Idw Publishing is staying in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles business. The comic book company has renewed its licensing deal with Paramount, which has held the rights to the classic characters since 2009.
Under the renewed deal, Idw plans on releasing multiple titles in honor of the property’s 40th anniversary. Among them is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution, a sequel to The Last Ronin, which took place in an alternate future and was based on a long-lost outline from the 1980s written by Tmnt creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. The new installment arrives March 6.
”We are delighted to continue our relationship with Idw Publishing for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and graphic novels,” said Lourdes Arocho, SVP, licensing & publishing, consumer products, Paramount. “After 40 years, there are still so many more stories to be told, and we can’t wait for everyone to see what’s next.

The Eisner-bait comic, Strange Adventures, gets a new DC label to match its content.
Strange Adventures, the comic so hotly anticipated that DC is already making a show about it before it comes out, is in for some changes. The book, written by Tom King, with art from Mitch Gerads and Doc Shaner and letters from Clayton Cowles, is being upgraded from a regular DC comic to the company's prestige mature readers format, Black Label.
"As Strange Adventures was coming together, we had to take a step back and look at what made the most sense for the project," said the project's editor, Jamie S. Rich. "Since its tone and themes are more in the vein of Mister Miracle than, say, Tom King’s work on Batman, we decided that it made more sense to give Strange Adventures its own space, where Tom, Mitch, Doc, and Clayton...

Matt Wagner is one of the most respected creators in comic books today. His status is legendary as the man that brought fans beloved characters like Mage and Grendel. His work on Batman over the years has been met with appreciation and reverence.
It should be noted that I’m a huge Wagner fan and devotee of his Grendel franchise, so this article includes plenty of my own opinions, which as the sole editor, writer and creator of Legions of Gotham, reflect that of the website.
Recently, Wagner had signed-on to do the cover and interior art for the upcoming Batman #54. The issue features a story about Batman and Dick Grayson…about father and son. A nice touch was the inclusion of Wagner’s son Brennan on colors. Brennan and Matt have been working together as a father and son team, so it was a special treat for the fans.

It can be hard to praise things for being small without sounding condescending.
Oh, what a quaint house!
Aren’t you a darling little man!
What an adorable book!
I’m going to try to avoid that pitfall today. But what I like best about this graphic novel by writer Jamie S. Rich and artist Megan Levens is that it’s not trying to do too much. Ares & Aphrodite tells the story of one couple — well, one potential couple — and how they got together, if, eventually, they do get together enough for that to be a story.
In a world of comics that seem to want to be widescreen media-spanning epics, Ares & Aphrodite aspires to be a really good small movie, the kind made for a TV channel that churlish men avoid or that plays in that one theater two towns over. It’s about two people, their professional connection,...
