Captain Underpants is the family movie of the summer. Here's our review...
Unless you have fond memories of Dav Pilkey's series of books, it's entirely possible that Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie has tra-la-laaa'd its way into cinemas under your radar. Hopefully, you'll seek it out, because this is the funniest and most creative film to come out of DreamWorks Animation in a long time.
The imaginations fuelling the story are fourth-grade children George and Harold (voiced by Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch), who break up the monotony of their life at the unusually austere Jerome Horwitz Elementary School by drawing comics, playing pranks and generally trying to make each other laugh.
Their principal, Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms) hates them for it and on the brink of banishing them to separate classes, an unexpectedly powerful cereal box gift enables the boys to hypnotise him. He comes to believe...

How hysterical do you find the name Professor Poopypants? Not very? Then you are likely a grown adult (and probably female). If you don’t find gags about farts, poop, tinkle, wedgies, and giant toilets endlessly hilarious – if you are not, in body or spirit, a 9-year-old boy, then Dreamworks new animated film Captain Underpants – The First Epic Movie is not for you. And that is precisely the point.
Few things command disrespect like the sight of a grown man wearing his tighty-whities, however the bald and barefoot Captain Underpants happens to be a superhero. As one character in Captain Underpants The First Epic Movie notes: “Most superheroes look like they’re flying around in their underwear…. Well, this guy actually is flying around in his underwear!” The Captain is the comic-book invention of a pair of 9-year old troublemakers, George and Harold (voiced by Thomas Middleditch and Kevin Hart...

Move over Spider-Man. Hop it Bats. Get lost Guardians. There’s a new superhero in town, and his name is Captain Underpants. Adapted from the bestselling children’s books by Dav Pilkey, Captain Underpants is the alter-ego of Principal Krupp, the overweight and cruel leader of Jerome Horwitz Elementary School. He hates children and delights in their misery, so in retaliation, two students hypnotize him and inadvertently turn him into the titular hero.
This new clip from the upcoming Dreamworks CG adaptation, which goes by the mouthful of a title Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, shows that very moment, with the boys amused and aghast at the clumsy, foolhardy creature they’ve created. Now, seasoned superhero fans might be rolling their eyes at this, but in a certain light, isn’t an underpants-wearing principal just as sensible as a radioactive spider dude, or a rich boy dressing up as a bat?...
