As the casting of Superman: Legacy moves forward, there’s one important role that fans are awaiting: that of Jor-El, the father of Kal-El aka Superman aka Clark Kent. So who will fill that role? Right now, Kurt Russell has been rumored to be attached to Jor-El – but both Russell and DC Studios co-head James Gunn have debunked that any talk has taken place.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Kurt Russell said there is zero truth (yet?) to playing Jor-El in Superman: Legacy. “You know what: we don’t know a lot about Jor-El. Maybe there’s a version… I never heard this, so I don’t know. James Gunn was a blast to work with, though, so you never know.” For his part, Gunn addressed the rumor on Threads with, “I love working with and directing Kurt. Hilarious and fun and talented guy. But no this was never discussed.” The relationship...

Crazy Legs Features has nabbed film rights to The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince, the bestseller from Mayte Garcia, chronicling her romance with the iconic musical artist, for development as a scripted biopic. With the WGA strike in the rearview mirror, the company is now in search of a writer to pen the adaptation.
The first wife of the superstar born Prince Rogers Nelson, Mayte’s bestseller offers a perspective on Prince through their intensely personal relationship that shows a depth and nuance never revealed of the famously private and beloved artist. The book’s title is inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story that started backstage at a concert. What began as a friendship between two artists blossomed into a romance, thrived as a fairytale from their wedding day, and then struggled due to the devastating losses that ultimately ended their marriage in 2000. Still,...

In November 2006 Microsoft introduced the Zune, a digital music player designed to compete with Apple's iPod, which already had a five-year head start in the marketplace. But I don't have to tell you that. If there's one thing history has taught us, it's that you should never underestimate the appeal of a good old-fashioned Zune. The Zune's dominance of the digital marketplace continues today, and it's a very safe bet that every single person reading this article has a Zune in their pocket right now, probably playing all the latest hit songs from Puddle of Mudd and Sugar Ray.
Yes, yes, I kid, I kid. The Zune was discontinued in 2011 after lackluster sales, and seemed destined to fade into near-total obscurity until filmmaker James Gunn resurrected it as a cheap joke in 2017 at the end of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." After two whole feature films scored...

Back in the dark days of July 2018, when writer-director James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after right-wing scoundrels unearthed old, wildly offensive jokes that Gunn had tweeted years earlier (and later removed and apologized for), there seemed to be little hope for either MCU fans or the core members of the cast that the Guardians trilogy would successfully stick the landing.
Perhaps the one slight consolation for the cast – if any – was that, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige had committed to still using Gunn’s script for Vol. 3, and in fact distributed it to the cast not long after Gunn was dismissed.
Now, five years later, long after Gunn was reinstated as director (and main creative visionary) of the now-completed film, actor Pom Klementieff – who plays the humanoid/alien empath Mantis – says that Gunn did make some adjustments to the script in the intervening period.

In October of 2022, it was announced that James Gunn -- the director of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films -- would be leaving the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take a prestigious job at Warner Bros. with his creative partner Peter Safran. The two of them have been tasked with inventing an entirely new interconnected cinematic universe of their own based on DC Comics, and Gunn has already announced his work on a Superman film he plans to call "Superman: Legacy." Gunn was already more or less facing the door when he directed "The Suicide Squad," a 2021 film based on DC Comics, and subsequently created a TV series, "Peacemaker," based on it.
"Vol. 3," as a result of Gunn's career shift, possesses an elegiac quality, with many established characters moving on to new careers at the film's conclusion. The mood is melancholic, as if audiences may not ever see these characters again.

This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 article contains spoilers.
As the trilogy of Guardians movies comes to a close, you can rightly expect some emotional farewells and some tugs on the old heart strings. Superhero movies should also have heart, and just because this franchise features a gang of lovable misfits doesn’t mean it can’t tackle big issues. Quill’s dad, Ego, is a dick and his mum was killed when he was a boy. Gamora’s surrogate dad Thanos killed her and tortured her step sister Nebula. Drax’s wife and family were murdered by Ronan the Accuser. So these guys haven’t had easy lives, to say the least. But while it’s not a competition, if it was, Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, would win.
Yep, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’s Rocket’s turn to get a backstory, and as you might expect,...

Warning: This post contains spoilers from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”
The emotional conclusion to James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has arrived, and it fills in the gaps of Rocket Raccon’s (Bradley Cooper) backstory. The villainous High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) looms in the background after echoes from Rocket’s past surface. Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), a Sovereign-created specimen, is tasked with hunting down Rocket and returning him to The High Evolutionary.
Rocket’s friends prove just how much they love him with the lengths to which they go to protect him from this fate. Transitioning from Volume 2, which came out in 2017, as well as after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), the Guardians roster heading into this film includes Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), a multiversal version of Gamora who didn’t fall in love with Quill (Zoe Saldaña), Groot...

Spoilers follow.
James Gunn's new film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" tells two stories. In the A-plot, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), has turned to drinking after losing his true love Gamora (Zoe Saldaña). Thanks to some time-travel rigmarole, Gamora has returned, but from a point in the past where she had never met Star-Lord, making it extra painful to see her. Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy will have to set off on a grand quest to find the very specific medical technology needed to save their beloved friend, Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper) who has been grievously injured in an attack by the indestructible Adam Warlock (Will Poulter)
While his friends trek around the galaxy infiltrating high-tech medical facilities, the comatose Rocket dreams of his origins. In flashbacks, we see that Rocket, alongside any number of other test animals, was medically...

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — the third and final installment in James Gunn’s spacefaring superhero saga — opens this Friday.
The first film introduced a band of rag-tag rebels, the Guardians, led by Star-Lord, who ended up playing a pivotal role in the Infinity Saga, largely due to Gamora’s ties to Thanos.
Now, if the last paragraph made total sense to you, you’re probably all set to watch “Vol 3.”
But if you need a refresher — or crash course — into the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies and how they fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, read on. Here’s your viewing shortlist of shows and films — in chronological order — to stream on Disney+ in preparation for Vol. 3.

Everyone's favorite bunch of losers is coming back to the big screen for, by all accounts, one last ride. Rumors that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" would mark the end of this specific iteration of the team have flown far and wide for months now, lending a sense of finality to the upcoming trilogy-capper as writer/director James Gunn sets his sights on bigger and brighter things ahead: namely, his "Superman" movie for rival DC. But before we get to that, it's worth taking stock of how a group of D-list comic book characters went from near-total obscurity to one of the most beloved additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That journey has taken the Guardians from the confines of Gunn's relatively self-contained franchise and through other movies and shows altogether. A lot has happened to them, to say the absolute least, and "Vol. 3" (you can read /Film's...

In the vast tapestry that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies — based on the comics by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning — filled the role of "quirky outsiders." This is a gargantuan feat, given the number of gods, aliens, monsters, and other extraordinary beings found throughout the series. The team consisted of a single human being, Peter (Chris Pratt) who was abducted by a UFO as a child, and had eventually fallen into a family-like relationship with a team of mutants and alien warriors. There was Rocket Raccoon (voice of Bradley Cooper), a talking tree named Groot (Vin Diesel), a deadly assassin named Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), her mostly-mechanical sister Nebula (Karen Gillen), a literal-minded bruiser named Drax (Dave Bautista), and the gentle psychic Mantis (Pom Klementieff).

Pom Klementieff reprises her role of Mantis in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” with an added layer that she is related to Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill as of last year’s Christmas Special.
During the “Guardians” Christmas Special starring Kevin Bacon that aired in November 2022, Mantis quietly brought up to Drax (Dave Bautista) that Ego was her father, meaning she is Peter’s sister. And that changes things going into this last fillm in the “Guardians” franchise.
“The stakes are bigger for sure,” she told TheWrap. “Whatever happens to Peter Quill, it means a lot more to Mantis. She was craving for a family. So this connection means a lot to Mantis for sure.”

What sets James Gunn's superhero movies apart from the rest is his attention to character. His heroes always begin anything but; rather, they're selfish people broken by the past who find new purpose together. This, plus the right blend of humor and earnestness that most of his contemporaries can never strike, means that Gunn's movies do the "found family" trope much better than other blockbusters.
Aside from some detours in "Avengers" movies (and writing decisions that Gunn contests), the Guardians of the Galaxy have been Gunn's sole purview. That means he's crafted their character arcs as arcs, rather than just whatever characterization the shared universe demands. So where does that leave his lead, Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?"
/Film's Jenna Busch attended a press conference headlined by the "Guardians" cast. There, Pratt spoke about where Quill is at in this comic trilogy capper.
