Twenty-five years ago today, Todd Haynes’ impressionistic glam-rock fantasy Velvet Goldmine hit movie theaters, offering audiences a glimpse of a short-lived era of rock defined by artists like David Bowie, Marc Bolan, and Roxy Music. Told as a Citizen Kane-like investigation into the disappearance of fictional pop star Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), the nonlinear film captured an energy and aesthetic vibrance that remains unparalleled. Its stacked cast also included Christian Bale as glam-rock fan-turned-journalist Arthur Stuart, Ewan McGregor as Iggy Pop-esque rocker Curt Wild, and Toni Collette...

The Last Waltz Tour, a live celebration of The Band’s 1976 farewell concert, will return to the road this fall. The all-star tour first debuted in 2017 with Warren Haynes, Don Was, and Jamey Johnson atop the bill. All three of those artists return this time to re-create key moments from The Band’s San Francisco concert, which was filmed for Martin Scorsese’s 1978 movie — a.k.a. the greatest concert film of all time.
Presented by Robbie Robertson, his son Sebastian Roberston, and Keith Wortman of Blackbird Presents, the tour includes Kathleen Edwards,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details from Thursday’s live eviction on CBS’ Big Brother.
Big Brother 24 player Kyle Capener, who earned the nickname “KKKyle” on social media this summer for language that was deemed racist by viewers, was evicted Thursday from the CBS reality show.
Capener, an unemployed 29-year-old from Bountiful, Utah, drew ire by making fun of a fellow player’s Brazilian accent, and telling another houseguest that his hat looked like it belonged to a Filipino rice farmer.
But his biggest breach was expressing concern that an alliance was forming among the house’s Bipoc players that was similar to last year’s Cookout, the all-Black alliance that led to an historic win by Xavier Prather. Though Capener never directly said that he and his fellow allies should form a “white” alliance, he was shown in Wednesday’s episode telling fellow white players on Day 39 that “I...

In a rare move for the Season 24 “Big Brother” house guests, there was no back door eviction this week, but somehow the week was still full of surprises and a strategic player was still sent packing during Thursday night’s episode.
Indy Santos was evicted in a 7-1 vote after being placed on the block by Head of Household Taylor Hale. The vote came as a bit of a shock to Santos, as she realized that several of the house guests she’d been closest to sent her home, including Alyssa Snider and Jasmine Davis.
It’s been a 180-degree shift for Hale, who started her “Big Brother” journey as a major target in the house. Now she’s part of a seven-person alliance called The Leftovers that has been running show for the last several weeks.
After Hale won the Hoh competition, she struggled to decide who she’d...

Big Brother 24 spoilers about the upcoming Veto Meeting seem to have surfaced on the live feeds, even though there is still some time for plans to change.
Taking a step back from the Power of Veto spoilers, though, there were a lot of additional big moments that have gone down inside of the Big Brother house.
Following the eviction of Daniel Durston, the house had an Endurance Challenge, the new Hoh hosted a Nomination Ceremony, and two people were placed on the block. Then, a new Veto Competition was played.
Taylor Hale won the Hoh Competition, giving her power and safety. Taylor then nominated Terrence Higgins and Indy Santos for eviction.
The main target for Taylor has been Terrence this week, as she is ready to send him to a meeting with host Julie Chen Moonves.

It’s been an eventful first week in the Big Brother house, and it’s ended with contestant Paloma Aguilar exiting the series “due to a personal matter.” At the top of the Thursday, July 14, live eviction episode, host Julie Chen said, “An unexpected turn of events has now changed everything.” The episode then showed clips of Aguilar talking about her struggles with anxiety and lack of sleep. She eventually entered the diary room and did not return to the house. Fellow contestant Daniel Durston, the current Head of Household, gathered everyone in the living room and read a note from production. “Due to a personal matter, Paloma will no longer be continuing in the Big Brother game,” he read. “She wanted to pass along that she loves you all and wishes you all the best.” Due to Aguilar leaving the game, Chen revealed to the houseguests that this week...

The “Big Brother” house guests were supposed to be subject to their first live elimination on Thursday night, but one player’s surprise exit from the competition changed the game.
Paloma Aguilar left the CBS competition the contestants were told. Her exit eliminated the threat of the Backstage Pass twist, meaning that all 15 remaining contestants get to stay another week.
Five contestants were up for elimination this week between the two nominated by the Head of Household as well as the three other contestants — Aguilar, Brittany Hoopes and Alyssa Snider — who were chosen as part of the Backstage Pass twist.
Had it not been for Aguilar’s exit, it would have been a surprise battle between either Terrence Higgins or Taylor Hale (one of whom would have been eliminated by the other house guests) and Brittany Hoopes — who was the Backstage Passholder who fans voted off. Since Aguilar was another of the Backstage Passholders,...
