An upcoming Netflix/BBC limited series about real-life tragedy has added some well-known stars to its cast.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Patrick J. Adams, Merritt Wever, and Connor Swindells are the latest actors to join the cast of Lockerbie.
The six-part series will center around the December 1988 terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight 103 from Frankfurt to Detroit.
The flight was bombed 38 minutes after take-off, exploding over Lockerbie, Scotland, and killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members.
“It was the worst-ever terror attack on British soil and the first major one on U.S. citizens,” Netflix and the BBC explained in a press release.
The outlets went on to reveal that the series will center around the attack and the ensuing investigation, a collaborative effort between American and Scottish intelligence agencies.
“The six-part series is based on the real events surrounding the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and the joint Scottish-u.

Is there a hit from the past decade more widely imitated than “Homeland”? Perhaps that’s because the spy serial’s action-packed appeal seems easily replicable, even without a character as indelible as Carrie Mathison. Building relatable characters is hard, but ratcheting up tension is easy. Right?
Epix’s new series “Deep State” creates tense situations that don’t quite hit home — because, artfully directed and grimace-inducingly violent as those situations may be, they’re happening to people from whom we feel a strange remove. On “Deep State,” Mark Strong’s Max Easton is called back into the field as an MI6 agent to course-correct a failing mission in the Middle East. In so doing, he’s called away from his bucolic family life in France — including a wife who knows less than she might and who takes it upon herself to learn what her husband’s been up to.

There has been little news on Tobe Hooper’s Djinn since we saw the first trailer in January, 2012. However, the movie is screening at Adff later this month and a new trailer has been released.
“Desperate to put the traumatic loss of their young child behind them, newlywed couple Khalid and Salama flee New York, back to their home in the UAE.
Unbeknown to the couple, their new home in luxury apartment block, Al Hamra, was built on the site of an old abandoned fishing village of the same name. Legend has it that the village was abandoned after manevolant beings haunted its inhabitants.
Unsettled by her new surroundings and the eerie hallways of Al Hamra, Khalid worries his wife is failing to battle her personal demons — but could it be something far more sinister?”

It's here. No, not Carol Anne's TV People but the trailer for Tobe Hooper's latest chiller, "Djinn," a horror film based on the Arabic myth of the genie, a supernatural creature that, in this case, is far more dangerous than any earworms incurred from Disney's "Aladdin."
"Djinn" is an interesting beast, for sure. It's full of those age-old horror tropes that Hooper fans are well-acquainted with, like a haunted abode, angry supernatural forces, and a creepy stalker slash pretty lady who has some undue interest in the contents of a woman's uterus.
On the other hand, it's based on the ancient myth of the djinn, a being straight outta Arabic myths and even mentioned in the Koran, and the movie was filmed entirely in the United Arab Emirates.
On the surface, it's your typical horror film. Khalid (Khalid Laith) and Salama (Razane Jammal) are a young couple returning home...

That “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” street cred is still serving Tobe Hooper pretty well, though the director hasn’t really done a whole lot of note in a while. The only film of his I’ve seen since was 2004′s “Toolbox Murders”, which I liked, though it really wasn’t anything innovative. He’s also directed some episodes of the cable horror show “Masters of Horror”, but he’s been pretty quiet since. Hooper’s latest in over 6 years is the desert-set “Djinn”. I don’t recognize any of the faces in the cast, but setting a horror movie in one of those ridiculously opulent Middle Eastern hotels should go a long way. Check out the first extended trailer for Tobe Hooper’s “Djinn” below. An Emirati couple return home from a trip and discover that their new apartment has been built on a site that is home to some malevolent beings.

American horror master Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Poltergeist) has contributed substantially to modern classic scarefests and what we consider to be a the standard American horror canon, so it’s interesting that his latest film, Djinn, was filmed entirely in the United Arab Emirates and uses a menace straight out of Arab folklore and Islamic teachings. The film follows “an Emirati couple (played by Khalid Laith and Razane Jammal) return from a trip to the United States only to discover that their new apartment has been built on a site that is home to some malevolent beings.” Seriously, everybody needs to put some time into investigating just what their homes are built on. But Djinn might be encountering something even more terrifying than issues of architecture – Styd reported just last week that the film might not see the light of day, as rumors held that “someone close to Abu Dhabi’s royal family has...

I'm not looking to kick up any political dust here, but this is quite an intriguing trailer. Horror master Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist) shot a film in the United Arab Emirates last year called Djinn, about a couple who return from a trip to the Us to discover that their apartment is haunted by a malevolent being. There were recent reports that distributor Imagenation Abu Dhabi was going to shelf the film for being "politically subversive", but new reports say it's still on track to be released this year. Italian site MovieSushi (via Styd) found the first long promo trailer, and it's honestly rather boring. Take a look! Watch the first lengthy promo trailer for Tobe Hooper's Djinn, originally via MovieSushi: An Emirati couple (played by Khalid Laith and Razane Jammal) return from a trip to the United States only to discover that their new apartment has...

Tbreak is reporting that Imagenation is disputing claims of bribery to bury Tobe Hooper's latest genre offering, Djinn, a supernatural horror flick that stars Khalid Laith, Razane Jammal, Aiysha Hart, Carole Abboud, Paul Luebke, and May El Calamawy. "These rumours are unfounded. 'Djinn' is in active post-production, and Image Nation looks forward to releasing the film in theatres later this year. As for offers, there have been no formal offers were made for 'Djinn'," says a statement from the company. In addition, Movie Sushi landed a 4-minute long trailer for the flick that sounds like an Arabic ripoff of Poltergeist, "The story follows a young Emirati couple who return home from the U.S. to discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to the malevolent beings known as "djinn.""...

Watching these old horror icons continue to fail is starting to get depressing. Tobe Hooper - the man behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Poltergeiest - is the latest struggling with a genre film. Last March Hooper got behind te camera for Djinn, a supernatural horror flick that stars Khalid Laith, Razane Jammal, Aiysha Hart, Carole Abboud, Paul Luebke, and May El Calamawy. Sounding like an Arabic ripoff of Paranormal Activity and Poltergeist, "The story follows a young Emirati couple who return home from the U.S. to discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to the malevolent beings known as "djinn."" With the feature in post-production, news out of Italy (Movie Sushi) is that there are major problems. You can read a translation inside and dig on a trio of new images.

Tobe Hooper's latest film, Djinn, is facing some problems getting released, says Italian web site Movie Sushi.
Hooper shot the horror pic early last year in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) for Imagenation Abu Dhabi. Khalid Laith and Razane Jammal star in the thriller about a couple who return home from the U.S. only to find their apartment is haunted by a malevolent spirit.
Djinn has been completed for a number of months now. A trailer was shown around the Toronto International Film Festival and the aim was to premiere the film at the Dubai International Film Festival, however, Movie Sushi has received word the studio's head might shelve the film. Head inside for more details along with a new image.

British actor Mem Ferda (Legacy) has provided some gory details on his upcoming film, The Devil's Double. To be released by Lionsgate in theatres July 27th, 2011, The Devil's Double is described both as biopic and as a gangland thriller, set in the harsh desert climes of Baghdad.
At recent showings, The Devil's Double has shocked audiences with a specific scene involving a brutal slaying, at a relaxing garden party. Ferda's character Kamel Hannah, a real life bodyguard of Saddam Hussein, upset Uday, Hussein's eldest son. And before you can shield your eyes, Hannah is disemboweled on the big screen, in graphic splashes of blood red.
Ferda says of the scene: "It was one of the most difficult scenes of my life...one minute I’m standing drunk on top of a table, laughing maniacally and spraying machine gun fire...the next moment my guts are spilled all over the place...

The Devil’s Double is Directed by Lee Tamahori and Stars Dominic Cooper, Ludivine Sagnier, Raad Rawi, Philip Quast, Mimoun Oaissa, Khalid Laith, Dar Salim, and Nasser Memarzia.

The Devil’s Double is directed by Lee Tamahori and also stars Ludivine Sagnier, Raad Rawi, Mem Ferda, Dar Salim, Khalid Laith and Pano Masti. It screened at Sundance earlier this year and reports that I’ve seen are looking good. We’ve no UK release date as yet but it hits Us cinemas 29th July.

When you hear that a new horror film is coming from the man who directed Poltergeist (the one who isn’t Steven Spielberg), the hope is that the cast he attracts will be strong actors and not just pretty faces with the ability to scream. Fortunately, and solid talent has just signed on for Djinn. Variety is reporting that Khalid Laith (The Devil’s Double) and Razane Jammal (Carlos) have signed onto the forthcoming, Middle East-set horror film. They’ll star as two people returning from a vacation in the United States who encounter a haunting in their home from mean-spirited beings. Laith and Jammal don’t have a lot of work under their belts, but the work they do have shines. Laith was sharp in The Devil’s Double – the movie about a man forced to be one of Saddam’s son’s body double – and Jammal did well even in a smaller role in Carlos...

“The Devil’s Double” tests the limits of just how much a film can get away with when it’s based on a true story. It’s as if the filmmakers decided that there’d been enough pensive, measured films about Iraq and it was about time someone went completely, insanely over the top.
