Death Comes to Pemberley has continued BBC One's primetime ratings success, drawing an audience of 4.4m on Friday (December 27).
The Pd James adaptation, which serves as a follow-up to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, lost 1.2m viewers from Boxing Day's audience, showing 45 minutes later at 9pm.
However, its 20.1% share still comfortably beat ITV's sitcom Vicious, which pulled in 3.1m (13.9%) in the same slot (+1: 168.3k).
Earlier on BBC One, 3.82m tuned in for Miranda (16.2%), while a repeat of Christmas Day's Mrs Brown's Boys - which topped the December 25 ratings - attracted 2.94m at 10.30pm.
ITV's audience dropped significantly for rom-com Bridget Jones's Diary, which managed an audience of 1.47m (7.8%) at 9.30pm. A further 159.9k watched an hour later on ITV +1.
BBC Two's 7.30pm edition of University Challenge provided the channel's biggest ratings of the evening, with 1.68m watching (7.1%).
Idris Elba: King of Speed secured 1.31m viewers (5.6%) immediately after at 8pm.

Great Britain's rowers participated in a Henley Regatta with a twist yesterday (July 7), signing up to form the Monsters University Rowing Team.
The race coincided with the release of Disney/Pixar's new movie which reunites Monsters, Inc duo Mike and Sulley after more than 10 years away from the big screen.
Zac Purchase, Mark Hunter, Chris Bartley and Adam Freeman-Pask were enlisted by James Cracknell to race against Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club.
Oxford won the hotly-contested Boat Race earlier this year, but it was the Monsters University Team Gb foursome that came out on top in yesterday's special contest.
Cracknell said: "It's been a year since the public have really been able to get behind Team Gb so it's been great to get the boys together again on the water and race. Commiserations to the lads from Oxford and thanks for the race, it's a good job we won.

James Cracknell and his wife Bev Turner have opened up about his near-fatal bike accident in 2010 that pushed their family to breaking point. The Olympian-turned-tv star suffered severe frontal lobe damage after being hit by a truck during an endurance challenge in America, resulting in memory loss, a lack of empathy and a major personality change. Speaking about Touching Distance, the book he has written with his wife in which the couple each speak frankly about the lasting effects of the accident, Cracknell said: "The thing I really think has made the book better is that we didn't read each other's words until the end. "I'm quite glad [of that], it would have chipped away at my confidence because hers is much better than mine." (more)...

Ricky Gervais has once again persuaded his round-headed friend Karl Pilkington to embark on a new epic journey across the world. And this time he won’t be alone.
Actor Warwick Davis, star of Gervais’ sitcom “Life’s Too Short”, will accompany the often agitated Pilkington in “An Idiot Abroad: The Short Way Round”, two 1-hour Christmas specials in which they will follow in the footsteps of famous explorer Marco Polo from Italy to China.
The 500 mile journey takes the odd pairing from Venice to Eastern Europe to India and China as “they get stuck into different cultures and traditions, illuminated by Karl’s trademark observations about the world and Warwick’s varying experiences as a little person in different countries.”
The pairing of Pilkington and Davis is mouth-watering, especially as Karl’s previous time talking about the actor on the podcasts or when he spoke to him in the last series,...

Once the famous just fronted charity appeals. Now an increasing number are putting their weight behind political causes. Leo Benedictus investigates the rise of the celebrity activist

Olympic rower-turned-tv star James Cracknell has opened up about the devastating impact of his near-fatal road accident last year, revealing he is unable to be left alone with his children because of his injuries.
The gold medallist was filming a cycling programme for the Discovery Channel in the U.S. last July when he was knocked off his bike by a truck in Arizona.
He was treated for a fractured skull as well as bleeding and swelling on the brain, but made a good recovery.
Cracknell now suffers problems with concentration, memory and his temper, and reveals he has been advised not to be alone with his two young children, seven-year-old son Croyde and two-year-old daughter Kiki, in case he accidentally leaves them in harm's way.
He tells Britain's Radio Times, "I feel a bit useless. I can't help out."
Cracknell also admits his injuries have affected his relationship with his TV presenter wife Beverley Turner, who is currently pregnant with the couple's third child.
He adds, "I regret that the injury has had such an impact on everyone. Bev and I talk about nothing else, which takes the fun out of our relationship. It must be hard for her.
"I would say that if we didn't have kids we would have broken up. Aside from the fact that Bev is upset by the changes she sees in me, which I can't see in myself, my condition is constantly on our minds. You can never get away from it, and that's been really hard."...

British Olympic hero James Cracknell has suffered severe memory loss since cheating death in a bike accident in July but he still has something to celebrate - his wife is expecting their third child.
The rowing ace was filming a cycling programme for the Discovery Channel in the U.S. when he was hit by a truck in Arizona.
He has revealed the accident jolted his brain and he now suffers problems with concentration, memory and his temper - but Cracknell's recuperation was boosted with some good news when his wife Beverley Turner discovered she is pregnant.
The gold medal-winning sportsman tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "When the truck's wing mirror hit me on the back of the head some of the impact was absorbed by my helmet... Although I was very disorientated and agitated for some time, just knowing I'd been hit by a truck made me feel lucky to be alive...
"There is a crucial window of three weeks from the accident to regaining consistent memory. Within that window a full recovery is on the cards; outside of that and there are no guarantees. I have 'islands of memory' but no consistency, so there are no guarantees. I can't drive and will have to be reassessed.
"I can't drink for between six months and a year as the neurons in my brain rejoin. I will never be able to work at the same pace as before or be able to grasp complex theories. Although to be honest I've always tended to steer clear of the latter."
But Cracknell is adamant he will make a full recovery to be at his wife's side when she gives birth.
He adds, "I'm so proud of her and our unborn child for the way they have looked after each other and I'm determined to make sure I make a full recovery to be there for (my family)."...

Now he is set to return home to his family by the end of the week (ends05Sep10), according to his TV presenter wife Beverly Turner.
She tells the BBC, "Rest and recuperation are strange concepts to such an active man.
"But he is looking forward to being home with the children. Both James and I would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support throughout this difficult process."...

Olympian-turned-tv adventurer James Cracknell has suffered brain damage after fracturing his skull in a cycling accident last week (ends25Jul10), according to his wife.
The British rower was cycling through Arizona filming a new show for the Discovery Channel when he was involved in a collision with a truck.
He is currently semi-conscious in a neuro-trauma ward and will need six months to recover from his injuries, according to his wife Beverly Turner.
She tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "I'd spent years worrying that James would plunge down a crevasse in some remote wilderness, but it was a road traffic accident in the U.S. that has left him with a fractured skull and damage to his brain."
Turner reveals Cracknell has had bleeding and swelling on his brain, which could cause personality and motivation issues - but she insists his prognosis is good.
She adds, "Only those closest to him may be able to tell a subtle difference."
The pair shares two children, Croyde, six, and Kiki, 16 months.

Little Britain star David Walliams has fallen victim to a gang of thieves who raided his home while he raised money for charity.
The British comedian arrived at his London home on Saturday morning after appearing on Bbc fundraiser Sport Relief the previous evening, only to discover his house had been burgled.
Police spent five hours inside Walliams' house searching for evidence, and believe the star was targeted as robbers knew he would be away from his home on Friday night for the scheduled TV appearance.
Walliams raised money for Sport Relief by swimming 12 miles (19.1 kilometres) across the treacherous Gibraltar Straits with former British Olympic rower James Cracknell. Walliams previously raised $2 million (GBP1 million) for the charity after swimming the English Channel in 2006.
