The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse. So, today we thought of listing the best new sci-fi films you can watch at home right now and in this list, we didn’t include any film released before 2023.

Spoiler Alert: The following review contains spoilers.
Got trauma? A global alien invasion is all it takes for emotionally scarred Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) to sort through her issues in “No One Will Save You,” an extraterrestrial creature feature cut from the same cloth as M. Night Shyamalan’s “Signs,” where the jump scares are secondary to an earnest (but far less effective) portrait of coping with guilt and grief.
Building on the novelty value of 2020 debut “Spontaneous” (in which a bunch of teenagers inexplicably start to pop like pimples), director Brian Duffield sets multiple creative challenges for himself and mostly succeeds — well enough to attract eyeballs to this buzz-worthy Hulu release, at least. Amusingly enough, one of the things liable to get people talking is Duffield’s decision to construct the film with hardly any dialogue.
Brynn’s a loner, living in a house that looks like it was decorated by a 12-year-old girl.

Resurrection of both a literal and figurative kind factors heavily into “Lost Bayou,” director Brian C. Miller Richard’s saga about a down-and-out young woman who reunites with her father on his remote houseboat. Though there’s plenty of mysticism coursing through the film’s veins, there’s not quite enough magic, with the easygoing momentum often tipping into listlessness. Those with a fondness for Louisiana’s sultry, swampy backwoods will no doubt take to the movie’s pitch-perfect regional atmosphere, but that can’t compensate for a narrative that’s too predictable.
Premiering at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, the drama (scripted by Nick Lavin and Hunter Burke) revolves around Gal (Teri Wyble), whose habitual boozing and pill-popping has alienated her from her young son. She shows up considerably zonked and a day late to the boy’s birthday party, held at the home of his father (Jackson Beals) and new step-mom.

Horror comedy Smothered is written and directed by actor turned director John Schneider. Yes, you did read that correctly… Actor John Schneider, who many will know from family-friendly productions and his roles as Bo Duke on Dukes of Hazzard and more recently Jonathan Kent, aka Superman’s dad, on Smallville, has turned his hand to writing and directing in more recent years but who knew he had a penchant for penning horror? Admittedly he has had roles in low-budget monster movies such as Super Shark, Snow Beast and Lake Placid 2 but I had no idea he was such a horror fan – he certainly has to be to create such a love letter to the horror community as Smothered.

When John R. Schneider wrote Smothered, he wrote a reverse of the classic horror film model. Instead of a bunch of college-aged girls getting slaughtered by men in masks, his film features men of the mask getting slaughtered by a beautiful young vixen.
And, in a turn that will leave horror fans titillated, the film features a list of horror icons playing “themselves” in this “horroromedy” (horror/comedy) film with more humanity than you’d expect from a film where almost everyone dies.
