion total social impressions at launch and the series gained around 5.2 billion impressions from content inspired by the series on TikTok.”
A representative from HBO Max said Thursday that the number of episodes for Season 2, as well as when production will begin are still to be announced.

HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” reboot launches Thursday and you know you love it. How do we know you already XoXo the updated take on The CW teen series without having seen it? Well, because if you were a fan of the original show and the drama of young Upper East Siders Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) and Brooklynites Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) and Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) attending elite Manhattan prep schools, then you’re probably going to enjoy watching this new generation fill their designer shoes in very familiar — but not identical — ways.

By the time Joshua Safran was pitching the “Gossip Girl” revival to HBO Max in May 2019, he knew exactly what he wanted the new incarnation to be. Based on Cecily von Ziegesar’s young adult books, and created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the original show ran on The CW from 2007 to 2012 and was a zeitgeist success, creating stars of Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, and cementing “xoxo” as a shady signoff forevermore. Safran had risen in the writers’ room to become one of its executive producers, and Schwartz and Savage approached him about imagining a hook for a revival.
The new “Gossip Girl” would be different from the first show in both small and profound ways, adapting to reflect, as Safran puts it, “a more diverse universe,” and “to tell more queer stories.” But what would cause the biggest shift in the show’s worldview, he says, was...

As we anxiously await the Gossip Girl reboot coming to HBO Max, we have plenty of time to reflect on the original Gossip Girl - no, not the 2000s show starring Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, the book series written by Cecily Von Ziegesar. This YA book series is what the first show was based on, although it features some notable differences. One main question you might have: who was Gossip Girl in the books? As someone who devoured this book series in the early aughts, consider me your resident Gg expert. Keep reading for the 4-1-1 (note: spoiler alerts ahead).

Listen to Bell return in the Gossip Girl trailer below…

Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite has returned. HBO Max has finally debuted the first footage from its “Gossip Girl” revival.
Gone are the tights and headbands of yesteryear, the class of 2021 has a whole new vibe. Developed by showrunner Joshua Safran (who previously worked as an executive producer and writer on the original series) the new iteration of this teen staple returns the audience to an updated Upper East Side of New York.
While plot details are scarce, we do know that the new version of “Gossip Girl” will take place “nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark.” The series also promises to explore how social media “and the landscape of New York itself” has changed in almost a decade. As for who awakened Gossip Girl and why, that remains to be seen, but fingers crossed for more voice-over dramatics.

In HBO's The Undoing, based on the book You Should Have Known, Grace and Jonathan send their son Henry to the very prestigious Reardon School in New York. Right off the bat in the first episode of the miniseries, without even catching a glimpse of the school, you know it's fancy, because Grace and Jonathan are discussing an upcoming fundraiser that sounds like it's perfectly designed for Manhattan's elite. So is Reardon a real school in New York City? Technically no, it's not, but it could easily be an amalgam of all the private schools the city has to offer.
The private school, which is called Rearden Academy in the book, comes with a hefty price tag. Grace mentions in episode one of the series that Henry's tuition is $50,000 a year, which is on par with New York prices. The Private School Review reported that for the 2020-2021 school year,...
