Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Supergirl two-parter series finale.
It’s all or nothing for Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers and her Super Friends in the final hours of the CW’s Supergirl.
Kicking off with “The Last Gauntlet,” Supergirl picks up right were the previous installment left off – with Esme (Mila Jones) in Lex (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) possession. A hostage in hand, the criminals-turned-lovers propose that Kara, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and the rest of the gang trade in their totems for the kid. Of course, this is before Lex and Nyxly realize that the Love totem, absorbed by Esme in the previous episode, is already looking for a new host.
J’onn (David Harewood), Kara, Alex and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) reflect on how they’ve put their loved ones in danger – grieving the recent death of William Dey (Staz Nair). They’re all...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Kara,” the series finale of “Supergirl.”
After six seasons of saving National City, “Supergirl” has come to a close — but not before Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), had to make a number of life-changing decisions.
With villains Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) in-fighting at the start of the Nov. 9 series finale, titled “Kara,” the people of Earth became increasingly despondent as the bad guys sucked out their life force. Kara realized her entire mission was noble, but flawed: “We don’t need to be heroes,” she explained to her Super friends. “We need to be partners.”
The next step was empowering people to become the heroes of their own lives, which Supergirl conveyed worldwide thanks to a power assist from Brainy (Jesse Rath). In addition to helping humanity, it also drained Lex and Nyxly’s power,...

The Girl of Steel's story is coming to a close.
The CW has dropped plot details for the double-episode series finale of Supergirl, and it sounds out of this world.
The first hour is called "The Last Gauntlet" and finds Supergirl and her friends trying to save a loved one from the clutches of Nyxly and Lex.
"In the penultimate buildup to the season finale, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the super friends take drastic action after a loved one is kidnapped by Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) and Lex (guest star Jon Cryer)," the logline teases.
"An unlikely ally steps in to help the team," it continues, but who could this mystery character be?
We have no clue, but wouldn't it be fun if we got to see Clark helping his cousin save the world one last time?
We can hope!
Then again, the logline for the finale includes Tyler Hoechlin's...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Supergirl Season 6 Episode 12 “Blind Spots.”] The September 21 hour of Supergirl very much is Kelly Olsen’s time to shine — and what better episode for Azie Tesfai to co-write (with J. Holtham)? As Kelly officially debuts as Guardian, she focuses on how the fallout of imp Nyxly’s (Peta Sergeant) attack has affected the community and makes sure the Super Friends understand how important it is to acknowledge their blind spots and see how much the Heights need someone to fight for them. That’s what she’s going to do both in and out of the mask. The episode ends with Kelly and Alex/Sentinel (Chyler Leigh), who admits she understands she won’t ever fully understand what her girlfriend goes through. Kelly likens it to a valve being released and she can’t control the emotions pouring out and just asks her to “let me be and ...

Mr. Mxyzptlk returns on “Supergirl” this week and yes, he will break out into song. It’s not another musical episode for the series, though. Thomas Lennon is showing off his pipes in a “Mxy in the Middle” solo — although he sure would have loved to sing with Supergirl herself.
First, let’s refresh on why he’s here to begin with. After unwittingly giving Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) her powers back, Kara (Melissa Benoist) is lured back to the Ormfell only to watch the imp destroy it while Kara is trapped in ice. As Nyxly so devilishly puts it, “You’re bound by magic now. And only magic can beat magic.” Luckily, Kara knows just the person to help her in this case.
Re-enter: Mr. Mxyzptlk. He has a rather…tumultuous history with Nyxly, but the good news is he can give the Super Friends the 4-1-1. And because he’s Mxy,...

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 4
To vanquish the Phantoms and escape the Phantom Zone, Supergirl motions toward horror with its body-snatching plot in National City and eerie quest over in the Phantom Zone. With the Prime Phantom still terrorizing National City and Kara and her father still trapped, the Super Friends had their hands full while still trying to come to terms with the emotional aspect of losing Kara, mostly by consuming Scotch or doughnuts.
In an early bout with phantoms, a seemingly defeated phantom coming from lying on the ground to standing up in one smooth movement was a particularly cool genre moment for the usually-light Supergirl. The final showdown with the mini-Phantom Zone on Earth has more horror beats, like when Brainy is taken and he claws his way from the shadows – his red eyes a sign he’s been...

"Let's make Earth great again!" Vertical Entertainment has released a new official Us trailer and a poster for the long-awaited, delayed-for-years sci-fi sequel Iron Sky: The Coming Race, which has been in the works since 2014. This film was released in Europe earlier in the year, and we posted two trailers back then for its initial debut. It's now opening in the Us in July, for those who still want to catch up with it. The plot is just as absurd as the first Iron Sky - the Nazis are back after lying dormant in a secret base on the Moon, now they're attacking with an army of ancient shapeshifting reptilians riding dinosaurs. Madness. Starring Julia Dietze, Götz Otto, Christopher Kirby, Tilo Brückner, Peta Sergeant, Stephanie Paul, and Udo Kier. This is one of those films that you know is going to be terrible, but you also just have to see it for yourself.

Mark Hartley's reimagining of cult '70s shocker Patrick hits UK DVD shelves today, 11 August, titled Evil Awakens. With this in mind, we recently cornered Hartley as he took a break in London to pick his brain about the film, his feature helming debut.
Until now, Mark has been most widely known for his directorial work on music videos and documentaries such as Not Quite Hollywood and Machete Maidens Unleashed. When quizzed about the circumstances that led to finally getting in the director's chair for a narrative feature film, he tells us, "Well, I had never ever planned, or had any ambition, to make documentaries."
He elaborates, "That kind of happened by accident... I had always intended to make narrative features, and it was just a very difficult process. My background is actually music videos – I’ve made like a hundred and fifty music videos in Australia prior to...

Former music video director Mark Hartley came to prominence, at least to me, in 2008 when his wonderful documentary Not Quite Hollywood, which detailed the “Ozploitation” genre, exploded on film blogs and movie sites across the globe. He then followed that up with another documentary, Machete Maidens Unleashed, a look at Filipino genre filmmaking, in 2010. I was fortunate enough to see that doc on the big screen at 2011′s Frightfest Glasgow and now, some three years later Hartley’s feature film debut Patrick: Evil Awakens, a loose remake of Richard Franklin’s seminal 1978 shocker, makes it’s UK debut on DVD.
It’s been some years since I’ve seen Franklin’s original film and it’s Italian lensed “sequel” Patrick Lives Again, but it’s not like anyone can actually forget...

Family is power. The original vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed, and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy, and hunger for power have torn "The Originals" apart.

Peta Sergeant joins "The Originals" tomorrow night, but maybe you already caught her over the weekend in her saucy nurse’s uniform in the remake of 1978’s Aussie cult classic Patrick.
It’s just now available on VOD (unleashed on Friday the 14th), and I do highly recommend it. I never did see the original – but I love the whole idea of a supposedly comatose patient (the titular Patrick, played by Jackson Gallagher) who’s actually sentient… and maybe even evil.
Deftly directed by Mark Hartley (who previously did the well-received doc on Australian horror films Not Quite Hollywood), Patrick (review here) has a great old-school dread to it I just know everyone will want to see (and here's hoping everyone will want to read this interview with the delightful Ms. Sergeant as well)!

THR has confirmed that Australian actress Holt is indeed departing the show as a series regular although the door remains open for her to return as a guest star, potentially reprising her role as early as later this season or during the show's sophomore run.
Rebekah first appeared early in the third season of "The Vampire Diaries" in the 2011 episode "The End of the Affair," prompting an expanded presence on that series and leading to her landing the co-lead on "The Originals" with Joseph Morgan as Klaus and Daniel Gillies as Elijah. Holt has played the character for more than 50 episodes.

Mark Hartley's remake of the Ozploitation classic remains faithful to the original in spirit, but makes some bold changes
The 1978 Ozploitation horror flick, Patrick, had an irresistible plot about a psychopathic but comatose patient who becomes obsessed with a pretty nurse and takes over a sinister hospital using telekinesis. It's not hard to see why it has come up for the remake treatment.
Re-doing classic films is rarely a good idea – indeed it's often disastrous – but as Steven Soderbergh demonstrated with Ocean's Eleven, remaking flawed movies can be productive, especially when the source material is a neat concept that somehow failed in the translation.
