Barbara Corcoran is meeting a whole different side of herself onDancing With the Stars.
Et's Lauren Zima caught up with the businesswoman at Shark Tank's Paley Center premiere event on Wednesday, where she revealed that rehearsals with her partner, Keo Motsepe, had her crying for the first time in 25 years.
"I spent today three hours in practice and learned exactly three little steps and there's roughly 80 steps in a dance and I have two dances to turn out Saturday. So, needless to say, I had a cry down," Corcoran confessed. "I didn't know I had enough juice in my body to cry. I haven't cried in like, 25 years and I was sobbing all over Keo's lap."
"It was terrible. And I can't stand women that cry. I just had a breakdown," she continued. "I'm hoping I bounce up from here, we'll see. I'm starting to pray again. I haven't prayed for years."

There seemed to be a little bit of magic everywhere when it came to the 1996 sleeper hit "Space Jam."It had Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. It had a younger and still quite marketable Michael Jordan. And it included a bunch of NBA legends who just happened to be available. But a planned sequel more than 20 years after the fact will most likely fail to re-capture that magic. At least that's what "Space Jam" director Joe Pytka is warning "Space Jam 2" director Justin Lin."When we did 'Space Jam,' there was a perfect storm of players and ex-players available," Pytka told The Hollywood Reporter's Bill Higgins, with some of the greatest like Larry Bird, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing. "They all had a persona that complemented the film. There are none like that now."Lin, ...

Happy birthday to Pat Metheny (born August 12, 1954), one of the few jazz superstars of the past four decades to combine commercial success and critical plaudits. After paying his dues in Gary Burton's band (which he joined at age 19), Metheny put out his first album in 1976 and by the time of his third release two years later was gaining crossover radio play. Though the style of his eponymous band was smooth and tuneful, Metheny had a firm basis in jazz and straight-ahead guitarist gods such as Jim Hall (with whom he eventually recorded a fine duo album).
With success came the challenge of avoiding complacency, which Metheny has met masterfully with a wide-ranging series of albums in a variety of stylistic bags, from atonal skronk to mellow Brazilian, from thorny Ornette Coleman covers to mercurial bebop. Along the way he has lent his prestige to both respected elders (Hall, Burton, Coleman,...

This story first appeared in the Oct. 26 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. In 1980, THR ran an ad promoting the "original" faux film Argo -- so perhaps it's only natural that THR helped Ben Affleck find the original "producer" of it. Photos: Ben Affleck at 40: Portraits of 'Argo's' Leading Man, Director and Oscar-Baiting Auteur THR's own Bill Higgins recently located makeup artist Robert Sidell (E.T., The Waltons) -- now 75 and living in Vegas -- who had posed as the fake film's producer. When Higgins ran into Affleck at a dinner and told him about it, the actor-

This article originally appeared in the Dec. 2 issue The Hollywood Reporter magazine. The Hollywood Reporter review said Warner Bros.' Rebel Without a Cause could "capture the Blackboard Jungle type of audience and be a real money picture." It was right about the box office -- made for $1.5 million, it brought in $4.6 million and was a big hit in Europe -- and also about the October 1955 release having "some extraordinarily good acting" by James Dean (who famously died in an auto accident three weeks before its opening), Sal Mineo and Natalie Wood. HBO entertainment president Sue Naegle, Ziffren Brittenham attorney Clifford Gilbert-Lurie and Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo hit Hollywood's Le Cordon Bleu cooking school last week to help 18-year-olds who have recently "aged out" of the Los Angeles County foster care system learn how to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner. Many of the 50 kids were frequently moved around, growing up in environments where a holiday dinner was not something they could count on. Pamela McClintock was in a good mood the other night at a Sundance holiday party at the Soho House, and now I know why. McClintock, with whom I worked at Variety for two years, is one of the paper's senior reporters, a veteran pro who can report, break news, write fast, and get anyone on the phone on any topic. The Hollywood Reporter has hired her away as a senior film reporter, which is a serious loss for Variety, which over the past year has seen vet reporters Michael Fleming defect to Deadline, Tatiana Siegel move to Providence, and Dana Harris move to indieWIRE. Variety has let other talent go in a series of layoffs. Critic Todd McCarthy and party reporter Bill Higgins are now ...

Police investigating the killing of Ronni Chasen have assembled a working theory of what happened to the veteran Hollywood publicist and believe the Beverly Hills attack was planned in advance and not the result of road rage or a carjacking gone awry, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.According to a Beverly Hills city official who was briefed by Police Chief David Snowden, the department's working theory centers on shots being fired out of another vehicle that pulled up next to the passenger side of Chasen's Mercedes-Benz around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. It is believed the shooting occurred either as Chasen made a left turn from Sunset Boulevard onto Whittier Drive, or just after the turn was made. Her black E350 coupe traveled southward on Whittier until it crashed into a light pole at Greenway Drive, deploying the driver side airbag. It is believed the shots shattered the passenger side window.

Score another win for The Hollywood Reporter in its ongoing challenge to weakened Variety and Deadline, which are both seeing traffic declines as THR reaps spikes from new editorial director Janice Min's edgier, newsier content. Now after a decade covering the party scene for Variety, Bill Higgins has moved into the THR offices on Wilshire Boulevard as a staff writer covering parties and Hollywood philanthropy for the invigorated trade, which is doubling staff as it transitions in the next month to a newstand weekly glossy. Higgins now joins recent hires Kim Masters, Allison Hope Weiner and executive editor Owen Phillips (glossy WSJ) at Min's daily editorial meetings. Up next: a gossip columnist. Daily THR editor Elizabeth Guider, also brought over from Variety, has been on extended family leave and is expected back in the office this week.

Ex-Variety staffer and editor Amy Dawes attended Variety’s memorial service for the late great columnist Army Archerd Monday night, attended by Hollywood vets Steven Spielberg, Sidney Poitier, Sharon Stone, Carl Reiner, George Schlatter, Angie Dickinson, Tom Sherak, Arthur Hiller, Hugh O’Brian and Julian Meyers, as well as Variety’s Tim Gray, Peter Bart, Steve Gaydos and Bill Higgins, and ex-Variety staffers Michael Fleming, Michael Speier and Elizabeth Guider, now editor of The Hollywood Reporter. Here’s Dawes’ report and tribute: Journalists spend their lives telling everyone else’s stories, but we rarely hear their own. So it struck me as a rare privilege to get a glimpse into the personal life of renowned showbiz columnist Army Archerd during the tribute hosted by Variety last night at the Saban Theater …...
