Mumford & Sons have collaborated with Pharrell on a new single, “Good People,” which marks the British rock band’s first new music since 2019. The group debuted the uplifting song yesterday during Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton menswear autumn/winter runway show at Paris Fashion Week.
Mumford & Sons — Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane — recorded the song with Pharrell in New York and Paris. They enlisted Native Vocalists, a six-piece vocal choir from the U.S. and Canada hailing from Native American Tribes within the Northern Great Plains, to feature on the track.

Ukrainian-born, Miami-based producer, songwriter, composer, and filmmaker Rostislav Vaynshtok (Terrifier 2), better known as Slavvy, has officially signed on to score All My Friends Are Dead, the upcoming slasher film from Saw IV-3D writer and The Collector director Marcus Dunstan.
All My Friends Are Dead follows a group of close college friends who get a steal on a killer Airbnb for the biggest music festival of the year. A weekend of partying quickly takes a turn for the worst as members of the group are murdered one by one. They soon discover that each one of their deaths directly corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins.
The film, which stars stars Jojo Siwa and Jade Pettyjohn, is currently in post-production.

The moral arc of the universe may bend toward justice, but it also bends toward Taylor Swift songs. Marcus Mumford acknowledged as much (well, kinda, we’re taking some license here) when he introduced a rendition of “Cowboy Like Me,” featuring Maggie Rogers, at Sommo Fest in Canada over the weekend.
The cover came near the end of Mumford & Sons’ headlining set at Sommo Fest, which had already featured a few surprises after an injury forced Ben Lovett to miss a chunk of the show. In his absence, Mumford played...

British band Mumford & Sons has one of the most recognizable sounds in the music industry. The band’s folksy beats have earned acclaim from music critics and fans alike – and much of the credit for the group’s signature sound goes to Marcus Mumford, who sings lead vocals for the group. Mumford, who also plays electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and drums, is a very successful musician with several awards and accolades to his credit. Despite his many accomplishments, Mumford lives a low-key life when he isn’t performing, spending most of his time with his wife, actor Carey Mulligan, and their children. So, how much is Mumford’s net worth?
What is Marcus Mumford best known for?
How has it been 10 years? Feels in equal parts such a long time and also not when you consider just how much has happened. Making this album felt like a continuation of Sigh No More,...

Hulu’s Hellraiser, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner, will debut in the U.S. exclusively on Hulu on October 7, and Bloody Disgusting has learned that Lakeshore Records will release the Hellraiser (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on October 7 as well. And today we’re debuting an exclusive track from the score!
Ben Lovett composed the score for Hulu’s brand new Hellraiser movie, and the track you can listen to down below takes you deep inside the Puzzle Box. It’s titled, fittingly, “Blood Box.”
Lovett tells Bloody Disgusting, “How does one approach music for a Hellraiser film without the outsized influence of Christopher Young’s original score? It’s one of the most famous pieces of music in the genre and for David and myself, part of the fabric of what makes a Hellraiser movie. We were very fortunate that Mr. Young gave...

A world-class outdoor venue inspired by ancient Roman designs is probably the last thing you’d expect to find in Huntsville, Alabama, but the city’s new Orion Amphitheater is all about exceeding expectations. Which actually makes perfect sense for a town that’s primarily known for sending rockets into outer space.
Funded by the city’s capital plan and a percentage of future hotel taxes, the 40 million, 8000-capacity Orion is a perfect complement to the fast-growing north Alabama city. It was also created with the idea of community in mind,...

"Hellraiser" is like many horror franchises in that it starts out with a classic and gets off a couple of worthy sequels before turning into absolute dreck. It is, however, unlike your typical slasher series in that there's no reason it should go sailing off the rails.
The premise is evergreen: in a moment of curiosity, a person futzes around with the Lament Configuration, unleashes the sadomasochistic Cenobites, and scrambles to bargain their way out of, or simply forestall, eternal torture. Clive Barker's first film juxtaposed the wanton sexual adventurousness of Frank (Sean Chapman) and Julia Cotton (Clare Higgins) against the teenage innocence of their niece/stepdaughter Kirsty (Ashley Laurence). Director Tony Randel continued this narrative with the wondrously depraved "Hellbound: Hellraiser II," while Anthony Hickox broke off from the Cottons for the interesting "Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth." The next six sequels were excruciatingly awful.

As “The Night House” unfolds, and viewers watch as the widow of a suicide victim slowly unravels his dark past, it is composer Ben Lovett’s creepy, atmospheric music that keeps us on edge — a score that began long before director David Bruckner started filming on a lake in upstate New York.
Lovett and Bruckner are old college buddies from the University of Georgia, and as soon as they finished work on “The Ritual” in 2017, Bruckner sent over a script that immediately inspired the composer.
“The Night House” is not your average horror film. The film’s central character Beth (Rebecca Hall) has visions that compel her to delve into her late husband’s disturbing obsessions, which involve mirror images, reversed architectural floor plans, affairs with women who resemble her, and more.
“So you start thinking about inversions of melody, and negative space, and the idea of focusing on the...

Hellboy: The Bones Of Giants: "Timed to the twentieth anniversary of the publication of Hellboy: The Bones of Giants, legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and bestselling novelist Christopher Golden are adapting their classic prose novel into an all-new four-issue comic book series, drawn by Barbarian Lord creator Matt Smith and featuring colors by Chris O’Halloran (Ice Cream Man) and lettering by Clem Robins. The debut issue of Hellboy: The Bones of Giants comes to comic shops this November.
“Matt Smith’s Barbarian Lord is one of my favorite contemporary comics,” said Mignola. “It’s awfully hard to imagine an artist who is a better fit than Matt to draw Hellboy: The Bones of Giants, with its mix of Norse mythology and action-packed drama.”

“The Night House,” the upcoming psychological horror directed by David Bruckner, follows the trend of recent films, like “The Invisible Man,” “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” by centering on female protagonists dealing with grief and trauma. However, this movie sets itself apart by cranking up the volume on the jump scares.
During the Wednesday premiere at the Cinépolis Chelsea in New York City, the “Night House” stars discussed the film and some of the reviews that have called it “one of the loudest horror movies ever made.”
Rebecca Hall plays Beth, a woman dealing with the sudden suicide of her husband Owen (Evan Jonigkeit), whom she can still somehow sense around her maze-like house as she discovers dark secrets about his past.
“The horror genre is reclaiming some history of females just being objects that scream,” Hall told Variety. “Now there’s a reclaiming of that to turn it into something more constructive and potent.

A founding member of the English folk rock act Mumford & Sons said today in a Medium post that he’s leaving the band in order to avoid tainting them with his personal political opinions.
Winston Marshall created a firestorm on social media in March when he tweeted support for journalist Andy Ngo’s book Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy, which examines the radical leftist group’s history and tactics.
The guitarist and banjo player subsequently took a brief break from the band in March. Although he says his group had “invited me to continue with them,” he has now decided to leave so that he could “speak freely without them suffering the consequences.”
Marshall insisted that he was not endorsing the far right by praising Ngo’s book, saying, “Nothing could be further from the truth. I condemn unequivocally all political extremism, be it of the Right or Left.

It’s tricky to pull off the kind of cryptic mystery labyrinth that “Broadcast Signal Intrusion” attempts, and Jacob Gentry’s film only works to a point — whatever point at which the viewer decides this thriller’s elusive menace is just too vague to generate sufficient urgency or suspense. As long as the promise outweighs the frustrating lack of payoff, however, it’s an intriguing and atmospheric puzzle, with “Glee” star Harry Shum Jr. chasing down a possible link between the titular phenomenon and his wife’s disappearance. The SXSW-premiering feature will be a viable item for home format sales; theatrical prospects are slimmer.

Two movies in, actor and writer/director Jim Cummings has certainly proven to be a talent full of idiosyncrasies. His debut, Thunder Road, made him someone to watch, while now, we have his sophomore feature to consider. Hitting this week, The Wolf of Snow Hallow sees Cummings turning his odd eye to genre, while very much keeping his voice intact. The result isn’t quite comedy and isn’t quite horror, but there’s a murder mystery element throughout that oddly fits his blackly comedic voice. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel or really push him forward as a storyteller, but as a lightly entertaining lark, it does the trick. The film is a mix of comedy and horror, centered on a series of murders in a small Utah mountain town. First, it’s a woman on vacation with her boyfriend. Then, it’s a ski instructor. And so on.

After reading Heather's recent 4/5 review for The Wolf of Show Hollow, I can't wait to check it out this weekend and we're excited to share with Daily Dead readers and exclusive track from the movie's soundtrack! Also due out on October 9th, the 20-track release was composed by Ben Lovett and will be available courtesy of Lakeshore Records:
Lakeshore Records is set to release The Wolf of Snow Hollow—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on October 9. Composed by Ben Lovett, the album is a strikingly orchestrated, multi-faceted work inspired by old school Bernard Herrmann-era suspense thrillers reflecting all the dimensions of the offbeat horror film—from darkly comedic to tension-fueled terror to oddball mystery caper. The album includes the newly reimagined cover version of “Little Red Riding Hood” originally performed by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs in 1966, and given a seductive and thoroughly haunting treatment by Lovett and indie artist Valen.

John Marshall (Jim Cummings), deputy sheriff of the small Utah skiing town of Snow Hollow, has a lot on his plate. He’s trying to maintain a relationship with his teenage daughter (Chloe East) while keeping his ex-wife at arm’s length; he’s attending AA meetings as a recovering alcoholic; and he’s essentially transitioning into running the police department himself even as his dad, Sheriff Hadley (Robert Forster), resists the notion of retirement.
And, oh yeah, the town is suddenly plagued by a series of brutal murder-mutilations that look like nothing less than the work of a werewolf.
That’s the premise of The Wolf of Snow Hollow, the second full-length feature from Cummings, who also writes and directs in addition to starring in the picture. If The Wolf of Snow Hollow sounds somewhat like a genre-flavored remake of Cummings’ debut, the micro-budget comedy-drama Thunder Road, that wouldn’t be wildly off-base.

During Mumford & Sons’ 13 years as a band, Marcus Mumford has rarely done extensive solo sit-down interviews. He likes his band to operate as a democracy writing songs, and doing interviews, together. But Mumford made an exception for our video series, “The Rolling Stone Interview,” which has recently included far-reaching conversations with Sheryl Crow, the Black Keys, and Chris Martin. Laid-back and reflective in his studio, Mumford traces how he formed one of the biggest bands in the world, all while only using acoustic instruments.

A knack for creepy atmospherics and individual scares goes a long way in the horror genre, and it takes “The Night House” pretty far. Though this tale of a new widow’s apparent haunting gets progressively lost in a narrative maze that’s complicated without being particularly rewarding, .
Rebecca Hall plays Beth, an upstate New York schoolteacher reeling from her husband of 14 years taking his life just a few days before we meet her. Completely blindsided by that event — particularly since as far as she knew, she was the only party in their marriage who suffered from depression — her immediate reaction is one of anger. Friends (notably Sarah Goldberg as colleague Claire) and neighbors (Vondie Curtis Hall’s Mel) offer support, but Beth fends them off, preferring to process bitter grief alone, with a drink or 10.

I have mentioned many many times that I absolutely love Christmas movies. And I mean any type of movie that has that great Christmas feeling – romantic comedy? Aslong as it’s set at Christmas, I’ll probably like it! So when horror and Christmas collide I am always first in line to watch it.
That said, I Trapped The Devil doesn’t exactly have a ‘Christmas spirit’ but it is set at Christmas, and the season does play a part in the movie. This actually had a bit of a Krampus feel to it at times (only with zero comedy). The ‘unhappy family Christmas but stuck with each other for now’ setting felt familiar. Perhaps strangely, the Christmas lights were something that stuck out while watching the movie. They add this brightly coloured...

Showing at this year’s Frightfest and being picked up by the Frightfest Presents label, The Wind has been well received at festivals across the globe. The last film I remember being based around the wind was The Happening, so The Wind doesn’t have much competition in those stakes.
The immediate impact The Wind had on me was that incredible score. It lead to this brief exchange with my partner after the first ten minutes or so of the movie:
My partner: “It’s a bit loud. I’ve got my headphones on and I can still hear it.”
Me: “But can you hear that score? I love it already. It’s amazing!”
My partner: “Just turn it down.”

“I Trapped the Devil” sounds like the title of a sermon or gospel song, but it’s a very literal-minded statement coming from the mouth of a leading character in writer-director Josh Lobo’s debut feature. This being a horror film, there’s a chance he’s even literally correct, rather than simply mad. A mixed-bag frightfest, IFC’s limited theatrical release doesn’t ultimately provide quite enough reward for a slow buildup. But it proves Lobo an able helmer (if one who could probably use a co-writer next time), eking decent atmospherics and good performances within a potentially claustrophobic premise.

Slow burn horror/thrillers require some very specific tools to proceed. Especially when the title is an independent one with limited money and time at its disposal, it’s easier thought of than executed. In the case of this week’s new release I Trapped the Devil, as novel concept ends up ever so slightly underwhelming. Something like this probably needed some stronger acting to keep you invested as the tension builds. Admittedly, the ending is solid, but not quite solid enough to make up for 70 or so minutes that’s come before it. This is far from a bad work, though I can’t bring myself to give it a full on recommendation. The movie is a mix of horror and thriller, told with a vast amount of patience. Set during Christmas, this is a look at a family reunion of sorts gone very wrong. When Matt (Aj Bowen...

Press Release: April 1, 2019: Lakeshore Records is set to release the soundtrack to the western supernatural thriller The Wind featuring an original score by Ben Lovett (The Ritual). Lovett’s score prominently features a pair of unique orchestral instruments seldom employed in film music: the bass flute, and the Nyckelharpa — a 16 string keyed violin that originated in the 15th century. Film scores are wonderful things. If you’re a fan of listening to scores as works on their own (as many film fans are known to do), divorced of the imagery, the music is still able to evoke emotion and excitement. And in the case of composer Ben Lovett’s score for “The Wind,” the music alone is enough to scare the crap out of you, without the need to see director Emma Tammi’s newest film.

Ben Lovett is a name that is fast becoming one of the genre composers you need to know. After bursting on the scene in 2007 with The Signal, Lovett’s recent years have shone particularly brightly amongst the horror crowd. Last year, his work on the Netflix film The Ritual set teeth on edge and spines […] The post Exclusive: Ben Lovett’s The Wind Score Shines in “We Shall Be Monsters” appeared first on Dread Central.

The doorway shot in John Ford’s “The Searchers” is one of the most influential cinematic frames of all time. But it’s not often we really parse the meaning of that iconic image, or seek to understand the way it has shaped our understanding of the western as an outdoorsy, masculine genre. Emma Tammi’s feature debut, a clever if low-boil horror-western, provokes such ruminations by being, essentially, a reverse of that shot: Instead of our eye following John Wayne walking off into a bright rectangle of scrubby land framed by the dark silhouette of a cabin doorway, “The Wind” imagines a Wild West where the man walks off into darkness and we stay inside the brightly lit cabin, where the women are.
That’s not to suggest there’s anything cozily domestic about Tammi’s vision of the feminine West. In fact, in “The Wind,” the agoraphobic lonesomeness...

The shadow of The Blair Witch Project certainly looms large over any Horror movie that ventures into the woods. Be it the countless Found Footage capers set inside a dark, treacherous, vegetative coated hell on earth or the other entries in the genre that feature young people lost at nature being dispatched by something gruesome and (mostly) unseen. So doing something different with the setting is a big ask but we’ll settle for just an interesting addition to the pile and while The Ritual is flawed and not exactly original, it boasts something many of its ilk do not…strong characters.
Starting with an unexpected but thoroughly interesting narrative set-up, The Ritual immediately grabs your attention with a ruthless moment of realistic nastiness, which leads onto the plot ahead. Based on the Horror novel by Adam Nevill, the film sees four guys reunite abroad for an ‘at one with nature’ holiday,...

Earlier this month I had the gracious opportunity to interview director Dan Bush – best known for 2007’s The Signal and 2014’s The Reconstruction of William Zero. Bush’s most recent work – The Vault – is a unique blend between the heist and supernatural thriller genres; set for a September 8th release. Starring James Franco & Francesca Eastwood, The Vault’s theatrical release is a space to watch.
Dan, going from a largely independent film maker, ‘The Vault’ seems to be moving you towards larger ‘blockbuster’ style features. Is this kind of filmmaking & releases a goal of yours to reach? Or would you prefer to stay at an independent level.
I just love making movies, I’ll make a blockbuster if someone wants to give me a budget anywhere in the world. However, I do believe that limitations make us better filmmakers. With all the things you have to consider when making a bigger movie: the unions,...

Jacob Gentry's retro futuristic, time-tripping noir, Synchronicity (review), was one of my favourite films that emerged out of last year's festival circuit, and now that the film is out for the world to see, we thought we'd get the director on line to chat about the movie.

Written and directed by Jacob Gentry, Synchronicity is an ambitious neo-noir time travel yarn that feels like a companion piece to Gentry’s first sci-fi feature, The Signal (which he co-directed with David Bruckner and Dan Bush). Both deal with fractured timelines to a degree, but it's his latter that proves Gentry’s keen ability to manipulate popular tropes all while creating a complex and intricate story. The film takes a bit of time to find its footing, but when it does, that’s when Synchronicity evolves into something rather special. On par with films like Timecrimes, Predestination or even Primer to a degree, Synchronicity once again proves that you don’t need a huge budget to create a compelling cinematic experience.

Late in Jacob Gentry’s thought-provoking but clumsy sci-fi time bender, Synchronicity, one character says to the other: “You have the power to cross the universe in an instant… All the things you could accomplish, all the questions you could answer, and you just want to get laid.” That monologue synthesizes the most important aspect of the latest crop of time travel movies: they’re all rooted in primal concerns. Like last year’s underrated Time Lapse, Synchronicity centrally revolves around the way a relationship feeds into a headier concept — in this case, time travel.
Unfortunately, even by the end when all the twists have been revealed that explain that central relationship, it still just doesn’t make sense. But even if Synchronicity doesn’t succeed on its own merits as a story, it’s another example of the possibilities of low-budget sci-fi alongside recent successes like Coherence and The One I Love.

The Signal director Jacob Gentry returns to screens with his new sci-fi film Synchronicity. And while Chad McKnight, Aj Bowen, and Michael Ironside may top the cast it seems immediately apparent that the fantastic retro score by Ben Lovett is every bit as much a character in the film. Daring physicist Jim Beale has invented a machine that can fold space-time and ruthless corporate tycoon Klaus Meisner will stop at nothing to get it. When Jim uses the machine to tear open the fabric of the universe, a rare Dahlia appears from the future. But in order to keep the rights to his invention he must prove that it works by finding the flower's identical match in the present. Jim soon discovers that the Dahlia...
