Before she sang “Galavaaant” across the castles and fields of England, actress Karen David was filming in London for Atul Malhotra’s Brit Indie film Amar, Akbar & Tony. Amar, Akbar & Tony are three best friends who all are from different backgrounds. A new British independent feature – Amar Akbar & Tony by director Atul Malhotra, will be screening at the Mumbai Film Festival this October. The bitter-sweet romantic comedy has been listed in the Film India Worldwide category, and will be showing on 18th and 19th October, marking its first foray on the festival circuit.
Amusing, ironic and stark in turn, Malhotra’s Amar, Akbar & Tony, explores the rigid social taboos that can affect and distort the young and the families they interact with. It does so through the eyes of three childhood friends looking for love in multicultural London. Interracial romance, violence, sexuality, family, love and loss are themes that are explored and shared by the three main protagonists – Amar, Akbar and Tony, over a ten-year period – as the trio deal with the absurdities and unpredictability of life.

Her upcoming Ep Dust to Stars comes out on the 23rd so putting on her singing avatar she shot the videos for the tracks, planned a concert tour for the album, then back to her acting hat auditioned and won the part in a play in California and Oh Yeah… in the middle of all of that got married! As she says it has been manic but she loves it! During a little break, we were able catch up with Karen to find out more about her work on the film and her upcoming album! The interview was more a conversation and was so fabulous and well… long we had to divide it into two parts!
