Author Paul Torday has died, aged 67.
The British businessman and writer was best known for his novel Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which was later turned into a film.
His publisher Weidenfeld and Nicolson confirmed his passing on Wednesday (December 18) in Northumberland.
Salmon Fishing sold over 500,000 copies in the UK, winning the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize in 2007.
Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt starred in a hit 2011 movie of the same name.
Torday's last novel Light Shining in the Forest was published earlier in 2013.
Weidenfeld and Nicolson's Kirsty Dunseath said: "In many ways Paul Torday invented his own genre.
"His extraordinary fiction was filled with warmth and a wry, humane wit. He was a gentle observer of the foibles of human nature and our social behaviour."
Torday's agent Mark Stanton said: "He was a writer of rare talent, and a true gentleman. Paul, I raise a glass of the finest Bordeaux to you.
