Five new films including Her Way and The Scars of Ali Boulala, and six post-production titles shine in the French vendor’s bumper line-up. Armed with an undeniably positive mindset, allowing them to surmount the risks involved in the nervous management of a health crisis, French international sales agent Charades is primed and ready to offer distributors new prospects at the 71st Berlinale’s European Film Market (running online 1-5 March). Indeed, no fewer than five new films will enhance the extensive line-up put forward by the team composed of Yohann Comte, Carole Baraton, Pierre Mazars and Constantin Briest. Shining especially bright among these, we find the French feature Her Way by Cécile Ducrocq (starring Laure Calamy at the head of the cast – read our article – pre-sold on the basis of a script and a promo) and the documentary The Scars of Ali Boulala by Sweden’s Max Eriksson, of which.
The sales agent boasts a supersize line-up of 23 titles, including two Cannes-approved films, with Laurent Tirard’s The Speech and Chloé Mazlo’s Skies of Lebanon. Nothing seems to be able to slow the rise of French international sales agent Charades, which even took the liberty of launching an innovative alliance with Us distributor Neon in the midst of the health crisis (see the news), and which is putting the finishing touches to its slate of 23 titles for the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film Online (22-26 June). In particular, Yohann Comte, Carole Baraton, Pierre Mazars and Constantin Briest’s team will be pinning its hopes on two French films that have been granted Cannes labels. Bearing the Cannes 73 Official Selection stamp of approval, The Speech by Laurent Tirard, a filmmaker who has always successfully combined artistic quality with mainstream pulling power, will enjoy an online market world premiere.
IFC Films has shared a new clip from their highly anticipated film “Swallow” which is already generating a ton of buzz across the film festival circuit and early critical praise. On the surface, Hunter (Haley Bennett) appears to have it all. A newly pregnant housewife, she seems content to spend her time tending to an immaculate home and doting on her Ken-doll husband, Richie (Austin Stowell). However, as the pressure to meet her controlling in-laws and husband’s rigid expectations mounts, cracks begin to appear in her carefully created facade. Hunter develops a dangerous habit, and a dark secret from her past seeps out in the form of a disorder called pica – a condition that has her compulsively swallowing inedible, and oftentimes life-threatening, objects. A provocative and squirm-inducing psychological thriller, Swallow follows one woman’s unraveling as she struggles to reclaim independence in the face of an oppressive system by whatever means possible.
