"Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps alight." We're only a few days away from Halloween now, to get you in the mood for some spooky times watch this short film. Duérmete Niño is an impressive new short film made by Mexican filmmaker Freddy Chavez Olmos, who has worked with Guillermo del Toro in the past on previous horror projects. Set in the 1940s, Duérmete Niño tells the story of Alma, played by Piercey Dalton, a religious mother of newborn twins who is constantly awakened by the disturbing sound of her crying babies. It's a bit different than other baby monitor horror shorts we've featured (like Monitor or Monitor) as it has a vintage vibe that really makes it stand out. I also dig the opening logo reveal, and the seamless VFX shots. Turn your volume up for this one - the sound is the creepiest part about it.

Did everyone get enough candy this Halloween? Did everyone watch enough scary movies? Well I’ve got one more for you! Shhh is a short film from director Freddy Chavez Olmos about a boy named Guillermo who uses his imagination to overcome a hair eating monster living in his bathroom. A fun fact about this film is that it was inspired by Guillermo del Toro‘s lucid dreams he had as a child.
The visual imagery, atmosphere and tone are all top notch. The narrator does a great job at telling the story, and the performances by the brother and the sister are great. In fact, at times it is difficult to tell whether the monster, or the sister is the primary antagonist.
Well that’s enough talking. Shhh clocks in at around 10 minutes and is a great watch while enjoying some leftover Halloween candy. Enjoy it after the jump!

Why Watch? There’s a reason that young Guillermo barely has any hair left, and it’s the same reason he’s afraid to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Gorgeously framed with an antique horror feel, this short from Freddy Chavez Olmos and Shervin Shoghian delivers a Gothic story about standing up to bullies (with just a little twisted revenge in the mix). The child acting is what it is, but the real stars are the fairy tale feel and the disgustingly good creature design (Dr. Finkelstein from Nightmare Before Christmas meets Alien?). It’s simple but satisfying. Perfect for this time of year. What Will It Cost? A little over 8 minutes A New Short Film Every Weekday...

Shhh Short Film Trailer. Freddy Chavez Olmos, Shervin Shoghian‘s Shhh (2011) short film trailer stars Ilze Burger, Sean Michael Kyer, and Ashley Whitehead. Shhh‘s plot synopsis: “Shhh is a fantasy/horror short tale about a young boy, Guillermo, who uses his imagination to overcome his bully: a hair-eating monster. Tired of being scared, Guillermo eventually takes matters into his own hands. It’s only then that we realize the monster might not be as fictitious as one may have thought.”
Looks cool. The thing that comes out of the tub looks disgusting, much like the gestation from the tub in the Tub (2010) Short Film.
On the effects in Shhh:
Featuring a creepy monster conceived by Sion Lee and put together by prosthetic and creature designer Tibor Farkas, the monster suit is worn by a dancer, giving the creature a beautifully fluid movement I hadn’t expected but which...

For the past few months I've been keeping an eye on a local production that showed much promise. A short film directed by award-winning make-up and effects artists Shervin Shoghian and Freddy Chavez Olmos, Shhh is the story of Guillermo, a young boy bullied at home by his older sister and terrorised by a monster in the bathroom, who uses his imagination to overcome his fears.
