There has been recent speculation about Arsenal’s German international forward Lukas Podolski’s future. More specifically, it now seems that he would prefer to remain at Arsenal if at all possible.
There has never been a question about the ability he possesses in his left boot, but his all round game has never been quite enough for Arsene Wenger, who sent him out on loan to Inter Milan for the second half of last season.
It has been reported in recent weeks that the once-upon-a-time Bayern Munich man is on the verge of signing for the Turkish champions Galatasaray, and it still seems very likely to happen. Turkish publication Cumhuriyet are claiming Poldi has said: “I have agreed with Galatasaray… I want to leave [Arsenal].”

Newcastle United have been linked to yet another big name ahead of the summer transfer window – with Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski supposedly on their transfer list.
The German World Cup winner has been on loan at Inter Milan since January but has scored just one goal in 14 appearances – and he could become available for £10 million fee at the end of the season.
Wages of £100,000-a-week plus could prove a stumbling block for Newcastle though, as they like to run the club on a tight budget.
Adam Davy/Empics Sport
Allied to the fact he has struggled to find the back of the net, or break into the Inter first team, is the concern that Podolski will be 30 in June – an age that traditionally would convince the Magpies to immediately dismiss the 123-cap German.
However, according to media reports in both England and Germany, Newcastle are looking to...

Memories of Celtic’s 1967 European Cup final win will come flooding back when Ronny Deila’s side host Inter Milan in the first leg of their last 32 Europa League tie.
Celtic became the first British club to lift the European Cup after a 2-1 win over the Italian giants and the Parkhead faithful will be hoping for something similar tonight.
Celtic’s form has been iffy to say the least in this season’s Europa League as they finished second in group D, a full eight points behind winners Red Bull Salzburg.
They face an Inter side that coasted through and topped a group that included Dnipro, Qarabağ and Saint-Étienne.
Roberto Mancini has failed to turn around the club’s domestic form as the blue and blacks currently sit 10th in the Serie A table, 10 points off the Champions League spots.

Arsenal reverted to type on transfer deadline day. After spending £42.5 million on Mesut Ozil a year ago and £35 million on Alexis Sanchez earlier this summer, manager Arsene Wenger put his chequebook away and stuck to his usual policy of financial stringency. That’s despite the fact his club clearly needed a new striker before tonight’s 11pm transfer cut-off point.
With Oliver Giroud out injured until the New Year with a broken leg, the Gunners were in the market for a world-class centre-forward, but Wenger’s hesitance (or even reluctance) to spend big means the Londoners are going to have to make do with misfit Lukas Podolski, rookies Joel Campbell, Yaya Sanogo and Chuba Akpom and Manchester United castoff Danny Welbeck.

Counter to some reports, Sky Sports’ Spanish expert Guillem Balague has confirmed that Arsenal were Not interested in signing Radamel Falcao, even with the loan fee as low as £6million. He has spoken out in an interview to suggest that it was always going to be Man Utd who signed the Colombian striker.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has astonishingly revealed he might not sign another striker before next Monday’s transfer deadline, despite the fact a potentially-long-term injury to Oliver Giroud has left him with just Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom up front ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leicester City.
Giroud is facing a possible three months in the treatment room amid fears he has broken his ankle, while Yaya Sanogo is struggling with a hamstring injury and Lukas Podolski lacks match fitness. It’s a grim situation for Wenger and he surely must backtrack on his claims and sign another striker before the transfer window crashes shut.

The late kick-off today is the first game of the season to pit two proclaimed Top Four challengers against one another as Arsenal look to build on their opening day win over Southampton with a better performance, but a similar result against Roberto Martinez’s Everton.
Arsenal were expected to ring the changes after losing Arteta to injury in midweek, and welcome back their returning World Cup stars, and Arsen Wenger will no doubt hope that he can avoid a repeat of Everton’s impressive 3-0 victory at Goodison last year.

Having already done some seriously impressive business in the transfer window, and impressively early compared to normal, Arsene Wenger must be sitting around twiddling his thumbs, as the Arsenal manager is being linked with moves for pretty much anyone who is available at the minute – no doubt as a conspiracy to give Jim White something to get over-excited about on August 31st.
The latest - following the supposedly nailed-on news that Wenger was about to sign William Carvalho – is that the Frenchman is about to complete a loan deal to bring Brazilian attacker Douglas Costa to North London after he followed Facundo Ferreyra in refusing to go back to parent club Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Gunners aren’t exactly shot of wide attacking options, with recognisable wingers Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Serge Gnabry and Ryo Myaichi being supplemented by Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski, Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla...

Despite news emerging yesterday that Sami Khedira had spectacularly turned his back on a move to North London in favour of reuniting with old Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, it seems that Arsene Wenger is on the verge of bringing another Spain based World Cup star to the Premier League with the acquisition of the German international.
The sticking point had apparently been Khedira’s demands of £130,000 a week in wages, with Arsenal unwilling to break their wage structure entirely to bring him in, but that is clearly no longer an issue, as Arsenal have cemented their interest by agreeing a deal with Real Madrid on the asking price of £20million. The 27-year-old has just a year left on his current contract, and will be pushed down the pecking order at Madrid by the impending arrival of his international team-mate Toni Kroos, who announced his...

His womanizing skills are legendary and Gerard Butler definitely found a gorgeous gal to keep him company in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday night (July 13).
Following an exciting day of World Cup action, the “Ps I Love You” hunk attended a celebratory party where he met a blonde woman and they quickly began kissing and showing plenty of Pda.
And as the shindig began to wind down, Gerard and his new female friend left together, opting to take their party back to the hotel.
Earlier in the evening, Gerard posed for a photo with Team Germany hunk Lukas Podolski. The soccer stud posted the pic to Instagram with the caption, “Gerard Butler aka the law abiding citizen and me;) cool that you came over. Great actor, great guy! The “We Found Love” singer actually had a Brazilian flag painted on her neck and the name “Pele” on her cheek as she watched the Germans defeat Team Argentina 1-0 to become the reigning world champs.
After the match, Ri-Ri got out her mobile phone and began snapping up selfies with several players including Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

As far as I'm concerned, the World Cup isn't so much an opportunity to admire stunning feats of athleticism as it is to ogle the sport's assortment of hardbodied players, and I've no doubt spent far more time Google Image Searching shirtless photos of Cristiano Ronaldo than tuning in to the actual matches. So what better way to end the whole thing than with a truly adorable victory selfie by German players Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger (who kind of looks like Kenneth from "Mad Men," incidentally) following today's 1-0 win over Argentina? Over the past decade, Arsenal have experienced some turbulent seasons. Prior to last year’s campaign’s closely fought Fa Cup win, the Emirates’ trophy cabinet had been balder than Phil Mitchel’s bald head and the Gunners lack of silverware was becoming a running joke among other football fans. However, last season’s campaign was deceptively solid. Granted they came nowhere near to winning the League Title in the end, but Arsenal actually spent the most time sitting at the league’s summit. They may have faltered in the latter half of the season, but Wenger’s men still managed a finish good enough to guarantee them Champions League football as well as finally ending their infamous trophy draught.

Arsenal have at long last ended their nine year barren run without a trophy following their much-needed Fa Cup win against Hull City earlier this month.
And now, with the summer transfer window open once again, manager Arsene Wenger will be looking to sign world class players to start another era of dominance of English football.
According to reports, Wenger wants to sign a new right-back, centre-midfielder and striker in the current window and is determined not to undergo another long spell without silverware.
High on the Frenchman’s list of priorities should be a new striker, considering his attack force was left looking threadbare at times last season, with Oliver Giroud the club’s only available forward at times with Lukas Podolski spending long spells in the treatment room.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have long been flirting with the idea of transfer listing Nicklas Bendtner while rookies...

Despite the assumption that Arsene Wenger’s earlier assertion that he was intent on signing at least one player meant precisely that he was only going after one player, in Kim Kallstrom, it looks like the manager was working on far more potential deals than initially suspected.
Quickly after the news broke that Wenger had seen a loan bid for Salomon Kalou rejected by Lille, who prefered a permanent deal for the former Chelsea man, Sky Sports News have also confirmed that Lazio have rebuffed an attempt to sign German striker Miroslav Klose on loan until the end of the season.
Klose might seem like an odd choice, given his age, but his direct play and his form in front of goal would make him a strong candidate to play in front of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.

Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of a striker has been well-documented this winter, with pundits believing that a centre-forward was the one biggest missing ingredient in his quest for a Premier League winning side, particularly with injuries to Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo, and an over-reliance on Olivier Giroud. And though the majority of the media today took Wenger’s assertion that they were focusing on one player “at least” to mean they only expected to finalise one deal (likely for Kim Kallstrom,) it seems Wenger was in fact busy on other fronts.
Sky Sports News have just confirmed that Arsenal have failed in a deadline day bid to sign Lille forward, and former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou on loan. The French side are willing to let Kalou leave permanently, in order to get his wages off the books, but they aren’t interested in a loan at this stage.

Arsenal are in pursuit to sign veteran striker Miroslav Klose, reports Metro. The potential transfer would only see the Klose loaned out to the London club until the end of the season.
The 33 year old German forward is currently playing for Lazio and it seems that Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing him in to provide back-up to Olivier Giroud. Nicklas Bendtner has suffered from a number of injury problems over the season and has only played in a handful of games, meanwhile Lukas Podolski is untrusted as the lead striker, with Wenger preferring him to cut inside from the wing.
Now that it seems that the Julian Draxler deal has faded, Arsenal may be looking for a short term solution until the summer when they can try to get the promising youngster once again.
Klose would certainly provide an experienced head in the last few months of the season.

The hosting Gunners were dominant from the first whistle. Podolski made that pay on the quarter hour rounding Sky Blues keeper Joe Murphy to complete a fine team move. Jack Wilshere won possession, fed Mesut Ozil and he slipped it across to his fellow German international in the left channel.

Third tier team Coventry City travel to Premier League leaders Arsenal in the Fa Cup fourth round on Friday with only one win against the Londoners in 20 years in all competitions.
Robbie Keane, who went on to play for the Gunners’ bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur, scored the winner at Highfield Road in December 1999 as the Sky Blues emerged victorious 3-2. You have to go back to 1993 for the last time Coventry won at Arsenal by the handsome scoreline 3-0. Micky Quinn’s hat-trick in half an hour at Highbury did the damage.
The Sky Blues’ have a dismal Fa Cup record against the Gunners too. Arsenal have never lost to Coventry in the world’s oldest knockout football competition. In all cup competitions full stop the West Midlands outfit have recorded a single win.

Arsenal avenged their opening day defeat and kept themselves top of the Premier League by winning at Aston Villa. Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud scored within a minute of one another, but the hosts fought back in the second half and pulled one back through Christian Benteke.
Paul Lambert can take solace from that improvement after the break, but several tactical changes – one enforced when defender Nathan Baker sustained a concussion – failed to bring about a favourable result.
Benteke’s goal drought ended, however, and that is another positive for the Villa Park faithful to take in the face of defeat. The Gunners meanwhile took to the field for the first time since losing Theo Walcott to a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Arsene Wenger was also without Mikel Arteta because of a calf strain, so he made three changes from their last Premier League outing.

Arsenal target Paul-Georges Ntep appears to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium for talks after the Auxerre attacker posted a picture of his meal on the Eurostar on Instagram.
Caught Offside believes this signifies that the Cameroon-born France Under-21 international was travelling to London and specifically the Gunners. According to the Independent, Arsene Wenger has moved for Ntep because of his injury crisis up front.

Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner are all missing through injuries and illness. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain meanwhile is still rehabbing after knee surgery. That leaves Germany centurion Lukas Podolski and reserve team player Park Ju-Young as the only available senior forwards.
Wenger has reportedly been quoted a price of £8 million for Ntep, who is regarded as one of the hottest properties outside the French top flight. Arsenal are not alone in their interest in the 21-year-old,...

A popular theory in English football at the moment is that Premier League leaders Arsenal are a little light up front. Their attacking options were compounded on Monday with the news that Theo Walcott would be out for six months following a knee injury in the Fa Cup win over Tottenham Hospur.
Aside from anything else, the news also meant Walcott will miss this summer’s World Cup in Brazil just as he was beginning to show a potency up front that was severely lacking from his game as a youngster.
A bigger problem that resulted in the injury to the England international was that the Gunners were left with French workaholic Olivier Giroud and ‘butt of many a joke’ Nicklas Bendtner as their main strikers. Germany’s Lukas Podolski provides some cover but has proved unconvincing in the central striking position when used there recently.

The January transfer window has opened up and for most it seems to be a nuisance as supposedly bigger clubs attempt to poach their players and simultaneously disrupt the flow of their season. Other more optimistically minded fans, and clubs see it as an opportunity to boost their team’s chances of reaching the season’s target by supplementing the squad with extra quality, though of course, investment at this stage can often be a detriment to stability.
The biggest danger in the winter window is buying duds at extortionate prices as selling clubs know that the short amount of time to secure deals works in their favour (hence the inevitable flurry of activity at the very tail-end of the window.)

In one fell swoop, Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge and the hopes of England making an impression at the World Cup in Brazil this summer were dealt a hammer-blow by injury to Theo Walcott.
Gunners and Three Lions forward Walcott, 24, may have escaped punishment from the Fa for his reminding Tottenham Hotspur fans of the score in the North London derby when he was stretchered off, but it has since emerged that he ruptured his Acl. That means surgery and six months on the sidelines.
Arsene Wenger is now down to the bare bones in attack. Olivier Giroud has missed the first couple of matches in the New Year due to illness and an ankle knock. Nicklas Bendtner meanwhile has a similar injury that is expected to keep him out for the rest of January.

Arsenal knocked North London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur out of the Fa Cup in the tie of the third round. Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky were on target for the Premier League leaders.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger met yet another different Spurs boss in Tim Sherwood here as the hosts continue to hog bragging rights in this rivalry. Arsenal made four changes from the late home win over Cardiff City.
Wenger rested number one Wojciech Szczesny completed whilst Per Mertesacker and Mathieu Flamini began on the bench. Lukas Podolski was also amongst the substitutes. Lukasz Fabianski, Serge Gnabry, Rosicky and Thomas Vermaelen made starts.
Hotspur head coach Sherwood gave teenager Nabil Bentaleb his full debut in place of Etienne Capoue. Otherwise he fielded the same XI that began the 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on New Year’s Day.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is preparing a £32 million move for Diego Costa after his striker concerns deepened on New Year’s Day, according to the Daily Star.
Wenger has a crisis up front at present as Nicklas Bendtner sprained his ankle during the Gunner’s 2-0 win over Cardiff on Wednesday, sidelining him for six weeks.

And, though Lukas Podolski has returned to full match fitness following a lengthy lay-off, Wenger still feels he needs more firepower with untested Chuba Akpom his only fallback option.
Costa, 25, has a £32 million buy-out clause at Atletico and his potential arrival at the Emirates would be seen as a huge investment following last summer’s £42.5 million outlay on Mesut Ozil.

Newcastle United have not won a home game with Arsenal for over eight years. Nolberto Solano scored the winner and Gilberto Silva was sent off for the Gunners the last time the Toon vanquished this London opposition at St James’ Park.
This fixture tends to go one of two ways – it’s either a tight contest or a goal-fest. Two of the last five meetings have contained a 4-4 draw and 7-3 win at the Emirates for Arsenal.
Alan Pardew’s Magpies have hit form, suffering just one defeat in nine outings since successive losses to bitter rivals Sunderland and Manchester City in the Capital One Cup at the end of October.
Seven wins thereafter have included victories over Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United. Newcastle have scored eight goals over Christmas, including...

Arsenal came from behind to continue their excellent record against West Ham and reclaim the Premier League’s top spot. Carlton Cole gave the Hammers the lead, but a brace from Theo Walcott and a Lukas Podolski strike turned things around.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce showed his disappointment with his team’s defeat away at Manchester United by making four changes. Guy Demel, Modibo Maiga, Ravel Morrison and Matthew Taylor all made way as Carlton Cole, Joe Cole, skipper Kevin Nolan and Joey O’Brien came in.
The Gunners fielded ten of the same starting XI that played out a bore draw with Chelsea on Monday – a result which saw them lose top spot. Santi Cazorla replaced the injured Tomas Rosicky in the only alteration made by Arsene Wenger.

Theo Walcott’s brace helped Arsenal to a 3-1 victory as they came from behind to secure three points and rise to the top of the table.
Carlton Cole gave the hosts the lead immediately after half-time before two goals in three minutes from Walcott turned the game in Arsenals favour. Lukas Podolski secured the victory 11 minutes from time on his return from injury.
Arsenal got the first real chance of the match in the 26th minute when Ramsey flicked the ball over the top of the defence to Theo Walcott, who volleyed his shot past the wrong side of the post.
In the 32nd minute Arsenal pressed forward again with Mesut Ozil cutting the ball back to Santi Cazorla on the edge of the area who fired his shot narrowly over the bar. They had another chance shortly after when Giroud was played through on goal...

Arsenal reclaimed top spot in the Premier League thanks to Theo Walcott’s second half double and a Lukas Podolski strike that downed London rivals West Ham United at Upton Park. The hosts had led through Carlton Cole.
Hammers midfielder Mark Noble was first to work Wojciech Szczesny in the visiting goal, forcing the Pole to palm away a free kick. This followed a start where the visiting defence had to deal with a flurry of crosses.
Spanish stopper Adrian kept out a powerful Santi Cazorla header on 15 minutes when West Ham failed to fully clear their lines from a Gunners corner. Early home side pressure quickly dissolved in customary waves of pressure from Arsene Wenger’s team.
Carlton Cole gave the Hammers some rare respite with hold-up play that invited Mohamed Diame to sting the palms of Szczesny with from long range. Walcott then fired wide...

Arsenal have been told to forget about signing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in January, but boss Carlo Ancelotti hinted the player could be available in the summer, according to the Metro.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the 21-year-old starlet in recent weeks, with Morata struggling to get playing time at the Bernabeau, behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in the pecking order.
That had given Arsenal hope of signing the Spain international, but Madrid boss Ancelotti says he’s going nowhere – for the time being, at least.
He said:
“Morata stays because we need him. It’s true that he has not played many games but we have every confidence in him.
“It could be at the end of the season that he is not happy and we can think about letting him go but we need him now.”

Arsenal are on the brink. Despite their excellent and surprising start to the season, they could still fall at the final hurdle and fail to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Having been drawn in the toughest group in the European competition probably in their history, the Gunners still top the group but need at least a point at San Paolo against Napoli. A tough assignment indeed, but having already won in Germany to beat last season’s finalists Borussia Dortmund this year, the Gunners should be able to secure a passage into the next round.
In previous seasons the club have typically been drawn against teams of lower standing and who they managed, just, to get enough points off to make it to the next round of the competition, only to fall at the first hurdle in the knockout stages. This season has...

Romanian attacker Ciprian Marica has emerged as a January target for Premier League leaders Arsenal as manager Arsene Wenger looks to less expensive options than Christian Benteke and Karim Benzema.
The 28-year-old Getafe forward could end up at the centre of a tug of war between the Gunners and their London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur, reports the Metro.
Marica, who counts Shakhtar Donetsk and Bundesliga outfits Stuttgart and Schalke 04 among his former clubs, was the star performer for his country. He fired Romania into the World Cup playoffs, scoring five times in qualifying before they lost to Greece.
As Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski returned to action this weekend and near a comeback respectively, Arsenal’s squad is looking strong as the season enters the crowded festive fixture programme. This has prompted Wenger to think again about spending big on another forward when the winter transfer window opens.

Arsenal are poised to make a £28 million bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as manager Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his forward line in January, according to the Daily Mail.
Even though Theo Walcott is on his way back from injury – the forward came off the bench to play 20 minutes against Southampton after a two-month layoff on Saturday – Wenger still admits he needs a new striker.
The Gunners chief has been linked with a myriad of potential signings up front over the past few months, including Real Madrid’s former star Gonzalo Higuain and also Karim Benzema.
The Frenchman has also been tipped with a move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez – whom he bid over £40 million for this summer, while Benteke remains a strong possibility.
The 22-year-old struck 19 Premier League goals during his debut campaign in the topflight in 2012/13 to impress, and put a host of...

It has always been one of the Premier League’s most anticipated fixtures – great goals, mistakes, penalty misses, red card and fights – from some of the country’s best players and managers.
Ryan Gigg’s individual effort in 1999, then there are the games in Arsenal’s invincible era – the battles between Patrick Viera and Roy Keane, Thierry Henry’s tremendous volley, Ruud van Nistlerooy’s penalty miss the ensuing melee – then there is the 8-2 humiliation of Arsenal in 2011 and Robin Van Persie’s transfer to Arsenal’s great rivals, and that is just a small list of events.
Another of the talking points this fixture produces is the battle between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. This season though, it is David Moyes in charge and you cannot help but feel that his more laid back...

Arsenal are lining up a sensational New Year bid for Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners are weighing up a move for the Mexican striker, over concerns about Oliver Giroud’s workload.
Giroud is Arsenal’s only fit senior striker with Lukas Podolski still out injured, and manager Arsene Wenger is eager to bring in a new recruit to ease the Frenchman’s goalscoring burden.
Liverpool’s Luis Suarez remains a target, but, in news that will almost certainly heighten hostilities just two days before their clash in the Premier League, the Gunners are also eyeing United’s ‘Chicharito’.
Wenger will try to sign a new forward in January and considers the potential procurement of Hernandez’s services realistic, given how little game time he has been getting at Old Trafford recently.

Arsenal are set to battle it out with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund for the services of Olympiacos striker Kostas Mitroglou in the New Year, according to the Daily Star.
Mitroglou has impressed for the Greek giants this season, scoring 14 goals in as many games to attract the interest of some of the continent’s leading club sides.
Arsenal are on the lookout for a new forward and manager Arsene Wenger has plenty of money to splash in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old would likely cost around £7 million but his recent spate of goal-scoring form could spark a bidding war and drive the fee upwards.
Mitroglou has already hit an incredible three hat-tricks this season and has helped Greece to a World Cup play-off against Romania in November.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has been impressed by the ace and needs a new striker given the long-term injury to Lukas Podolski.

Fernando Llorente wants to join Arsenal in January in order to save his World Cup dream, according to the Mirror.
The Juventus striker only joined the Turin club this summer after leaving Athletic Bilbao but has found first team opportunities difficult to come by since moving to Italy.
Former Manchester City ace Carlos Tevez is currently above the 28-year-old in the pecking order, and with Llorente desperate to get regular playing time to break into the Spain squad, Arsenal have been put on alert.
The Gunners are keen to add to their strike force in the January window, and are weighing up the possibility of a loan move for the Juve man, which would seem to suit both parties.
Arsenal view Llortene as a “stop-gap” and are looking for more long-term options up front, but with Lukas Podolski out until the New Year, realise they are light in attack.

Arsenal may be flying high at the top of the Premier League, but manager Arsene Wenger must be aware that his side are worryingly short of strikers.
The injury to Lukas Podolski, ruling him out until the New Year, has balanced the Gunner’s pursuit of success this season on a knife’s edge.
An injury to the in-form Olivier Giroud, for example, would leave Wenger with no choice but to start out of favour Nicklas Bendtner, or deploy Mesut Ozil in a false 9 position.
The club’s injury crisis means they are also without Theo Walcott and Yaya Sanogo, two men who could stand in for Giroud.
This lack of depth in striking options invariably means Wenger will have to return to the transfer market when it reopens in January.

Arsenal are poised to make yet another club-transfer-record-breaking bid for a Real Madrid player, with Karim Benzema being linked with a move to the Gunners, according to the Metro.
In the summer window, Arsene Wenger’s side shelled out £42.5 million for Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil, and they are set to blow that out of the water by capturing former teammate Benzema, say reports.
According to the Metro, respected Fifa agent Francois Gallardo dropped a heavy hint that the striker could be on his way to Emirates Stadium for £43 million in January.
“A very important Premier League club is after Karim,” Gallardo is reported to have told Le Sport 10.
“This club wants the transfer to happen this winter, but if this is not possible, then next summer at the latest.
“The offer will be around €50 million [£43 million].”
Though Gallardo stopped short of specifically mentioning the unknown suitor, Arsenal are known to be big admirers of Benzema,...

Arsenal have been told they can have out-of-favour Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema for a cut-price £20 million in January, according to the London Evening Standard.
The north London club were keen on the 25-year-old attacker over the summer but were quoted £40 million by the Spanish giants, causing manager Arsene Wenger to cool his interest.
However, a run of indifferent form that has seen Benzema score just twice in eight league games, coupled by a reported rift with coach Carlo Ancelotti, has led to the depreciation in the forward’s value.
Despite signing Gareth Bale for a world-record fee over the summer, Ancelotti has realised his side need more attacking impetus, and will therefore use the proceeds from Benzema’s sale to bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will resolve his side’s striker shortage by bringing in Fernando Llorente on loan in January, according to the Mirror.
Wenger is desperate to bolster his forward line with Oliver Giroud the only fit senior striker at the club, as Lukas Podolski has been ruled out until the New Year through injury.
The veteran French boss sees Llorente as an ideal stop-gap option, and though Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is still on his radar, the Juventus hit-man represents the more realistic target.
Wenger may even attempt to secure Llorente on a loan deal, which would seem to suit all parties with Juve leaving the former Athletic Bilbao man on the bench since his summer arrival.
Carlos Tevez, another summer arrival after joining from Manchester City, is currently ahead of the 28-year-old in the pecking order.
