This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Like the original X-Men: The Animated Series before it, X-Men ’97 has been a masterclass in adapting (and updating) classic comic book storylines in ways that make them feel fresh and surprising. The latest episode, “Bright Eyes,” continues this tradition.
“Bright Eyes” deals with the fallout of the destruction of Genosha, with both a beautiful eulogy that Nightcrawler delivers at Gambit’s funeral but also Rogue going, well, rogue to punish those behind Remy’s death. But the biggest reveals involve not just confirmation of Cable’s relationship to Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, but also that Magneto is still alive and being held hostage by a new villain, one with major ramifications for the rest of this animated universe…

Comic creator Frank Miller has struck a unique publishing deal with Abrams ComicArts.
The acclaimed graphic novel arm of art and illustration-centric Abrams will now be the book publisher of select titles from Miller’s independent and self-published book company, Frank Miller Presents. Miller, the creator behind The Dark Knight Returns, 300 and Sin City, becomes the latest big comic name to work with the company, which already works with comics author Brian Michael Bendis and comics painter Alex Ross, and is known for such titles as My Friend Dahmer and The Superhero’s Journey.
The first titles to be released under the partnership will hit in fall 2024 and include Ronin Rising, Miller’s sequel to his acclaimed and influential 1983 miniseries Ronin; and the young adult fantasy Pandora. Ronin Rising will be available in two formats, a collector’s edition and a manga edition, via Abrams’s new Kana imprint.

Zack Snyder may not be part of the DC verse anymore, but he has given us some of the best Dceu movies of all time. One of these few movies is Justice League. Although the director had to leave midway during the movie’s production, the project brought one of the most iconic comic book scenes on the big screen.
The Flash races against Superman in Justice League
While the movie failed to reveal who is the winner, it featured a Superman vs. Flash race, an event that has occurred many times in comic books. This one scene has a surprising and special connection to Lex Luthor that would really melt the fans’ hearts.

"The Simpsons" has a long history of parodying Batman. Bart Simpson has the masked alter ego Bartman, who even starred in his own six-issue spin-off comic. Season 4 classic "Mr. Plow," one of the best "Simpsons" episodes, features Adam West as himself; he laments the lack of Robin (and the Batusi dance) in the then-contemporary Tim Burton "Batman" movies. You can draw a straight line from West parodying himself like this to his eventual recurring role on "Family Guy."
In "The Simpsons" season 24's "Dark Knight Court," Mr. Burns and Smithers stumble into the Android's Dungeon, where Burns rediscovers his childhood love of comic books. Reading the copyright-friendly "Detection Comics," Monty has his "he just like me Fr!" moment with Batman. So, he decides to become a caped crusader of the night as Fruit Bat Man, whose exploits are scored to music much like Hans Zimmer's operatic "Dark Knight" trilogy score.

Marvel and Disney+ have been sprinkling out little details about season 2 of the Disney+ series "What If... ?" over the last few months, like a proper introduction to the Alternate Gamora, as well as the inclusion of Marvel's first Mohawk superhero, Kahhori, who was created specifically for the show. The character's inclusion was actually spoiled early when she appeared as part of a limited-edition Funko collectable, so it's clear that Marvel has high expectations for the new episode. The series has been called "the ultimate superhero fan fiction," and boasts some truly incredible animation.
The first season of the hit series looked at what would happen to all our favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters if things had been different. In season 1, we saw what could have happened (and maybe did in a different part of the multiverse) if Peggy Carter got the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers and became Captain Carter.

For almost 35 years, Marvel lovers have had a different way of indulging their fandom than just voraciously reading the comics. In 1990, Impel released a set of licensed collectible cards featuring characters, battles, and key moments from throughout Marvel history (up to that point). Since then, not a year has gone by without more Marvel cards—some with exclusive art, some with special treatments like foiling, stamping, exclusive numbering, and holograms, and some with…questionable…art direction.

This article contains spoilers for The Flash.
It took about a decade, but finally, Warner Bros. got its Flash solo movie in theaters, with Ezra Miller reprising their role as the Fastest Man in the DC Universe. While the movie’s very disappointing box office return thus far likely means we’ll never get a proper sequel, The Flash does leave a few loose ends that would have presumably been addressed in the next installment. One cliffhanger in particular has even spawned a major online fan theory that just so happens to have been confirmed by director Andy Muschietti himself, leaving us daydreaming about what could have been.
Although The Flash is heavily inspired by 2011’s fan-favorite comic book Flashpoint by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, Muschietti branched out with a different version of events. But one thing the director kept from the source material was the death of Nora...

As repeated numerous times, the importance of the source material is immense when it comes to comic-book-oriented adaptations, especially at a time when creators are getting sidelined by big studios and corporate giants despite their works being responsible for the multimillion-dollar adaptations in the first place. Most of the time, the makers of these adaptations take artistic liberties and interpret the narrative in their own ways, which very seldom surpasses the source. The recently released Dceu flick The Flash draws heavily from the seminal story Flashpoint, written and drawn by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, a story that had an unprecedented effect on DC universe’s continuity. Although the movie extensively deals with the source’s time-travel narrative, alternate timelines, and multiverse-related themes, there are some crucial changes that give it a distinctiveness of its own. We will discuss a major portion of the similarities and differences between the source...

After so many delays, controversies, and false starts, WB’s latest DC extravaganza has finally hit the big screen. Yes, The Flash is easily the studio’s most ambitious Dceu installment to date, especially when it comes the sheer amount of comic book nerdiness packed into this movie.
Barry Allen’s multiverse-shattering adventures not only brings back most of the Justice League but also Michael Keaton’s Batman and all the Burtonverse references that come with it. And there are so many more easter eggs to be found in the film’s two-and-a-half-hour runtime, including quite a few that even The Flash‘s very spoiler-y marketing hasn’t yet revealed.

It’s official: Andy Muschietti is going to the Batcave.
Ahead of the release of his superhero movie The Flash, Muschietti has decided to keep his feet firmly in the land of DC.
Muschietti finalized a deal to direct The Brave and the Bold, the feature project that will introduce a new big-screen version of Batman, one that will fit into the expansive universe being developed by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The involvement has been whispered about for several weeks. Muschietti, who has been on the Flash press tour, has been coy about his connection. But a deal was finally closed this week, according to a source, very conveniently timed to the opening of his movie.

In one week, Warner Bros. Pictures The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti opens in theaters on June 16.
Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone feature film. Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life.

The Flash may be the fastest man alive, but his upcoming movie has had a slow crawl to release. We've previously documented the full timeline of production on "The Flash" and the many different directors and writers who've been at the helm. In 2015, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ("The Lego Movie") were hired to write a treatment for "The Flash," with an option to direct. They instead chose to board "Solo: A Star Wars Story" as co-directors, but were later fired from that movie and replaced with Ron Howard. Fortunately, they got a second shot at the world of superheroes with "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse".
The final version of "The Flash" was directed by Andy Muschietti ("It") and written by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein ("Spider-Man: Homecoming"), and Joby Harold ("Army of the Dead"). However, Lord and Miller retain off-screen writing credits for "additional material," indicating that elements of their...

One of the most exciting parts about Matt Reeves' take on "The Batman" was that it explicitly showed Bruce Wayne being extra caring around children. He wants to comfort the son of the murdered mayor, he cares about that kid thinking of him as a scary monster, and decides to change his ways from being vengeance personified to more of a symbol for the people of Gotham City. "The Batman" focused on that kid enough times to make the audience theorize heavily that the child was going to turn out to be Robin, the Boy Wonder.
Likewise, when James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their plans for the new DC universe and revealed yet another take on the Caped Crusader, what made it the most exciting announcement was the news that "The Brave and the Bold" would also introduce Damian Wayne to the DC Universe.

It’s been an incredibly long journey for the Fastest Man Alive on the big screen. But various false starts later, Warner Bros.’ The Flash is finally about to take a bow in theaters. Directed by Andy Muschietti (It) from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey), the film in part adapts the classic DC comic Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) goes back in time to save his mother from death and completely changes the present, creating a dystopian alternate DC timeline. While it doesn’t look like the movie will get too bogged down in the many subplots of Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s miniseries, The Flash will incorporate quite a bit of DC movie history into its runtime.

The Flash movie…ah, what else is there to say after all this time? First announced before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was even released, a movie that became a hot potato of scripts and directors even before Ezra Miller became a media sensation for all the wrong reasons. A flick that boasts the impressive Andy Muschietti in the director’s chair with a script by Christina Hodson. A film that just released its first trailer mere weeks after Warner Bros. announced the new Dcu plan from DC Studios, a plan which was studiously and diplomatically ambiguous about the status of Miller’s version of Barry Allen after this movie drops in June.
All we know is that at the press event where DC Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that Dcu slate, they said that The Flash “resets everything.” Gunn also praised this film as “one...

The DC Universe is rebooting Batman. Again. On a certain level, it’s a little funny since one of the reasons James Gunn and Peter Safran were presumably brought in to right the ship of DC Studios is that Warner Bros. had let a situation occur where three popular actors were playing Batman at the same time: Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, and the new kid on the block, Robert Pattinson.
The quasi-reset of the Dcu that Gunn and Safran confirmed Tuesday has apparently done away with two of them. During a press briefing on the WB lot this week, the Guardians of the Galaxy director confirmed Affleck is done with the cape and cowl while Pattinson’s take is entirely separate from Gunn and Safran’s plans for the onscreen DC Universe going forward.

It’s no secret at this point: Warner Bros’ upcoming Flash movie will not only be a showcase for Ezra Miller’s speedy Barry Allen but for a few other titans of the DC universe. As previously reported, the multiverse-spanning adventure will introduce the Dceu’s very own Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle, as well as see the return of both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as Batman. Yeah, it’s a very big movie — perhaps the most consequential DC big-screen event since 2017’s Justice League brought the world’s greatest heroes together for the first time.
Affleck’s return to the cape and cowl would be a big enough headline, especially after he initially bowed out of the role after attempts to write and direct his own Batman solo adventure, a movie now being helmed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson. But Keaton’s return is huge news.

The Flash movie was always going to be about much more than a guy who just runs fast. Long expected to be based on the Flashpoint comics story by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, where Barry Allen inadvertently opens up an alternate reality after preventing the murder of his mother in the past, there has always been the expectation that we would see different versions of beloved and recognizable DC characters.
Andy Muschietti’s The Flash movie looks like it won’t disappoint in that regard. Between the bombshell revelation that Ben Affleck would return to the role of Batman for the movie, and the earlier one that Michael Keaton would also play an older Dark Knight in the film, it would seem that the big screen Flashpoint might be even wilder than the comics one was.
But one thing that it will certainly do is help cement the idea...

Well, anything is possible in the Dceu now. Whether it’s Zack Snyder finally getting to complete his legendary (or infamous) “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, or Ezra Miller showing up in full Flash costume for a cameo in TV’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, it seems that the walls that divide the various divisions of DC Entertainment are less stable than they were in the past. But nothing is perhaps more momentous than Ben Affleck returning to Batman, a role which he played in two movies and then left before he could appear in a solo film.

DC’s new comics solicitations for November, 2020, were full of surprises, but there may not be a bigger shock than the announcement that they would be publishing Alan Moore’s pitch for Twilight of the Superheroes.
DC is releasing DC Through the ’80s: The End of Eras on December 15th. It’s a compilation of several pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths stories, including Moore and Curt Swan’s legendary “What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?” Detective Comics #500, The Brave and the Bold #200, and several others. The hardcover will also include essays on this era of comics from Elliot S! Maggin, Andy Kubert, J.M. DeMatteis, and others, alongside Moore’s mega-crossover pitch.
Twilight of the Superheroes was Moore’s attempt, in 1987, to clean up what he saw as the mess that was created by Crisis. It was a mechanism to reintroduce a version of the multiverse, and an effort to...

Despite a parade of directors, writers, rumors, and release dates, The Flash movie is still coming to the Dceu. With a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) and directed by Andy Muschietti (WB’s two-part horror epic It), the Dceu Flash movie will be loosely inspired by Flashpoint, a DC Comics story that remains a major touchstone in the life of Barry Allen.
For those who don’t know, Flashpoint was a 2011 comic from Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert which saw Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, from murdering Barry’s mother. As a result, a Butterfly Effect-esque “flashpoint” causing radical changes to the DC Universe. But the roots of Flashpoint go even further back, to another Geoff Johns-written Flash tale.

I’ve written elsewhere that I seem to have reviewed a whole lot of these over-sized DC Special’s of late. Not a complaint, mind you, far from it. DC could have quite easily stuck out a load of old reprints and hastily cobbled together inventory stuff and put it out and a lot of people would probably have picked it up anyway. They went the other way though, and have curated a lot of nicely done tales, by a mixture of legendary creators and more recent fan favourites. The recent Flash 80 pager I reviewed was especially good. Scanning down the creator list on this Robin book, straight away names like Marv Wolfman, Devin Grayson, Tom Grummett, Dan Jurgens, and Chuck Dixon jump out. I like the fact DC try to get creators particularly associated with the different incarnations of Robin to recreate their magic.

Wonder Women, Batmen, Baby Yodas and Ultramen were among the hundreds of cosplayers who showed up at the Singapore Comic Con taking place at the Marina Bay Sands on Saturday. Thousands more queued to get inside the massive event.
A bewitching array of almost every well-known comic character on the planet, and events around them were thronged by Singaporeans celebrating their weekend. Given the imminent Dec. 19 release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” evidence of that universe was very much on show.
Fans were deeply immersed in Gamersaurus Rex’s tabletop experiences where players enacted battles between opposing forces using hand painted miniature models, in games like “Warhammer 40,000,” “X-Wing,” “Dungeons and Dragons” and “A Song Of Ice And Fire.”

Renowned graphic novel artists Andy Kubert (“Batman”) and Whilce Portacio,(“X-Men”) were on hand to share their vast experience at the Singapore ComicCon on Saturday. The event is a new addition to the annual Singapore Media Festival.
Kubert and Portacio said that, despite the popularity of comic books, it is quite hard to break into the industry, and that practitioners have to excel. Kubert is the son of legendary artist Joe Kubert (“Sgt. Rock”) and is a graduate of and teaches at The Kubert School, founded by his father. “I help a lot of newcomers come in,” said Kubert. “They have to be very good and talented. You will get rejected and rejected, but don’t ever give up. If you love it, stick with it.”
Speaking about writing versus art, Kubert said, “Writing is a whole different ball game, it’s a whole different set of muscles and I...

Frank Miller returns to Batman’s dark future with Superman, Superboy, and Rafael Grampa.
DC’s Black Label is dropping a pretty big book in December: the latest in the series spawned from The Dark Knight Returns. This one is called The Golden Child, and the most shocking thing about it is probably its artist.
Rafael Grampa, the Eisner-winning Brazilian creator of 5 and Mesmo Delivery, takes the penciling duties for The Golden Child, while Frank Miller returns as writer. Grampa’s art style is like if you threw Sean Murphy, Paul Pope, and Frank Quitely in a blender. Spoilers: that’s real good. And he almost never does interiors!
The Golden Child is a 48-page one-shot, presumably oversized as the other Black Label books are. It picks up three years after the events of the last series. In that one, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batwoman, and Lara...

Been a little while since I’ve checked in on Superman’s solo stuff, so this new issue seemed a good one to dip into. Well, sort of ‘new’, as these stories have appeared somewhere else but I doubt you’d have seen them. A little while ago, on one of DC’s seemingly endless ideas to draw in new readers, they put out comics exclusive to Walmart. These were nice comics, less than 5 dollars for 100 pages, and were a mix of new material and old. The ironic thing was, although they possibly drew in some new readers, it was as always the legacy fan crowd who ate them up. I managed to snag a few myself on a recent holiday to Orlando, and very nice they are too. But I digress. Let’s take a look at...

Not since 1950's EC comics and their lurid depictions of homicide, has there been such a parental outcry over Warner Media's Walmart-exclusive "Superman 100-Page Giant" #7 comic book, by writer Tom King and illustrator Andy Kubert, featuring a 12-page story, devoted to the graphic torture and murder of 'Lois Lane':
"It isn't widely available," said writer King. "I'm not even sure people know the story. So here it is: On a mission far from home, 'Superman' tries calling home. 'Lois' doesn't answer.
"As people do when they can't get in touch with their loved ones, he starts imagining worst case scenarios. Why won't she answer? Images of her demise crowd his thoughts, driving him crazy. In the end, the line connects and Superman and Lois discuss how worried they are about each other."

After years of writing great comic book stories for Marvel Comics, Brian Micheal Bendis headed over to DC Comics to try something new and play with their characters. Well, it has been announced that he'll write a new 12-part Batman story arc in Batman Giant. This is the first time he will be writing a story for the Dark Knight and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the character.
This comic is a part of DC's new line of 100-page Giant comics for Walmart. Bendis has had his fair share of working with dark, gritty, and grounded heroes in the past such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones, so Batman should be a fun character for him to play with.
What's interesting is that Bendis is currently writing Superman for DC and while he's taking on Batman for DC's Walmart-exclusive titles, DC's Batman writer Tom King will write a 12-issue Superman story arc.

If you’re of a certain generation, you remember the big summertime issues that your parents picked up for you on the way to whatever you were doing that required a long car ride to get there– comics that gave you new stories combined with older fare that brought you into a richer shared universe.
This summer, Walmart shoppers will get a chance to do that again as DC Entertainment announced today that a series of “giant” monthly comics will be sold exclusively in more than 3,000 participating Walmart stores around the country.
Available for $4.99, each 100-page anthology features all-new stories written exclusively for these books by some of DC’s top creative talents, including Tom King, Dan Jurgens, Brian Michael Bendis, Andy Kubert (New Challengers) and others. Each title will also include additional story arcs drawn from fan-favorite DC eras such as the New 52, Rebirth and the New Age of DC Heroes.

Right now, it’s looking like 2018 will be a huge year for Aquaman. I mean, not only does he have his first solo movie arriving in theaters this December – which is getting some very positive buzz via its first test screenings – but his comics have also seen some huge shakeups in recent memory. As such, next week’s issue may prove to be a decent jumping on point for newbies.
We say that because while the uninitiated may be unfamiliar with King Rath, Aquaman #34 aims to spill the beans regarding his backstory. Given that, said offering seems to be as good of a primer on the man currently giving Arthur Curry headaches as any. Still, it’s recommended that you also bone up by picking up a few key trade paperbacks, but that’s a discussion for another day.
Regardless of whether you’ve been on board for the past...

The Flash movie will adapt one of the most famous and controversial Flash storylines of all time: Flashpoint.
After Justice League, fans are likely to want to see more of Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. The Flash movie will adapt, in some form, the Flashpoint story by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. In it, Barry learns that his mother wasn't murdered by his father, but by an evil speedster named Eobard Thawne. Barry goes back in time to prevent the murder (and thus keep his father out of prison), and when he returns to the present, he finds that time has changed dramatically.
“What fans understand when they hear Flashpoint,” Ezra Miller told Entertainment Weekly, “would be almost like hearing a word like ‘Crisis.’ We start to understand that our precious DC universe will inevitably be torn asunder to an endless, headache-inducing fabric of multiversality. The ideas behind Batman The Dark Knight: The Master Race are huge in scope, touching on race, religion, society, etc. There’s a reason this collected book is called “Master Race” – to remind us, bluntly, of the themes in this third entry into Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight trilogy touches upon. It may seem heavy-handed to call this collection that – but it works to succinctly tell the audience what to expect from this story, as in a villain, Quar, who is a maniacal madman, hellbent on shaping the world in his twisted image – a la a myriad of dictators and war criminals – calling humans “ants”, chastising them for ruining the planet, calling for genocide on a global scale by zealots (more of...

If you’re reading this, there’s a very strong chance that you have some level of familiarity with Frank Miller’s immortal classic, The Dark Knight Returns (Dkr). Since its original publication in the mid-1980’s, it’s managed to change the way mainstream outlets view the comic book industry, been adapted to an animated feature, and has influenced countless other Batman comics – along with several of the live action films.
So, when the acclaimed author rolled out the sequel that was The Dark Knight Strikes Again! (DK2) back in 2001, expectations were understandably high. Unfortunately, it didn’t reach the bar that its predecessor did, but we’re happy to say that the threequel – Dark Knight III: The Master Race – has lived up to the legacy of the original, with the collected edition undergoing a slight re-titling of Batman: The Dark Knight: Master Race.

The Flash movie is going to follow the Flashpoint story, and that makes perfect sense for the DC extended universe...
While much of the DC Entertainment portion of Warner Bros' Hall H presentation at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con focused on the next two movies on the Dceu slate, Justice League and Aquaman, one key detail about their other movies stood out. The Flash movie will be an adaptation of the famed Flashpoint comic book story.
For those who don't know, Flashpoint was a 2011 comic from Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert which saw Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent his mother's murder by Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash. As a result, a Butterfly Effect-esque 'flashpoint' causes the DC Universe to develop in a radically different way. But the roots of Flashpoint go even further back, to another Geoff Johns written Flash tale.

Despite having most of 2017’s San Diego Comic-Con ahead of us, DC certainly hasn’t wasted any time making big announcements. In fact, two were made just yesterday when one of the most imaginative writers around, Grant Morrison, crashed the “Meet the Publishers” panel and announced sequels to some of his most well-known works, those being Arkham Asylum 2 and Wonder Woman: Earth One Volume Two.
First, let’s talk about his next Wonder Woman tale that’s following up on its 2016 predecessor since it’s fresher in everyone’s minds. According to the superstar scribe, this’ll be “the story’s Empire Strikes Back,” which makes sense since the first volume focused largely on Diana’s origin, and that we’re to expect Amazons vs. Nazis.

Dark Days: The Forge #1 is a glorified zero issue that lays major groundwork for the upcoming Metal event that will be impacting nearly all DC comics this upcoming summer. Much is revealed in this issue that will have many fans asking some major questions. The issue, however, is if you are not very familiar with DC lore prior to The New 52 you may be left confused by nearly everything this is showcased in this book. Clearly, something major is going on and this is the very beginning. For some it may be a better choice just to wait until it gets fully started.
Long lasting DC fans that have loved stories like Crisis on Infinite Earths and even The Dark Knight Strikes Again will certainly have a lot to be excited about.

Although we’re still several weeks away from the arrival of Dark Days: The Casting #1, the next stop on the road to Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s much anticipated reunion that is Dark Nights: Metal, DC is intent on keeping the hype train going by releasing several more preview images.
Not long ago, the publisher teased us with a few uncolored interiors and variant covers taken from the one-shot and, in a repeat of sorts, we have a similar set of offerings to present you with today. This time, however, we have Jim Lee’s standard cover to go along with the batch, in addition to what appears to be a trade ad with some words from co-writer Snyder as he tries to convince us to buy the book. But,...
