The unholy union of rock music and horror is alive and well in Art of a Hit, a psychological horror movie set to begin production soon according to Deadline.
Formerly titled Excelsis, Art of a Hit is set in 2003 and “follows a bygone rock band as they journey to a 1000-year-old French chateau to record with a reclusive super-producer in hopes of rebooting their career. But as tensions rise and tempers flare, they realize they are up against more than just the pressure to succeed.”
Deadline reports that “Indie rock pioneer Adam Lasus is music directing the ’90s alternative-heavy soundtrack alongside music supervisor Linda Cohen (Licorice Pizza).”
That exciting tidbit not only highlights that music will be prominent to this rock horror story, but it’s 2003 eschews the conventional ’80s hair metal movement frequently explored in this niche subgenre. I suppose the real question at this point is just how...

Do you feel the need? The need for ... another Blu-ray column? The biggest entry in this latest Blu-ray round-up is, of course, the mega-hit "Top Gun: Maverick." But there are a bunch of other major releases here, including a Criterion Collection edition of "Malcolm X," Mia Goth going crazy in "Pearl," a massive box set from Columbia Pictures, a 4K release of "Punisher: War Zone," the latest from George Miller, and a Brian De Palma classic. So keep spinning those discs.
Top Gun: Maverick
I wasn't as high on "Top Gun: Maverick" as most people, but I appreciate it as an old-school blockbuster. Tom Cruise is back, training a new generation of fighter pilots to pull off a move that really seems like the plan to blow up the Death Star at the end of "Star Wars." Blending practical effects with digital seamlessly, "Maverick" is a fist-pumping, action-packed adventure that...

Sprung, a quirky comedy, follows formerly incarcerated Jack who is determined to make up for his lost years by using his powers for good as he enters back into the world at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Phillip Garcia, who plays Rooster, Clare Gillies, who plays Wiggles and James Earl, who plays Melvin, recently sat for a conversation with uInterview founder Erik Meers where they discussed their favorite moments this season.
“A good [show creator] Greg Garcia comedy always has some good fart jokes,” Garcia said. “There are definitely a few Rooster fart jokes and they happen in moments where you’re not really expecting it and they kind of come out of nowhere. That’s kind of what a fart does!”
“People act like they don’t fart no more! You still fart, people!” Earl cut in jokingly.

America is full of inequalities, and most of them have been amplified since Covid-19 arrived. Oxfam reports that 99 percent of the world’s income fell in 2020, while the Earth’s 10 richest men saw their fortunes more than double. Underpaid essential workers toiled while white collar workers bought dumb shit online and worked at home in sweatpants, and 70 (70! It’s a lot!) congresspeople were caught dumping stocks before the rest of America really learned how bad Covid was about to get. It’s a fucked up system, and sometimes, it seems like there’s really no legit way out of it.
All of that is certainly considered in “Sprung,” the new Amazon Freevee series from “Yes, Dear,” “My Name Is Earl,” and “Raising Hope” creator Greg Garcia. The show’s 10 episodes follow three ex-cons released early because of Covid, who are promptly (and unceremoniously) dropped into society. Jack (Garret Dillahunt) spent...

In the sixth episode of Greg Garcia’s new Freevee comedy Sprung, two characters, while seemingly stealing a truck of valuable art, have a conversation about the Jimmy Buffett musical Escape to Margaritaville. The episode ends with the playing of a full song from said musical; it’s the sort of creative choice that would seem utterly random if you didn’t know that Garcia co-wrote Escape to Margaritaville.
Garcia wrote and directed every episode of Sprung and Garcia is the Rosetta Stone through which almost every second of Sprung can be understood or interpreted. Trying to figure out where you recognize a random supporting actor from? Chances are good that you remember them from a Garcia show. Scratching your head about why a comic cadence, pop-culture reference or piece of kitschy production design feels familiar? Odds are that it’s similar to something from a Garcia show.

I've been hearing nothing but great things about this movie from people who I know who have seen it. I have yet to see if for myself, but judging from the buzz spreading, it's going to deliver some insanely blood-soaked entertainment.
We have a red-band clip for you to watch today called "All In My Mind," and it gives you a little tease of the messed-up and disturbing violence that I've heard this film is filled with. It focuses on Sean Gunn's character in the middle of a crazy shootout that he doesn't want to believe is really happening. Check it out:
The Belko Experiment explores a twisted social experiment "in which a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata and ordered by an unknown voice on an intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed. It’s not...

Before he kicks off next year’s summer movie season with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, another serving of James Gunn will be arriving in theaters a few months prior. The Belko Experiment, directed by Greg McLean (Wolf Creek), is scripted and produced by the Slither director and follows a social experiment that turns deadly. As if everything we know about Scream Queens Season 2 wasn't already terrific, there's even more news to share.
Did we think it was impossible to improve upon the already announced cast? Honestly, no.
And yet, here we are. Kirstie Alley is on board, we learned today. As a series regular!!
Alley is a Golden Globe winner. She's an Emmy winner. She starred on Cheers, headlined NBC's Veronica's Closet, mocked herself in the hilarious and underrated Showtime series Fat Actress and recently took to TV Land for Kirstie.
Now? She'll be playing a brilliant and devious administrator along side Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Glen Powell and Niecy Nash who are set to reprise their Scream Queens Season 1 characters.
Others joining Scream Queen Season 2 as regulars are John Stamos, Taylor Lautner and James Earl.

Fox’s stream of amusing social media teasers for Scream Queens season 2 has another new addition today, as star Lea Michele posted a fresh clip to her Twitter. Clocking in at just under a minute, it’s our first look at her character this season. The twisted and deranged Hester is back!

Last time we saw Hester she had just brokered a sketchy deal with dean Munsch, who’s played by Jamie Lee Curtis. With three years having passed since the events of season one, you might think their alliance has remained true. While it’s hard to tell if Hester is working with Munsch, or is another one of her minions at the medical clinic, I don’t think that matters much for now. The purpose of this clip is,...

Fox’s band of Chanels are headed to medical school in the new promo for Scream Queens season 2 – and John Stamos and Taylor Lautner’s dashing doctors are on hand to ease the transition from Wallace University.
There’s also a peek at Jamie Lee Curtis’ returning Dean Munsch, who shoves a pile of bloody scrubs in the direction of our three leads – Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Abigail Breslin. Fox is prepping audiences to go under the knife – rather brutally, as it were – with a snappy 30-second teaser for Scream Queens season 2. The brief promo shows off the trio of leads, Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin and Billie Lourd, confident and dressed to the nines as they saunter down a hallway. It’s a revealing teaser for the simple reason that The Chanels were last seen carted off to the slammer. So why are they looking too cool for school?
That’ll be the three year time-jump between seasons. No longer behind bars, the girls now work at an asylum owned and run by their former Dean, Cathy Munsch. Roberts told crowds at Comic-Con last week that the Chanels “are trying to remain glamorous despite the fact that they’re broke and have to work.”

The Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life TV show seems to have been cancelled by Fox. The show, starring Jack Cutmore-Scott, Meaghan Rath, James Earl, Charlie Saxton, Justin Bartha, and Liza Lapira, is off the Fox schedule. A rerun of The Simpsons, "Lisa the Veterinarian," has now been scheduled to air in Cooper Barrett's 7:30pm timeslot, on May 8th. As reported last week, the network had already preempted the episode once slated for April 24th.

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life begins with a conspicuously trite sitcom premise. Its titular Wonder Bread-white male lead (played by Jack Cutmore-Scott) speaks directly into the camera about how his life post-college has not exactly been what he envisioned.
His mid-twenties, thus far, have been a mess of mistakes and misadventures – he has yet to land on his feet and seems to stumble into trouble more than stay out of it. He also lives in a comfortable flat in a Los Angeles apartment building with two roommates: the boisterous Barry (James Earl) and the meek computer-savvy Neal (Charlie Saxton). He frequently relies on his forty-year old brother, Josh (Justin Bartha), to bail him out of sticky situations. And he’s potentially falling in love with Kelly (Meaghan Rath), the woman living across the hall, because of course he is.
The show rarely moves beyond that recognizable,...
