Deborah Curtis, who spent more than a decade at American Express, has joined the Endeavor-owned hospitality firm On Location Experiences as chief marketing officer.

We salute 50 of the finest contemporary films with budgets of less than $10million. Did your favourite make the list…?
In this age of multi-million dollar blockbusters and eye-watering fees paid to some actors, you may forget we’re in an age of austerity. However, for the vast majority of the film industry, there is no huge vat of money, nor has there ever been. But this hasn’t stopped some of the finest films of recent years being made on a relative shoe-string, and in some cases, quite literally with a shoe-string.
I reckon filmmaking thrives at the sharp end, and low budgets mean more creative ideas, and as a result, more engaging films. To prove this, here is a list of what I consider to be the finest 50 contemporary films made for under $10 million. There is a breathtaking array of recognisable genre pictures in here, too, with budgets rangin...

- Everyday now (and all the way up until the start of the Toronto film festival), we'll be uploading a daily trailer of a film worth checking out at the fest. Today we first go with the obvious - a film that I adored at Cannes and which gets a North American preem is: Anton Corbijn's Control. While The Weinstein Company haven't yet released their domestic trailer (the film gets a September 26 release guys - time to crack this out to the public), so the trailer we've chosen is from Momentum Pictures (the U.K distributor). To access the great trailer scroll down and click the poster image, for those who want to know more they can continue reading below. Filmed in black and white, this is based on (the widow of Ian Curtis) Deborah Curtis' Touching From a Distance, this is a biopic of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis.

- It was my favorite film of its section (Director’s Fortnight) and it probably finds itself in my top 3 viewings for the entire slate I took in at Cannes – apparently many more have liked it and many more will get to see it. After winning the Cicae Art & Essai prize for best film, the "Regards Jeunes" Prize awarded to the best first or second feature film and the Europa Cinemas Label prize for best European film in the sidebar, Anton Corbijn's Control most recently received a “special mention” for the Camera d’Or – a festival cross-section prize given to a first time director. We at Ioncinema.com have been tracking the film from its first mention and are looking forward to further covering the film in its theatre release stage – this will be handled by the The Weinstein Company who’ve acquired the film for the North American market.

- While many of my predictions have gone astray for what was going to be showcased at this year’s Cannes – one selection and section that I was bang on was the Ian Curtis biopic Control – it was announced as opening film for the Cannes sidebar Directors Fortnight. And speaking of bang - Bono, members of New Order and Depeche Mode (all artists who’ve worked with Anton Corbijn (the film’s director) over the years will most likely open the May 17 gala screening with a concert gig. Variety mentions that they might perform at the opening-night party alongside Sam Riley, the actor who plays Curtis and sings some of the songs in the film with his own rock band. Filmed in black and white, this is based on (the widow of Ian Curtis) Deborah Curtis' Touching From a Distance, this is a biopic of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis.

I’ll let folks debate the merits of the recent Johnny Cash and Ray Charles features but this July there are a couple of legendary singers that might get a screen treatment worth the brouhaha. Commencing next week we have Todd Haynes embarking on his Bob Dylan journey with I'm not There and just a couple of weeks back Anton Corbijn started filming his directorial feature film debut with Control. Both will most likely be unveiled to the world during the same week at - Cannes 07. Today we received a first look at actor Sam Riley as Joy Division’s Ian Curtis. Fans of Curtis
