Is this man an idiot?Last week, Senator Jim Bunning (R-ky) called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-nv) an “idiot,” which is neither a stick nor a stone and therefore, sources say, is incapable of breaking Reid’s bones. During an un-self-consciously ironic discussion about how calculating the Democrats are for being so political about financial regulatory reform, “Bunning rose from his seat and, speaking loudly, read fundraising data that singled out Reid and other Senate Democrats for taking more money from Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street firms than Republicans had. After Bunning called Reid an ‘idiot,’ another voice yelled out: ‘He is acting like an idiot,’” reports Politico.

"Nobody on the web has figured out how to make any money," I said one day before a screening at the Sundance Film Festival. I was talking to another movie critic whose reviews were also online.
"My wife has," said a voice behind me. I turned around and saw a robust man in a ski sweater who seemed to be bursting with things to tell me.
"Your wife?" I said.
"She has a Web site that's making a lot of money."
"Who is she?"
"Her name on the Web is Danni Ashe."
Danni Ashe! The name rang more than a bell. Danni Ashe, proprietor of Danni's Hard Drive One of those few webmasters capable of taking their shirts off without driving down the hit count.
That was 13 years ago. The last time I heard from Danni and her husband, Bert Manzari, they were living happily in one of those states with ski slopes.

Jim Bunning's one-man (faux) filibuster this week - which halted the Senate on voting for a health care bill that would extend unemployment benefits - certainly hit a nerve with both the left and right. It didn't really "help" the Republican cause, as Candy Crowly suggested in today's State of The Union, to champion another old rich guy who comes off as hating unemployed people. Tom Delay disagrees! But that's because these studies he read proves that people don't look for jobs until their benefits run out.

Larry King has been on a roll lately. Between confirming David Paterson’s blindness to calling Johnny Weir “fierce” and getting Toyota President Akio Toyoda to admit his fears of not being considered compassionate enough, Larry King Live has made for some must-see TV. Yesterday was no exception, with DNC Chair Tim Kaine and Rnc Chair Michael Steele meeting for the first time in quite a while after circling each other on the cable news rounds for months to discuss the health care reform, Jim Bunning’s pseudo-filibuster and business as usual in Washington.

Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning has kept the Senate on its toes for days with his (technically not a) filibuster to prevent extending benefits for approximately 1.2 million unemployed U.S. citizens. In addition to keeping the Senate on stand-still, Bunning has spent the last several days yelling at reporters and hiding in elevators. But now Bunning has agreed to end the filibuster, on several conditions.

Sorry all you Scooter fans, there were no clips available from last night's How I Met Your Mother. But I did manage to find Barney explaining the Hottest Professions in History. It was surprisingly bawdy for 8pm.
In what may be the most disturbing Oscar promotion in recent memory, Lopez Tonight will all week long have the cast of Jersey Shore reenact scenes from all the Best picture nominees. They began with The Hurt Locker.
Jay Leno knows he's not well liked. So for his cold open last night for his return to late night, he enlisted imagery from America's most beloved movie, his favorite homosexual, and the world's favorite Golden Girl. He won the ratings, but based on the rest of the show, I'm not sure it was good that a lot of people saw it.
Slate doesn't seem to understand movies. As I keep reading about the theater...

The subject of Republican obstructionism came up at yesterday's White House briefing, as Helen Thomas asked Robert Gibbs to explain why the Gop, along with a small minority of Democrats, oppose everything the administration tries to do. Gibbs shied away from criticizing conservadems, but when asked if he could shame elevator cop Jim Bunning, Gibbs said "I'm trying as best I can!"...

Senator Jim Bunning (R-Ky), coiner of awesome new Gop slogans, pulled a pretty weak move this morning when he fled for the elevators to avoid talking to ABC News cameras. According to Jonathan Karl and producer Z. Byron Wolf, Bunning also flipped them the bird before the cameras were rolling.
Still, I like to believe that what unites us is greater than what divides us. To that end, I'd like to point out that, at least when it comes to fleeing reporters, Congress has managed some bipartisan action.

Just in case there was any remaining question about Senator Jim Bunning's status as cranky old man, we submit the following video evidence. Some background: last week Bunning made some news by blocking Senate action needed to prevent an estimated 1.2 million American workers from prematurely losing their unemployment benefits next month. He then complained when his own tactic caused him to miss a basketball game. When pressed by reporters seeking comment, the Senator from Kentucky became a bit unhinged.
