Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

“Carnival Row,” the Prime Video series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, will conclude after two seasons on the streamer. The second season of the fantasy show premieres on February 17, Amazon announced Monday.
The series first premiered in August 2019 and focuses on the titular city of Carnival Row, where mythological beings exist as oppressed refugees in a human-dominated social order. Bloom stars as Rycroft Philostrate, a detective in the city and a half-fae, who begins investigating a conspiracy involving a group of fae known as the Black Raven — one of whom is his former lover Vignette Stonemoss (Delevingne). Season 2 picks up where the first left off, with Rycroft off the force but still investigating a series of murders, while the Black Raven escalates their plans to protest oppression in the city.

“Carnival Row” will end after just two seasons at Amazon, with the streamer set to launch the new and final installment of the fantasy drama in early 2023.
Season 2 of the series will launch on Feb. 17, with new episodes dropping weekly thereafter. The season will consist of 10 episodes. “Carnival Row’s” first season aired on Amazon back in August 2019. It was renewed for a second season in July of that year ahead of the series premiere. Amazon did not release any kind of viewership data on the show, but it received mixed reviews from critics upon its launch. The first season holds a 57 critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In his review for Variety, Daniel D’Addario wrote, “This new series reaches for credibility with gruesomeness and exaggeration, falling flat at every turn. It’s painful proof that a genre success cannot be reverse-engineered.”

The carnival is closing at Amazon.
Carnival Row, the fantasy drama series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne that last aired in August 2019, will end with its previously announced second season on the Prime Video platform.
The series will return for its final 10 episodes on Feb. 17, 2023. Episodes of the drama, a co-production between Legendary TV and Amazon Studios, will debut weekly.
Erik Oleson (Daredevil, The Man in the High Castle) serves as showrunner on season two after he took over for Marc Guggenheim (Arrow) and Travis Beacham, on whose feature script the series was based.
Sources say the series was creatively overhauled for season two, which along with delays from the pandemic contributed to the three-plus years between seasons of the series. All told, Oleson serves as the third showrunner on Carnival Row, which Beacham co-created alongside Rene Echevarria, who was the show’s original showrunner.

Titled “Cross,” the series follows Alex Cross, a detective and forensic psychologist reeling from the murder of his wife, as he takes on cases while juggling his relationship with his children. It’s been over two years since Daredevil was cancelled at Netflix, but fans have never stopped pushing for Charlie Cox’s portrayal of the Man Without Fear to be revived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or a potential Disney+ series, and when Netflix’s exclusive rights to Daredevil expired last November, a new rumor began to circulate that Marvel was about to give those who had invested in three seasons of the nixed superhero series a chance to see Matt Murdock again in the multiverse-heavy MCU installment, Spider-Man 3.
Well, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has been chatting with various sites as part of his promotional duties for the studio’s upcoming MCU spinoff series WandaVision this week, and he’s been asked directly if there is any truth to the rumor that we might see Cox’s Daredevil back in action soon.

Marvel fans were crushed when Netflix announced late last year that they were cancelling Daredevil after just three seasons. Arguably the most popular of the streaming service’s collaborations with Marvel Television, the Hornhead’s show was particularly beloved for its talented cast, including Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Hensen and, of course, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
Unfortunately, the attempts to get Netflix to change their minds about the series’ future since then have come to naught, and from what we’ve heard about the strained relationship between Netflix and Marvel behind the scenes and the complicated contractual factors, it seems unlikely that Daredevil will get renewed. At least showrunner Erik Oleson’s making the best of a sad situation though and is now teasing that he’s working on a new project which should excite fans.

Viewers were surprised by the cancellation of “Daredevil” last month; so was the cast. Charlie Cox called it “painful,” and now his castmate Amy Rutberg has said that even “people high up at Marvel” were shocked by the move — and that Netflix was solely responsible for the decision.
“My contacts at Marvel were very surprised. Any of the rumors that it was a Marvel decision are wrong, I think it was purely a Netflix decision. That comes from personal conversations with people high up at Marvel. They were surprised,” said Rutberg in an Inverse interview.
“We had heard rumors we would start production as early as February 2019,” she said. “It’s a little unusual to be that far ahead in the planning and cancel the show, which makes me think Netflix was laboring over whether or not to cancel it. My guess was it was not an easy decision.”

Marvel fans still haven’t quite come to terms with the fact that Daredevil has been cancelled after just three seasons. The show was beloved by everyone and had just served up perhaps its greatest run yet, so there’s been a lot of theorizing about why the decision was made to curtail the exploits of the Man Without Fear.
One of the more common explanations going around is that Marvel made the call to finish the series as they’re focusing on creating fresh content for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney Plus. However, one star of the show is now disputing this, as she says her contacts at Marvel seem just as shocked by the news as the fans and the cast and crew are.

Marvel fans are still reeling from the shock of Daredevil being cancelled this past Thursday. Though our guards were up after Luke Cage and Iron Fist met the same fate the other month, the critical acclaim and overwhelmingly positive reaction from viewers that the recent third season of the drama received made it look like a renewal was a dead cert. Unfortunately, though, we were wrong.
And it seems we weren’t the only ones who weren’t expecting the devastating news. Daredevil producer Sam Ernst spoke on Twitter about a lunch he shared with a group of Marvel execs, who were apparently just as shocked that the show had been given the chop as we were.

Though I’m admittedly behind on Netflix’s Daredevil series, I’m right there with the rest of you lamenting the show’s sudden cancellation. I mean, not only is Hornhead one of my favorite Marvel characters overall, but the gritty take presented on the streaming service made for riveting stuff.
On the one hand, some people saw this coming following both Luke Cage and Iron First suffering the same fate. But on the other, it’s kind of a shock because Daredevil is often viewed as being one of the more successful entries making up Marvel’s Netflix initiative, not to mention arguably being the flagship show.
That said, if you desired yet another kick to the groin by way of a steel-toed boot, Co-Executive Producer Sam Ernst dropped this nugget on Twitter:
“Man, so weird to be in the Daredevil writers room today, getting the news that we’re cancelled.

Last night Netflix announced that they cancelled Daredevil, and fans were not happy. It sucks! This was just such a great show that got better and better with every season!
It’s hard not to think that the whole Disney+ thing played a role in its cancellation. Some fans think that all these Marvel shows that Netflix has cancelled will eventually continue on Disney+ and I hope that happens!
Marvel and Disney+ are currently developing a slew of new, big budget shows that will focus on characters that have been introduced in the Marvel movies. Will they want to spend even more money on continuing these Netflix shows that were supposedly seeing dips in ratings? I hope that we haven’t seen the last of Daredevil, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Anyway, Daredevil season four was already planned out when the team got news of the cancellation.

Marvel's Daredevil has been canceled by Netflix after three seasons.
There will be no Daredevil season 4.
In a stunning move, Marvel and Netflix have confirmed that Daredevil has been canceled after three seasons. The cancellation of Daredevil follows the axe falling on Luke Cage and Iron Fist after two seasons each. But while Netflix never talks numbers, and Iron Fist was never warmly received (although its second season was quite good), Daredevil season three was generally considered to be one of the finest seasons Marvel TV has ever produced, so its end is going to raise some eyebrows.
“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” a statement released to Deadline reads. “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.

You’ve got to love a show that gets stronger over time… or at least gets higher ratings, and since that’s exactly the case with Syfy‘s Haven, fans can relax for quite a while. The network has ordered 26 new episodes, and they will air as a split fifth season. 13 will air in the fall, and the remaining 13 will air sometime in 2015.
According to the announcement, it isn’t just ratings that are high on the network’s radar. Up on the social media chatter front, the show is clearly proving itself as one with loyal, and vocal, fans, and the network is paying attention to that.

Stephen King has recently found success with TV series such as Haven and Under the Dome. He's got another new series going into development at ABC called Grand Central. The show will be based on a short story called "The New York Times At Special Bargain Rates," which was published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in 2008.
The series is coming from Haven writers Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn, and according to the report, it is "a potential summer straight-to-series order." It's also described as "a character-driven procedural with a supernatural twist."
The story centers on a woman who gets a phone call from her husband who died in a plane crash two days prior. He warns her of an impending tragedy and saves her life.
Grand Central will premiere in the U.S. in the summer of 2014.
