Fresh off their Oscar wins for "Everything Everywhere All At Once," Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (colloquially known as Daniels) have a new project on the horizon, and it's not the indie project you might expect. The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed a story from One Take News revealing that the pair are set to direct at least one episode of the upcoming "Star Wars" project "Skeleton Crew."
It's currently unknown whether Daniels will be behind the camera for just one episode of "Skeleton Crew" or multiple chapters of the Disney+ series, which is executive produced by "Star Wars" team Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau along with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" filmmaker Jon Watts. "Skeleton Crew" was first unveiled in May of 2022 at Star Wars Celebration, where its crew described a series that takes place around the same time as "The Mandalorian" and features a group of kid heroes. It looks like Lucasfilm is by no means prepared to pump the brakes on "Star Wars," even if it is merely limited to the small screen for the time being. Case in point, when we crunch the numbers, it seems at least four live-action shows set in a galaxy far, far away will be filming in 2023. As for when they all will arrive on Disney+? That's another question entirely. Still, that's a whole lot of TV for a franchise that's largely existed as movies for most of its lifespan.
The news was revealed by Variety and, more specifically, Lynwen Brennan, the executive vice president of Lucasfilm. They were discussing how Wales has become a bit of a hub for the studio as of late, with projects like "Willow" making use of the country. Wales has long been regarded as a place of myth and magic – its national emblem is the dragon, after all, and it has strong links with the legend of King Arthur. So, it is fitting that Lucasfilm should have chosen it as the location for the Disney+ fantasy series “Willow.” The production was based at Dragon Studios in Bridgend, South Wales, and filmed at 32 locations across the country.
The Celtic nation has provided the locations for many iconic movie scenes over the decades, including the Bat Cave in “The Dark Knight Rises,” The Slaughtered Lamb pub in “American Werewolf in London,” and the castle in the opening scene of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
Wales also hosted part of the shoot for Ron Howard’s original 1988 “Willow” movie, based on a story by George Lucas, and starring Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley and Warwick Davis. The latter two actors reprise...

Warner Bros’ Dune and Disney’s Encanto scored a leading four wins each at the 20th annual Ves Awards, which were handed out tonight at the Beverly Hilton.

Dune also took trophies for Model, Effects Simulations and Compositing & Lighting. Even though the film opened day-and-date on HBO Max, it still was able to thrive in theaters with a $41 million opening weekend that exceeded expectations and led to a quick greenlight for a sequel weeks later.
Encanto, from directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, danced away with the top toon honor — Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature — and also won for Animated Character, Created Environment and Virtual Cinematography.

Female-directed Star Wars movies are on the way, according to Lucasfilm general manager Lynwen Brennan, and one need only look to the appointment of Victoria Mahoney as Episode IX‘s second unit director.

It’s called Celebration for a reason. Back in April 1999, when “The Phantom Menace” was about to become the first new “Star Wars” film to hit theaters in 16 years, Lucasfilm launched Star Wars Celebration to further stoke the fan fires (and to keep them rejoicing over a relaunched franchise). With over 20,000 attendees, the fan-facing convention was an immediate hit — but the popular event came and went, depending on what was then a very fickle “Star Wars” release schedule.
Today, with the “Star Wars” universe rapidly expanding with all the heat and mass of a black hole, the conventions have become annual affairs that bring fans together to celebrate their shared obsession with George Lucas’ decades-long creation. (Already, Star Wars Celebration Orlando is selling out tickets for 2017.)

Amid all of the Star Wars fun at this past weekend's Celebration, there was also a small tease that hinted at the future of the Indiana Jones franchise. At a panel called "The Art of Storytelling," Ilm's Lynwen Brennan had an interesting little tidbit that fans will likely find worthy of parsing:

One of the most anticipated elements of the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be the debut of the 'Hulkbuster Armor,' a new Iron Man suit creation of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) designed to take on Mark Ruffalo's Incredible Hulk when he gets out of control.
This weekend, a leaked concept art sketch from Hot Toys about toy tie-ins for the movie has gone online at CavernadoHulk and showcases the full scale of the creation. While the robot Ultron stands at 8' tall and The Hulk is at 8'5, the Hulkbuster armor stands at a full 11' and is several times Hulk's size in terms of volume.
The concept art deliberately keeps the look of Ultron, Vision and the Hulkbuster armor under wraps - blocking the design itself, showing only a silhouette.
Meanwhile the Hulk himself will sport a new look in the 'Avengers' sequel thanks to Muse,...

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Ilm President Lynwen Brennan were at a press event last night to promote the launch of the opening of Industrial Light & Magic's new London studio in Soho. IGN managed to catch up with the latter to talk about two of their most highly anticipated projects, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars Episode VII. When asked about how they're developing the Hulk in the sequel after their incredible work in The Avengers, Brennan described the CGI character as a, "really big creative challenge for us," before adding: "Getting that personality is very important to Joss [Whedon], and it’s very important that it’s driven by Mark [Ruffalo]’s performance. We’ve developed a new capture system, which we call Muse, which really captures the actor’s performance - it allows us to combine different takes as well. We’re using it on Warcraft, and we furthered the development on Avengers.

The plan according to Ilm President Lynwen Brennan is to move in by early April at the latest, and she told The Hollywood Reporter that, “It will be a full service studio. We’ll have an art department, previsualization, and an entire end-to-end visual effects and computer graphics pipeline.”
The reason for the move is to make it easier for them to work on J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII and Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, two movies which will be filmed at London’s Pinewood Studios. However, they aren’t the only reason according to Brennan, who added: “Ilm will be working on not only Lucasfilm projects,...
