Hollywood star Will Smith invited the iconic hip-hop duo Salt-n-Pepa on his Class of 1988 podcast for a chat about their ascension towards rap superstardom in the 1980s, and to reflect on how he was rather smitten with Sandra “Pepa” Denton, 57, at the time.
On the episode, Smith and the rap star reminisced about the “one and only date” they went on together, and how “terrified” the Fresh Prince himself was throughout the experience, reports People magazine.
Smith said that they went on a date “sometime in early 1988” after he had been crushing on the performer for quite some time.
“I always had a thing for Sandy, but she was always dating somebody else,” the Grammy winner shared. “Now, she was single. We were both going to be in Los Angeles at the same time, so Imma shoot my shot.”

Back in the late '80s and early '90s, the success of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" skyrocketed Sir Patrick Stewart into newfound fame. Eventually, that fame would reach even greater heights after he took on the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" film franchise. But that wouldn't be until 2000. Years before that, as "The Next Generation" was coming to an end, Stewart suddenly found himself venturing away from the final frontier into new territory.
As Stewart recounted in his recently released memoir, "Making It So," his pop culture fame resulted in many wanting to see the actor play against type and shed his "Shakespearean eloquence," as he puts it. That included the honor of hosting "Saturday Night Live," a coveted opportunity that isn't afforded to every actor out there. Unfortunately, when Stewart looks back on the...

Choosing a Halloween costume is pretty much like choosing a new identity: it's one night to be whoever you want, and what's more fun than pretending you're a famous musician? Of course you could go more current and channel Beyoncé's "Renaissance" World Tour costumes, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, or Justin Bieber, but going back in time can be really exciting too - especially when it comes to paying homage to an iconic musician.
As far as musician Halloween costumes go, you'll be in good company. In 2017, Kim Kardashian and her sister Kourtney channeled Madonna and Michael Jackson with spot-on looks, while both Demi Lovato and Kim went as Selena Quintanilla in 2017. Beyoncé herself has often favored famous musician costumes for Halloween, dressing up with Blue Ivy and Tina Knowles as Salt-n-Pepa in 2016 and going as Toni Braxton in 2018. Other stars have paid homage to legends like Amy Winehouse,...

There are a lot of firsts associated with Mc Sha-Rock, hip-hop's "mother of the mic." The Bronx, NY, native is the first female Mc in hip-hop history and the first to sign a record deal; the first woman to battle rap; and she was among the first to spit hip-hop rhymes on national television (appearing on "Saturday Night Live" in 1981 when she was pregnant with her first child). The original member of Funky 4, which later became the Funky 4 + 1, didn't just contribute to the history of women in hip-hop - she's the blueprint.
Despite her pioneering efforts in the '70s, Sha-Rock, born Sharon Green, has hardly been given her just due as a hip-hop trailblazer. The "That's the Joint" rapper also says she was never properly compensated for her music in her '80s heyday, as she, along with other hip-hop pioneers, later sued her former label Sugar Hill Records...

Non-Londoners might think of the U.K. capital as a single city, the perceived interchangeability of its regions and locations evident in many a notionally London-set but geographically manic film where characters stroll from Chelsea Bridge to the heart of Soho in a matter of minutes. Residents know that its quadrants are so disparate as to be whole separate ecosystems, with the Thames River that separates north from south London a virtual equator running through the city.
Those who have toured the Big Smoke via the movies — in particular, the idealized, exportable London of Working Title trifles and “Paddington” pictures — are largely familiar with the most leafy, genteel streets of the north and west, with the increasingly bourgeois east lately getting a look-in. But the diverse, dynamic neighborhoods of the south have received less than their due on screen, which is where Raine Allen-Miller’s delightful romantic comedy “Rye Lane” aims to set things right.

Well, she was dead. It was for two minutes, during which time she saw an ethnically ambiguous female God, then was resuscitated, having somehow survived that bus accident just two months ago.
But the heck with trying to make sense of any of that. “Gina Linetti’s back, baby,” and the Nine-Nine has nothing to worry about now… right?

Regina Hall and Lupita Nyong'o are the latest celebrities to go head to head on Lip Sync Battle, and they aren't afraid to take things to a whole new level (like, red room of pain level). During their heated episode, which aired on Spike on Nov. 2, Regina channels The Weeknd as she sings along to "Earned It," his hit song from Fifty Shades of Grey. In addition to entering the stage on a sex swing, Regina rocks The Weeknd's signature hairdo while working the stage with leather-clad dancers. CBS is going to the distance with three of its rookie series, ordering full seasons of Bull, Kevin Can Wait and MacGyver. The “back nine” pickups mean all three series’ will produce 22 episodes in their inaugural runs.

Turns out Ryan Reynolds win for best comedic performance at this year's MTV Movie Awards was just as over the top - in a good way - as the movie which earned him the honor. Reynolds' win Saturday for his starring role in Deadpool was preceded by a doubly surprising musical performance: A group of dancing Deadpools, and presenters Zac Efron and Seth Rogen, jamming along to Salt-n-Pepa's "Shoop" (a favorite of the comic book mercenary). "For starters, I'm really [glad] Amy Schumer didn't win. That would have been really weird with those dancers," Reynolds, 39, said in his acceptance speech.

Who could have ever guessed that Justin Timberlake would have gone from the gel-haired frontman of 'Nsync to the suave, comic frontman of our hearts?
No post-boy-band Timberlake endeavor has filled us with more joy than his friendship – and frequent collaborations – with Jimmy Fallon: his pal, comedic other-half and bromantic partner. From goofy video sketches to impromptu Beyoncé dance numbers, the dynamic duo are the ultimate example of People We Want to Be (and Be With).

Will Arnett kicked off his Lip Sync Battle with Alison Brie by – as host LL Cool J noted – "trying to answer that immortal question, 'Who Let the Dogs Out?'" Decked out in a purple track suit, the actor tackled Baha Men's canine-themed, Grammy-winning 2000 single, the only Top 40 hit to feature the lyric "flea-infested mongrel."
Arnett obscures his face with the microphone during the performance, possibly because he doesn't know all the lyrics. But his charisma wins out in the end. "You gotta be an incredible dancer," he tells...

“Lip Sync Battle” returned after a mid-season hiatus on Thursday and pitted “Lego Movie” stars Will Arnett and Alison Brie against each other. Batman and Unikitty went head-to-head for Jimmy Fallon’s favorite game that has been a huge hit for Spike since it premiered last April. “Arrested Development” actor Arnett kicked off the night by asking the audience “Who Let the Dogs Out?” When host LL Cool J quizzed him on what makes a winning lip sync performance, he said that you obviously need to be a great dancer and that he “moves like a gazelle.” Also Read: Alison Brie...

If we had Will Arnett's lip syncing skills, everything would be "awesome."
The funny man is taking faux singing to a whole new level while battling it out with Alison Brie in the upcoming episode of Lip Sync Battle.
Arnett's performance of The Lego Movie's "Everything Is Awesome" seems like it may be hard to beat – especially with his robotic, lego-like dance moves. (Even co-host Chrissy Teigen gets in on the fun!)
However, Brie gets down and dirty with her performance of Salt-n-Pepa's hit song "Shoop," making the competition very interesting.

Leave it to Will Arnett to prove once again that “Everything Is Awesome.” The “Lego Movie” actor brings the catchy song to the “Lip Sync Battle” stage in a new preview of Thursday’s episode of the hit Spike TV show. Arnett, decked out in construction gear and backed up by a troupe of similarly-dressed dancers, looks like he is bringing his A-game against his opponent, Allison Brie. See video: Alison Brie Slays Salt-n-Pepa's 'Shoop' in 'Lip Sync Battle' Preview (Video) “Lip Sync Battle” has proven to be a major success for Spike. Damn, girl! Alison Brie's got major moves. Lip Sync Battle returns this week after a month-long hiatus, and judging from Brie's killer performance of Salt-n-Pepa's "Shoop," the musical smackdowns will be better than ever. In the preview, the Community and Mad Men star crushes her rendition of the 1993 hit with impeccable lip-syncing skills and even more impressive dance moves. During a particularly racy moment, Brie sways her hips while dipping extra low to the ground—a true indication that this isn't her first time at the hip-hop rodeo! Co-hosts Chrissy Teigen and LL Cool J rock out right alongside the 32-year-old, but it's her competitor and BoJack...

"Lip Sync Battle" is returning to Spike with new episodes this Thursday, and what better way to celebrate than a new clip previewing actress Alison Brie's domination of Salt-n-Pepa classic "Shoop"?
Though it's not the full song -- fans will have to wait for the episode to air to see that -- the clip still gives audiences a taste of Brie's impressive lip-syncing skills, and it seems that the petite performer has come to win. Brie makes it clear that she knows the song cold, mouthing the tongue-twisting lyrics with ease, and throwing in some sexy dance moves for good measure. (This isn't the first time Salt-n-Pepa has appeared on the show, either; the duo came to compete on the show themselves, going head-to-head on a previous episode of the program.)
If this opening shot is any indication, Brie isn't going to hand over the "Lip Sync Battle" championship...

Salt-n-Pepa duked it out on Spike's Lip Sync Battle, transforming into modern pop divas and referencing some of their musical inspirations in an amiable battle between the longtime friends and collaborators.
To kick things off, Salt went pop-rock, strutting and headbanging her way through Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone." "Who knew you were a pop diva?" commented host LL Cool J following Salt's performance.

Maybe the "Lip Sync Battle" drama bar was just too high after Julianne Hough writhed to "I Just Had Sex" (in front of her brother!) and Stephen Merchant shoved a sock down his leather chaps to get extra "Dirrty." We had high hopes for Salt-n-Pepa's May 21 battle -- and they were Ok, but they did not push it far enough. They did not talk about sex, baby. It was relatively bland.
Cheryl "Salt" James started Round 1 with Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone." Sandra "Pepa" Denton countered with Katy Perry's "Firework":
Too tame. Not nearly the crazy we've come to expect.
In Round 2, they both upped their games and brought in back-up dancers. Salt had a good run with "It's Tricky" by Run-d.M.C. but Pepa won with her very '70s version of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive." This round was more successful,...

This week's Lip Sync Battle is going to be a spicy one.

Denton looks extra fierce in a black minidress and impressively tall stilettos. She works the stage in a high-powered rendition of the hit pop song in an effort to out-lip-synch Cheryl "Salt" James.

On paper, a battle between former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson and muscle factory/actor Terry Crews would be a title bout on the level of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. However, instead of stepping into the ring, the two behemoths had a showdown Thursday night in a much-friendlier arena: Lip Sync Battle. In the opening round, Iron Mike busted out with the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction," while the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor countered with Run-d.M.C.'s "Sucker MCs."

Mike Tyson better watch out, because Terry Crews has some sweet lip-syncing skills. Spike released a preview of Crews’ performance of Run D.M.C’s “Sucker Mc’s” ahead of Thursday’s episode of “Lip Sync Battle,” in which the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star goes up against boxing’s former heavyweight champion of the world. Though Tyson proved himself a capable lip syncer in the preview of his performance of Salt-n-Pepa’s 1986 hit “Push It,” Crews appears to work the crowd into a frenzy with his mic skills, stage presence and white Adidas — a Run D.M.C. signature style mark. Mike Tyson can not only punch, he can push it (real good). Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he can dance so great or keep the mic up to his mouth — but the energy was on point. The former heavyweight champion of the world recently took his turn on Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle,” singing Salt-n-Pepa’s 1986 hit “Push It.” Tyson, in proper attire, threw punches and humped the air through the roughly 25-second clip. His competition was the equally physically imposing Terry Crews, who stars on Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Also Read: How Jimmy Fallon's 'Lip Sync Battle...

The 2015 Super Bowl is more than just cheese products, football and Tom Brady's smug mug. HitFix is watching all the commercials along with you, so get out your red pen: we're grading all the ads as they happen. Follow along, we'll start the tally at kickoff, 3:30pm Pst. -- Fine, it's not kickoff yet, but I half-wish the pterodactyl from the "Jurassic World" trailer would sweep down and pick up Pete Carroll. "Think it will scare the kids?" asks Bryce Dallas Howard's clueless-sounding character. Do You Think? More sweaty shots of Chris Pratt's half-scared, all-brutally handsome face. Nicole Richie's come a long way from The Simple Life.
Nicole Richie recently appeared on Oprah's Where Are They Now? to talk about her marriage and family life, including what she feels is the most difficult part of being married to Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden.
Obviously, Richie has come a long way from her The Simple Life persona as Paris Hilton's wild sidekick, having now been married to Madden for three and a half years. The couple has two children together, Harlow, 6, and Sparrow, 4.

Recently, I sat down with actor Sam Riley, who plays Diaval, Maleficent’s raven sidekick in the film. Check it out below!
Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficentrealizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever. It's morning round-up time, with brief thoughts on last night's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Trophy Wife" coming up just as soon as I know the Papa John... I didn't get to review last week's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" while out in California, but that one and this one continue the late season roll the show's been on, and now I'm sad we only have one more to go before the season's over. (That's the downside of Fox trying to avoid repeats.) "Unsolvable" had a perfect opening, with Holt teasing Peralta with the hula hoop information no one else would believe, and a perfect closing, with a very drunk Jake and Terry finally joining in on a Salt 'N' Pepa sing-along with Charles. In between was pretty swell, too. Terry and Jake are a combo the show hasn't used that much, simply because the show has such a wealth of supporting characters, but Terry's...
