When showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin were gearing up to go into production on the first season of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, there was a lot of talk about – and fan support for the idea of – Kaitlyn Dever from Booksmart and No One Will Save You playing the Ellie character. Now Druckmann and Mazin are preparing for The Last of Us season 2, which is (according to Production List) expected to start filming in Vancouver, Canada on January 7, 2024. For this season, they’ll have to find someone to play the Abby Anderson character from the video game The Last of Us Part II. And industry scooper Jeff Sneider hears that they’re circling back to Dever for this role.

Last year, Kaitlyn Dever was an Emmy Award nominee for her role in the Hulu miniseries Dopesick, and she’s returned to the streamer for her latest project, the film No One Will Save You. The movie is a hybrid of science fiction and horror, and with the plot revolving solely around Dever’s character, she’s largely responsible for the film’s mostly positive reviews so far. Dever, who is also an executive producer on the project, told us why she chose to work on this kind of film. Writer/Director Brian Duffield (Spontaneous, Love and Monsters) continues his streak of housing affecting metaphors within thrilling genre features with his latest, No One Will Save You. In this instance, a woman alienated from her community finds herself contending with highly intelligent, hostile aliens from another planet. In Duffield’s capable hands, a journey through self-forgiveness gets transformed into a propulsive, nerve-fraying sci-fi twist on home invasion horror.
Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) lives alone on the outskirts of town, finding solace from her loneliness through crafts, penning letters, and picking up new hobbies. It’s apparent that Brynn’s seemingly idyllic life masks a deeper, unaddressed pain, one that’s left her ostracized and isolated. The answers to why become the overarching mystery, and Duffield spares not a second in this lean thriller. Almost as soon as we meet Brynn, she’s thrust into an abject nightmare when she wakes in...

Up next from filmmaker Brian Duffield (Spontaneous) is No One Will Save You, an intense sci-fi psychological thriller that begins streaming September 22, exclusively on Hulu.
The film introduces Brynn Adams (Kaitlyn Dever), a creative and talented young woman who’s been alienated from her community. And that’s before she’s awoken one night to actual aliens that have invaded her home.
For the film’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Duffield about creating the intense sci-fi home invasion thriller, one that’s so packed with propulsive action that you don’t realize it’s largely devoid of dialogue.
That wasn’t something that Duffield initially planned when writing the genre-bender.
The filmmaker explains, “It was about halfway into writing it. I didn’t realize it for a long time, then I did, and then I was embarrassed that I didn’t realize it for that long. And then I was like,...
