I’ve been recapping American Idol since Carrie Underwood was a humble farm girl who may or may not have been able to afford Almay — let alone be the face of its national advertising campaign.
And throughout that time, the show’s judging panel has been my go-to source for mockery, outrage and befuddlement — as well as an assortment of all-important conspiracy theories.

Time for some "American Idol" results. Will the men keep getting cut? We won't know just yet, first we have to sit through a group sing to "Somebody to Love" by Queen, which is surprisingly good. Probably because there are so many talented women left.
Ford commercial, video recap of last night, Casey James, some other stuff. Then we reveal the judges' Top 3 -- Keith said Kree, Angie and Amber; Nicki says Angie, Amber and Kree; Randy says Amber, Kree and Angie; Mariah says Kree, Amber and Candice. So, that's not really that interesting.
Some real results -- Kree, Angie and Lazaro are in the Top 3. Oh. My. God. Are you kidding us with this?! Lazaro is soooooo much worse than everyone else in the competition. This not even funny anymore, he needs to go.
Carrie Underwood is there to perform and we'll make no bones about it -- we love her so much.

Gift wrapping at the holidays is a wonderful service. But how much more awesome would it be if your gift-wrapping was done by one of the former contestants on "American Idol"? People shopping in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta this year may have found that out.
These photos come from the gift-wrapping event held at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday (Dec. 18) and from a mall in Westchester, New York on Wednesday (Dec. 19). Manny Streetz, Michael Rippe, Brooke White (from "Idol" season 7) and Lexi Shaw wrapped the presents in California, while season 4's Anthony Fedorov led the gift-wrapping station in New York.
Those lucky shoppers who got their presents wrapped by TV people also received the gift of "American Idol"-themed wrapping paper. The gift-wrapping itself was free, but the stunt was meant to bring in donations to provide relief for those affected by hurricane Sandy.

Typically, an '80s night of any TV show would have us very excited, especially one that is musically-inclined. However, considering how poorly Billy Joel night went, we have our reservations about this batch of "American Idols" tackling '80s mus- oh dear God in heaven, what is Steven Tyler wearing tonight? He's like Josephine, the Amazing Technicolor Drag Queen. And Randy looks like he's attending a clown funeral after the show wraps.
Seacrest welcomes us by saying this music will take some of us back to our high school prom. Well, sure. And for some of the viewers, they're at home asking their parents what the "eighties" are.
1. DeAndre Brackensick, "I Like It," DeBarge
We're running out of ways to critique this guy. He picks boring songs, his falsetto is not as good as everybody acts like it is and he's so milquetoast on stage that we need toothpicks to prop our eyes open.

There’s this weird part of the week — from Friday morning till Monday evening — when not a single major TV network airs a reality singing competition. It’s terrible, I know, but it also gives me a lot of time to ponder American Idol history. (Everyone does this in their free time, yes?) And my latest flight of Idol fancy got me mulling this question: Was Season 11′s Top 10 the strongest — top to bottom — in show history? Let’s examine:
For starters, I’d automatically rule out the five seasons with three or more Top 10 contestants who probably wouldn’t have outlasted Season 11′s No.

As we lumber into the home stretch for the tenth season of American Idol, it’s hard not to start feeling nostalgic about past seasons of the show in comparison to this one. That feeling is especially acute (and just plain cute, really) when old Idol alums like Anthony Fedorov — who came in fourth place back in season 4, so long ago that it predates the very blog you’re currently reading (we are all so old, aren’t we!) — randomly pop by the old campus for a visit, only to discover they’ve erected a state-of-the-art Cross-Promotional Studies Center/UFO...

For those of you discouraged by Thursday’s results, keep in mind that Chris Daughtry also finished fourth on “Idol” ... along with superstars like Lakisha Jones and Anthony Fedorov. Wait, who? Exactly. Catty comments aside, it really makes no difference how these Final Four place, or how the Top 10 placed, for that matter. (Anyone remember a little lady named Pia Toscano?) They’ll all go on to bigger things and the shine in their stars will make Taylor Hicks look like a low wattage bulb in comparison. But back to the suspense. “Tonight, regardless...

Lady Gaga is coming to "American Idol" for the Top 4 next week, not only as a performer for the results show, but also as a mentor for Leiber and Stoller week.
It's an interesting week to have Gaga as the mentor, since she very much the hot thing right now and Leiber and Stoller songs are largely from the 1950s and 1960s. But maybe having someone as off-the-wall as Gaga will help the Idols not be too old-fashioned with their oldies theme.
And - this past week the Idols did the "Now and Then" theme and overall, the oldies were better than the new songs, so Leiber and Stoller might be alright. Their hits include "There Goes My Baby," "Hound Dog," "Yakety Yak," "Stand By Me" (with Ben E. King), "Jailhouse Rock," "Love Potion No. 9," "I'm a Woman" and "On Broadway."

American Idol results show is kind of like a trip to the dentist’s chair: The faster you get through it, the better. But Thursday night’s two-hour extravaganza — in which the crop of 24 season 10 semifinalists was dramatically culled to a field of 13 — proved the exception to the rule. Okay, sure, that brief clip of Ta-Tynisa Wilson’s “Only Girl (In the World)” felt like the haunting touch of a dentist’s drill without the benefit of novocaine. But on the whole, the two hours zoomed right past, fueled by a laughing-gas giddiness that this year’s finalists, as a whole,...

The Season 10 premiere of "American Idol" is less than a week away and to make the days go by a bit faster, Zap2it decided to take a stroll down memory lane and re-evaluate the previous nine seasons.
Each day leading up to the premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 19, we will post a retrospective on each season. We're breaking it down into four categories: Best Performance, Worst Performance, Most Underrated Idol and most Overrated Idol. At the end, we will decide how the season stacks up against the rest, rating it as great, good, or not-so-good.
We've looked back at Season 1 (yay Kelly!), Season 2 (aww, Clay and Ruben!) and the black hole that was Season 3. Now it's time to take a look back at one of our favorite seasons.
Season 4 contestants in order of elimination:
Lindsey Cardinale
Mikalah Gordon
Jessica Sierra
Nikko Smith
Nadia Turner
