When you think of the Guinea Pig series you think lo-fi, low budget exploitation shockers that push the boundaries of taste and decency, packed with gore and not much story. Which is essentially what Stephen Biro and co. brought to American audiences with the first film in the American Guinea Pig series… What you don’t think of with this particular franchise is a well-presented, well-constructed, well though-out horror that is packed with gore yet still gives the likes of Blumhouse a run for their money in terms of production values and storytelling.
But that’s Exactly what you get with American Guinea Pig: The Song of Solomon.

Stars: Tom Cruise, Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright Olsen, Alejandro Edda, Caleb Landry Jones, Jayma Mays, Jesse Plemons, Lola Kirke | Written by Gary Spinelli | Directed by Doug Liman
Tom Cruise reteams with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman for this slickly entertaining, if slightly familiar comedy thriller based on the true story of pilot-turned-drug smuggler-slash-cia conscript Barry Seale.
American Made begins in 1978, with bored Twa pilot Seale (Cruise) being tapped by CIA agent Schafer (Domhnall Gleeson) to fly covert surveillance missions over Central America. When those missions involve Colombia, Seale is approached by the Medellín Cartel, who offer him large sums of cash if he smuggles cocaine into America.
Things quickly spiral out of control as the CIA task Barry with running Russian guns to the Contras in Nicaragua, only for the Cartel to make him a better offer for them, which he cheerfully accepts. Meanwhile,...

Doug Liman on Swingers, getting arrested, American Made, Bourne and much more...
It was only a couple of weeks ago that we last spoke to Doug Liman, who in July was promoting his compact, $3 million war thriller The Wall. Now, he's back with another thriller, this one taking place over a much broader canvas. American Made tells the story of Barry Seal, a pilot who wound up running missions in and out of Central America for the CIA; taking covert photographs and smuggling in guns.

Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman reteam for American Made. Here's our review of a great crime drama...
There are certain things you can generally count on in a Tom Cruise movie: running really fast, smiling winningly at ladies and hurtling around in fast cars, or on motorbikes, or in planes. Also, he’ll be topless at least once.
See related Marc Webb interview: The Amazing Spider-Man, villains, casting, sequels and more
Cruise’s second collaboration with director Doug Liman (they previously brought us the unexpectedly great sci-fi action film, Edge Of Tomorrow), American Made requires quite a bit more from the Hollywood stars than just winning smiles and stunts - though the movie does deliver plenty of those too. Cruise plays Barry Seal, a former Twa commercial pilot who, at the behest of an enigmatic guy with a beard who calls himself Schafer (Domhnall Gleeson) winds up flying planes for the CIA.

Filming on Mission: Impossible 6 has been postponed to accommodate Tom Cruise’s “serious” on-set injury.
The series mainstay and all-around daredevil was filmed in apparent pain yesterday when a London rooftop stunt went awry. Footage captured by TMZ showed Cruise leaping between two buildings while attached to a safety harness, though the actor seemed to mistime his jump, resulting in him slamming his chest against the concrete. The 55-year-old managed to pull himself up, but we’re now learning that the injury is more serious than initially feared.
At least, that’s according to The Sun (via Screen Rant), after the UK tabloid relayed a report claiming that Tom Cruise will need “months to recover” for what is a “serious” injury. Neither Paramount Pictures nor director Christopher McQuarrie have released any formal statement to support these claims, and given The Sun’s spotty track record, it’s best approaching...

The Mummy seemed like a cash grab from the moment it was announced. Universal has been trying to launch a universe of their own, featuring classic movie monsters associated with the studio, including Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and the Invisible Man, for years. The Mummy is essentially the studio going "all in" to jump start what is now called Dark Universe. Casting a star as large as Tom Cruise initially read as an attempt to make up for shortcomings in other areas. When you don't have much else, attach the biggest movie star in the world, and your film will sell (maybe)! Additionally, though the first movie came out in 1999, the Brendan Fraser lead Mummy franchise is still fresh enough in the public's mind that starting a new universe with The Mummy seemed like a strange choice. So, is The Mummy just another ill-advised attempt to launch a universe, cashing in...

Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond, Kingsman: The Secret Service) plays the title monster in The Mummy and from what we’ve seen in trailers we can’t imagine anyone else in the role. This remake follows an ancient princess who is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.
We caught up with the actress and got an inside scoop on what it was like filming this monster movie remake. She praised co-star Tom Cruise's on-set presence and knowledge of filmmaking. Apparently, spending so much time with Cruise "felt like being at school" (in a good way!). Hopefully she keeps killing it and we continue to see more of her on the big screen.

I’ll be the first to admit I was rather skeptical going into Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, as the trailers seemed to be far more focused on the action instead of the horror to the story. But thankfully, my fears about the direction this new Mummy would take were quickly quelled about 25 minutes into the film, when I realized that this brand new Dark Universe that Universal is set to unleash was starting off on the right foot, because I was having a helluva fun time and was completely immersed in this world.
And while there was a lot of action to be found (I mean, it’s a Tom Cruise movie, and honestly, no one goes for the cinematic gusto quite the way he does), it’s apparent early on that Kurtzman wasn’t screwing around when it came to the horror aspects of The Mummy, making this...

Pernicious (adjective), definition:
causing insidious harm or ruin; ruinous; injurious; hurtful: pernicious teachings; a pernicious lie. deadly; fatal: a pernicious disease. Obsolete. evil; wicked.
Never has there been a film that so clearly lived up to its dictionary definition as James Cullen Bressack’s Pernicious. The film sees three beautiful girls arrive in Thailand to teach English and have a summer filled with adventure but none were prepared for what awaited them. Their nightmare begins when they trio pick up three strangers in a bar; three strangers who disappear with (seemingly) the girls jewelery and a golden statue that was left to rot in the attic, leaving behind only gore-filled dreams that haunt the girls sleep.

Dread Central is closely following updates on the upcoming anthology film The Profane Exhibit. Last week we announced three of the ten directors involved in the project. This week some new info has dropped on Manna, the Michael Todd Schneider directed segment of The Profane Exhibit.
Manna was written by Scott Swan, who wrote for both the "Masters of Horror" and "Fear Itself" television series. (Incidentally, the episode of "Fear Itself" Swan wrote was entitled "Skin and Bones" starring Doug Jones. This was easily some of the best horror I've ever seen on television. Just how do you get NBC to air a program featuring cannibalism?) As a director Swan headed Big Junior and Maskhead.
Also working on the project are editor Jeremy Kasten (director of The Wizard of Gore remake and The Theater Bizarre's wraparound) and clothing designer Louis Fleischauer (one of the top fetish clothing designers in the...

Dread Central has gotten wind of a secretive project being developed entitled The Profane Exhibit, a new anthology film dealing with the nature of corruption that looks to be a no-holds barred shocker. Although just a few slivers of information have been leaked about this ten-part compilation, what we've seen thus far indicates some serious pushing of the boundaries of good taste, and we've got high hopes for it.
Three of the film's ten directors have been announced, and it seems to be a true rogues' gallery running the show at The Profane Exhibit. Try these names on for size:
Directing a segment entitled Manna, straight from one of the most visually disturbing horror films ever created, August Underground's Mordum, is Michael Todd Schneider. That name alone should be enough to curl the toes of even the most hardened viewer. But that's just the beginning.

Written by: Fred Vogel, Shelby Vogel, Don Moore
Cast: Damien A. Maruscak, Camille Keaton, Jade Risser, Harvey Daniels, Sean P. McCarthy
Fred Vogel has gained a reputation as one of independent horror's most notorious filmmakers. With movies like The Redsin Tower and the August Underground series, Vogel and his production house, Toetag Pictures, have become synonymous with graphic, controversial fare, which makes Vogel's latest project, Sella Turcica, somewhat puzzling to me.
I came to Sella Turcica having never seen a Fred Vogel film. Sure, I've heard about his flicks for years, and I've always meant to see them. Really I have. I love gore as much as, and maybe more than, the next guy. At first, Vogel's movies were too hard to locate. By the time they’d become easily available, the moment had passed. They fell into the category of films I vowed to catch up with later.
