Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba is still making sense of something he saw one day on the way to the recording studio: A man on the side of the road battling his mental health, violently screaming at the world. “He was throwing his arms and legs about,” the singer and guitarist tells Rolling Stone. “It was a display of rage in front of this bush, but it looked like he was dancing.”
He noticed other passersby gawking at the man with amusement, but Skiba felt compassion — and curiosity. “I was just thinking,...

Alkaline Trio have shared “Bad Time,” the second single from their upcoming album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs.
“Bad Time” was inspired by terrifying real-life events, as vocalist Matt Skiba explained in a press statement. “‘Bad Time’ was initially inspired by a friend and crush who happened to call me while I was on tour in El Paso, TX as an active shooter situation was happening just across from where we were staying,” he said. “We could hear gunshots and sirens as the situation escalated. My friend asked if it was a bad time to talk, and I said no — I really wanted to speak with her. It was actually a terrible and terrifying time, but it was never a bad time to hear her voice.”
He continued, “The second verse goes back to a time in Chicago when my roommate Bobby and I were almost killed in the crossfire of...

Lamb of God offset the Los Angeles sunshine with the darkness of "512" during Thursday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing the brooding single on the show's outdoor stage. Led by Randy Blythe's dark bellow and the explosive soloing of guitarist Mark Morton, the metal veterans inspired a crowd mosh pit.
In June, Lamb of God premiered a macabre music video for "512" filled with dead bodies and murderous revenge. The track is featured on the Virginia band's eighth LP, VII: Sturm Und Drang, which was inspired by Blythe's life-changing stint in Prague's Pankrác Prison.

There’s always room for a werewolf film, especially a werewolf film with a kick-ass soundtrack. The Underworld 3: Rise Of The Lycans soundtrack isn’t it, but I’m just saying - if someone wants to make a werewolf film with a kick-ass soundtrack, as opposed to 16 tracks of insanely over-mixed break-beat-dub-core-schlock, that’d be alright by me.
Every song on here is a bastardised remix of the original, and that’s fine, if the originals are by Gilby Clark and Power Station. If you’ve got The Cure and Maynard James Keenan working together, what in God’s name are you doing remixing it?? That’s like bringing Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale together to make Batman and then having it re-cut by McG. In other words - not prudent. Not prudent at all.

Although all three members of Chicago-grown punk outfit Alkaline Trio have moved on geographically, bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano says the Second City will always be his number-one place to call home. As the band gears up for a homecoming at the Congress Theatre Nov. 20 and 21 to support its latest release, Agony & Irony. Paste:Local asked Andriano to keep the album's contrasting themes of darkness & light and life & death in mind when sharing his favorite hometown hotspots.

Six albums and 12 years after Alkaline Trio formed in suburban Chicago, it seems a little late in the game for the group to jump to a major label. Roughly seven years have passed since From Here To Infirmary made the group one of Vagrant Records' many next big things (along with Dashboard Confessional, Saves The Day, and The Get Up Kids). After Vagrant released 2005's excellent Crimson, the Trio moved to V2 Records, which promptly went out of business. Now seemingly stable on Epic, the Trio attempts to streamline its sound after the heavily produced Crimson, which arguably sounded more like a major-label album. Not that the new Agony & Irony is much different; the guitars are a little punchier, and the flourishes (keys, sequenced drums, strings) seem fewer. But the fundamental precepts remain as entrenched as ever: huge, heavily melodic punk guitars; a tight, aggressive...
