When massive volcanic storms begin to spew from the Earth, geophysicist Kate Ferris tries to convince the Department of Defense that this is no natural phenomenon. They re the result of a seismic super weapon known as the Hell Storm device; and now that it’s been activated, the shock-waves it sends out will destroy major cities across the globe, killing millions. When her claims fall on deaf ears, Kate teams up with her daughter and estranged husband at the San Andreas fault line to find a way to counteract the destruction. As Kate and her family navigate the fault, they find themselves directly at the epicenter of the largest shock wave yet.

Today sees the release of Poseidon Rex on iTunes and select theaters, and we caught up with director Mark L. Lester for our latest Q&A feature. Best known for directing Commando and Firestarter, Mark tells us about his fascination with creature features, developing Poseidon Rex, and what he’s working on next:
Having been involved in creature features previously, what made you want to take on Poseidon Rex as your next film?
Mark L. Lester: I loved the idea of doing a sea creature movie and always wanted to make one, since I saw Beast of 20,000 Fathoms, as a little kid. That picture really haunted me.
Did you have any input in the story or was the script put together before you came on board?
Mark L. Lester: I developed the entire story from the beginning and had the script written by Rafael Jordan. I wanted to...

With Jurassic Park being rereleased in 3D this summer and another trip to the island of dinosaurs set for next summer, it really shouldn’t come as any surprise that b-moviemakers are already gearing up with movies like Jurassic Attack for the return of the cinematic dino craze.
Just a week or so ago I reported on The Asylum’s Age of Dinosaurs, in which Ronny Cox genetically engineers dinosaurs that get loose in Los Angeles and only Treat Williams can save us all. Fangoria today premiered the trailer for Jurassic Attack, in which a commando team hunting terrorists crash lands in a section of jungle home to all sort of hungry prehistoric terrors.
Mr. Syfy Corin Nemec stars alongside Vernon Wells of The Road Warrior fame, Michael Worth of “Acapulco H.E.A.T.” fame, and previous rampaging reptile survivor (Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus) Gary Stretch. Anthony Fankhauser (8213: Gacy House) directs...

With the American Film Market commencing any day now, we can expect to hear about a plethora of exciting new b-movie titles. Like, for example, two new monster movies being distributed by Titan Global Entertainment: Jurassic Attack and Poseidon Rex.
Are these two creature features bound for Syfy? I do not know for sure, but the pedigree surrounding Jurassic Attack would indicate Syfy is its destination.
Jurassic Attack stars Corin “King of Syfy” Nemec, Vernon “Let off some steam, Bennett!” Wells, Gary Stretch (Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus), and Alicia Ziegler (Wolf Town) as soldiers that find themselves at war with prehistoric dinosaurs.
While returning from a military expedition, a helicopter crash lands a commando unit in a dense, remote tropical jungle – a lost world populated by dinosaurs. Now they must find a way out of this isolated valley before becoming prey for prehistoric predators.

The Dinosaur Project
Stars: Natasha Loring, Matt Kane, Richard Dillane, Peter Brooke, Stephen Jennings | Written by Sid Bennett, Jay Basu | Directed by Sid Bennett
The Dinosaur Project is the (fictional) story of a missing Congo expedition and the findings of the Cryptozoological Society to audiences around the world. As the search for the missing crew continues, questions remain about the source of the missing footage and the manner in which it was discovered.
Before I go any further, here’s the now-defacto disclaimer: This is a found-footage movie. And you all know how much I despise the sub-genre. When it’s done wrong it’s usually done Very wrong and when it’s good… Well I can’t remember the last time it was! What also works against The Dinosaur Project is that you just...

Syfy has a new Original Movie heading our way on Saturday, July 14th, entitled True Bloodthirst; and we have a look at the trailer for the flick, in which humans and vampires must band together against a new hybrid type of super vampire.
True Bloodthirst is directed by Todor Chapkanov, written by Rafael Jordan, and stars Andrew Lee Potts ("Primeval"), Claudia Bassols ("Rob"), Neil Jackson ("Make It or Break It"), and Ben Lambert (Vampyre Nation").
Synopsis:
Bucharest, Romania. The not-too-distant future, but an entirely different city. The human population is dwindling. The vampire population, meanwhile, is exploding. Having emerged from the shadows a decade earlier, vampires now walk openly amongst the human population, as a precarious peace exists between the two. A peace made possible by the introduction of a synthetic blood substitute, dispensed by the Romanian government, making traditional vampire feeding, and preying on humans, no longer necessary. Vikings always seem to interest film makers, we’ve had the classic Kirk Douglas movie, we’ve even had the comic Erik the Viking, and we’ve had the 3D “spectacle” that was Beowulf. Now that we have moved into super hero territory with the most recent Thor film we’ll also get the smaller lower budget versions that don’t try to make Thor an alien but the God that he was in the original legends.
In Thor: Hammer of the Gods Thor is in fact a human character who along with a small group of other Vikings including his brothers invades an island looking for riches. All they find though is a group of people who are being terrorised by creatures that could...

It’s hard not to watch this trailer for Vampyre Nation and not get the sense that the makers of the movie watched Daybreakers and wished the film had more to do with characters hunting down those mutant vampire man-bats. And I would agree with them 100% on that point.
Vampyre Nation may not be an Asylum mockbuster of Daybreakers but it sure does sound like it could be.
But even so, it's not a peace that everyone is entirely comfortable with.

*full disclosure: American World Pictures provided a screener of this film for review.
Director: Steven R. Monroe.
Writers: Raul Inglis and Rafael Jordan.
Cast: Tahmoh Penikett, Michael Worth and Kacey Barnfield.
SyFy Channel should consider rebranding. They do a better job with the fantasy films they choose than the science fiction and terror products combined. Jabberwock is a simple tongue-in-cheek tale that plays with Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem, but spells the monster’s name without the y.
Either there were copyright issues that the film's producers could not wrangle, or they were simply trying to be original. To loosely base the monster on the design by artist John Tenniel gives this film a continuity that is much appreciated. Not every detail, like the creature’s long antennae, canonical beard and broad buckteeth are recreated, but any avid arts aficionado will recognize the silhouette.

This weekend’s Jabberwock gives the Syfy creature feature treatment to the insect-headed dragon of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Syfy has posted two clips from the medieval monster movie from I Spit on Your Grave remake director Steven R. Monroe.
Jabberwock stars Michael Worth (“Acapulco H.E.A.T.”, Sasquatch Mountain), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”, Trick ‘r Treat), and Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3). Rafael Jordan (Frost Giant, Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon) and Raul Inglis (Sand Serpents, Goblin) handled the scripting duties.
Here’s a rather spoiler-y synopsis for Jabberwock courtesy of the film’s distributors at American World Pictures that was clearly written by someone who confused the concept of synopsis with treatment. Whoever wrote it also doesn’t have much need for silly things like paragraphs. Believe me, when I start giving grammar lessons, you've got problems.

This is an early look at an upcoming post-apocalyptic vampire thriller titled Vampyre Nation. This film is from the man who made Weather Wars and Monster Wolf, Todor Chapkanov. Vampyre Nation stars Andrew Lee Potts ("Primeval"), Neil Jackson (Push) and Ben Lambert. In the future, vampires and humans live in a cold war atmosphere, where a synthetic blood substitute keeps the bloodsuckers at bay, temporarily. This truce will last for only so long.
Chapkanov's previous films Weather Wars and Monster Wolf were both shown on the SyFy Network and this title will also likely show on this channel, in 2012. This director also completed work on Miami Magma, which was shown on television. Have a look at all the details for this production below, courtesy of UFO International.
The synopsis for Vampyre Nation:

The director of I Spit on Your Grave 2010, Steven R. Monroe, is back with another tale of terror and a whole new beast to unleash. Get ready for several exclusive stills from Jabberwocky.
The film, written by Raul Inglis and Rafael Jordan, also stars Richard Riddell (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus), Ian Virgo (the upcoming John Cusack film The Raven, Black Hawk Down) and Michael Worth (God’s Ear) and was shot in Bulgaria. Director Steven R. Monroe stated, "Any time you get to shoot a period piece project like Jabberwocky with sets, wardrobe, swords and creatures, you are like a kid in the candy store. Also, when you get to assemble a great diverse cast to be in that atmosphere, it adds yet another level of excitement. Everyone just kind of falls into place and into character when they land in all these elements, and it's just really fun...

Luke Goss stars in Nick Lyon's Annihilation Earth, a post-apocalyptic TV movie that was once called Doomsday, but was changed when it was mistakenly taken to be a series based on Neil Marshall's film of the same name (and since we broke that rumor, my apologies).
Anyway, now that that confusion is over and done with, SyFy has given the flick a release date (December 12, 2009) and released the first destruction filled trailer.
Synopsis:
An attack on a supercollider puts the planet on a collision course with total destruction.
Annihilation Earth was written by Rafael Jordan and also stars the great Colin Salmon, Xenia Seeberg and Theo Cross.
Trailer after the break.
Embedded video stripped, see full HTML version.

Last week we discovered that a made-for-tv movie called "Doomsday" was in production for release in 2009. The film's IMDb page came complete with a gallery of posters of Neil Marshall's film "Doomsday" which, naturally, lead us to believe that the two were somehow related. Well, now things are starting to get interesting.
We received a tip to check out the myspace page of actor Mike Johnson (Ninja) who plays a part in the film. On his profile, he lists the film as being originally titled Doomsday 2: Level Extinction. His latest blog post however, explains that the title has been changed to simply "Doomsday" and that "according to [the writer] Rafael Jordan [it] has nothing to do for the Neil Marshall film."
Hmmmm, so from the sounds of it the project was, at one point, considered a sequel to the Marshall film by both the writer and production team but now is not?...

For a film that didn't exactly perform so well at the box office (but which I supremely loved) it's hard to fathom why it was decided that Doomsday would be a hit on the small screen. But indeed it is true, our own projectcyclops discovered that Neil Marshall's apocalyptic virus flick is being made into a made-for tv-movie by The Scifi Channel for broadcast in 2009. But is it a sequel? A prequel? Another adventure set in the same universe at the same time as agent Eden Sinclair infiltrated Scotland? Who knows, the deets are sketchy at best.
The film is being directed by Nick Lyon (Species: The Awakening) and was written by Rafael Jordan (Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon). It is set to star Hellboy II's Luke Goss, Colin Salmon, Marina Sirtis, and Xenia Seeberg among many others.
That's all for now. I'll update when I find more.

Zachery Ty Bryan? The eldest son from "Home Improvement"? As Viking superman Thor? Seriously? Is this some sort of sick joke?
Well, kind of. You didn't think I was talking about the upcoming blockbuster based on Marvel Comics' Thor comic book character did you? Oops. I probably should clarify. You see Zachery Ty Bryan will be playing a viking named "Thor" in the upcoming Sci-Fi Channel original movie Hammer of the Gods. Described as "a supernatural action horror set amongst warring vikings," the film deals with an angry Viking who goes to war with the Gods battling giants, trolls, Valkyries, and such.
Produced by the United Film Organization, Hammer of the Gods is directed by Todor Chapkunov (Sci-Fi's surprisingly good Copperhead) from a script by the increasingly prolific Sci-Fi Channel screenwriter Rafael Jordan, the scribe behind Copperhead and this past weekend's Yeti. Directly before Yeti’s premiere on the Sci Fi Channel (ahead of its DVD release from Genius Products January 13), the network had a back-to-back airing of Ryan Schifrin’s Abominable and Tibor Takacs’ Ice Spiders. First, I got my Bigfoot fix, followed by my monsters at a ski resort. By the time they wrapped up, I was primed to enter Yeti territory. Personally, I couldn’t think of a better introduction to this gleefully over-the-top little flick than prefacing it with those two equally hammy gems.
In Yeti, we’ve got an American college football team headed to Japan aboard their private jet, which just happens to give out over the Himalayas (apparently they got a discount by flying all the way around the entire world, rather than just over the Pacific). Huddled together in the blistering cold, the surviving kids find themselves stalked by the legendary Yeti, an enormous...

Fango caught up with screenwriter Rafael Jordan to chat about his latest creature feature Yeti, which premieres on the Sci Fi Channel this Saturday, November 8 at 9 p.m. before hitting DVD from Genius Products as part of its Maneater DVD series January 13 (see item here). Jordan describes his freaky tale as Alive with the Abominable Snowman (pictured with producer Daniel Grodnik) thrown in for extra gruesomeness, as it involves a college football team stranded in the Himalayas after surviving a plane crash.

Adrian Paul and Temuera Morrison are set to face off in Sci Fi's original movie Captain Drake.
The cast of the pirate-themed fantasy-action movie also includes Wes Ramsey (Charmed) and newcomer Sofia Pernas.
Drake stars Paul (Highlander) as the title character, real-life English pirate/admiral/adventurer Frances Drake, who sets out on a quest to find the legendary Tree of Life to save the life of his daughter (Pernas). Along the way, he battles the Spanish Armada, sea monsters, a mystical Persian sorceress and the legendary Norse God-creature the NidhoggCQ. Ramsey will play Peter, Drake's first mate and Pernas' love interest.
Morrison, known for his role as Jango Fett in two of the Star Wars prequels, plays Drake's real-life adversary, the Spanish pirate Sandovate.
The movie, which is being filmed on location in the Black Sea and Eastern Europe, likely will debut late next year as part of Sci Fi's Saturday night lineup.
David Flores is directing from a script by Rafael Jordan, who has written multiple Sci Fi movies.
