‘Trial Period’ director Aleya Sen has spoken about the film and why she chose actress Genelia Deshmukh and the other cast members for the project.
She said: “Trial Period holds a very special place in my heart. As a filmmaker, I like to explore the unconventional dynamics of human relationships. ‘Father on Rent’ as an idea germinated from the perspective of a no-filter thinking Gen Alpha kid, who makes an unexpected demand, turning his mother’s world upside down. The film has a quirky take on the complexities of imperfect families in today’s society.”
Chrome Pictures showcases an endearing tale of unconventional family bond with its upcoming film, ‘Trial Period’, which will premiere on July 21.
Written and directed by Aleya Sen, the film boasts of a stellar cast of Genelia Deshmukh, Manav Kaul, in the lead, with Shakti Kapoor, Sheeba Chadda, Gajraj Rao, and Zidane Braz in significant roles.

‘Begum Jaan’ actress Poonam Rajput has been roped in for Anurag Kashyap’s directorial short film ‘Chaar Chappalein’ also starring Manav Kaul, Randeep Jha, and Sanjay Gandhi. Poonam shared her experience working with the ace filmmaker and also revealed how challenging it was to play a Bihari character for the first time.
She said: “‘Chaar Chappalein’ is an international short film set in Bihar. I portray a 21-year-old newly married woman and am playing the lead opposite Randeep Jha. The film was shot in Varanasi.”
The ‘Mirzapur 2’ actress added that she never played a Bihari character before and language was a challenge for her.
“I had never played a Bihari character in my acting career, so I needed to learn the dialect and accent as I hail from Himachal Pradesh. The shoot started 2 days after I was selected to play the part, so I needed to quickly get into the skin of my character.

In the past decade, the world has increasingly seen the rise of populist leaders to power, many of whom have blatantly wrapped themselves around the notions of xenophobia and bigotry. In fact, many even claim that we’re living in the post-truth era, where widespread narratives concerning disputes over public truth masquerade under barbed nationalist sentiments. For over seven decades now, India – the world’s largest democracy – has been held together by its constitution which promises equality to all its citizens. But with the rise of its populist leader since 2014, the cogs of its culturally rich populace started taking a more sinister turn; the years that have since followed remade a nation where some people count as more Indian than others. The Hindu hyper nationalists not only prefer theology to recast a project of religious statecraft, but there’s also been an increased amount of control over...

The Fame Game
You may argue that the series that heralded Madhuri Dixit Nene in the Ott space frittered away its potential at the end but a second season may just redeem it. Yet, for the most part, this show was a perfect blend of drama, emotional heft, mystery, psychological layers, and histrionics with Dixit demonstrating why she is still considered one of the best actors to grace the silver screen. Tathagat(Mubi)
Starring Harish Khanna, Ghanshayam Lalsa, Himanshu Bhandari
Written & Directed by Manav Kaul
Tathagat as the title suggests, is a meditative melancholic mood-piece on mortality. It is suffused with ideas and ruminations on the quality of life. But clearly the restless disjointed thought-processes do not culminate in any definitive cogent perceptions on the question that haunts the protagonist: what makes life worth living, if not memories?
Harish Khanna whom I’ve seen in powerful but mostly grey peripheral roles, is as grey as they come in this film. He is worshipped as a messiah of sorts in the Himalayan hamlet where the plot nestles uneasily. But Baba(as he is addressed by his disciples) is clearly not the committed godman that he is taken to be.
He has a guilty secret in his past which keeps raring its head like some of kind of a sinfully catchy tune that...

But Baba(as he is addressed by his disciples) is clearly not the committed godman that he is taken to be.
He has a guilty secret in his past which keeps raring its head like some of kind of a sinfully catchy tune that...

Dybbuk
Starring Emraan Hashmi,Nikita Dutta,Manav Kaul
Written & Directed Jay K
Dybbuk tries for some surface variation in the horror convention. It is set in the Jewish community in Mauritius. The scenic island looks good whenever the camera finds time to look, and the Jewish characters converse in Hebrew. And yes, the talented Manav Kaul who recently showed his skills from behind the camera in Tathagat, has an almost parallel role to the film’s official leading man Emraan Hashmi.
Hashmi plays the deadpan husband to the pregnant Nikita Dutta. The unborn child, poor thing, is cursed by a diabolic force trapped in a Dybbuk box… Why not just throw the fancy box in the neighbour’s backyard and get on with the show? This is really not a film we are supposed to make head or tail of. Exploring Jewish mythology with very little conviction (apart from the...

Emraan Hashmi’s Dybbuk is near release and the excitement around the film couldn’t have been higher. Bringing a new story with newer twists, the trailer of the film has managed to create immense intrigue and scare for the film. With sheer coincidence the trailer of the film was also trending on the scary, horror associated number 13 a few days earlier. Now as we near the Prime Video Original film’s release, Emraan has opened up on working in a horror film.
Emraan shared, “I have a love story with horror fims. I keep doing it. And this will go on further. Dybbuk is very different from other films that I have done before. The way my director (Jay) has understanding of jewish mythology which is different from our culture. I personally didn’t know their beliefs, Mythology and when Jay told me I was very intrigued. Sharing the photo on Instagram, the actor wrote in Hindi: "This was only last year but feels like I can't remember when was the last time I visited the mountains. When was the last time I had a hearty laughter or hugged someone after meeting them? Ajeeb Dastaans(Netflix)
Starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, Nusrat Bharucha,Abhishek Bannerjee, Inayat Verma, Shefali Shah, Pavan Kaul
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Kayoze Irani
This is a diverse provocative(sometimes too consciously so) bouquet of stories of four women in search of an emotional and physical fulfillment that eludes them because…well, they have obligations. Don’t we all!
Uneven in quality, some of the plotting conceits verge on the absurd. To begin with, let’s take the first story Majnu directed by Shashank Khaitan. It is a passionless passion-tale about a marriage of convenience between a moneyed dangerous criminal Babloo(Jaideep Ahlawat) and Lipashi(Fatima Sana Sheikh). The film opens with one of Babloo’s henchman making a preposterous pass at his Bhabhaiji, and never recovers its equilibrium.

Entertainment While ‘Geeli Pucchi’ and ‘Ankahi’ make an impact, ‘Khilauna’ and ‘Majnu’ end up being shockingly bad.Saraswati DatarScreenshotAjeeb Daastaans, an anthology of four short films, is a strange combination of two really good films and two that make films my classmates made in college seem great. Now streaming on Netflix, Ajeeb Daastaans is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. Directors Shashank Khaitaan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan and Kayoze Irani are at the helm of four stories Majnu, Khilauna, Geeli Pucchi and Ankahi. The premise or rather promise is that each story brings a shocking, horrifying and/or heartbreaking twist in the tale we never saw coming. Unfortunately, Shashank Khaitaan and Raj Mehta tell tales that seem so self-conscious in their desire to shock that they end up being quite shockingly bad. Ajeeb Daastans is rescued by its brilliant third film, Geeli Pucchi directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, who elicits...

Parineeti Chopra said playing badminton champion Saina Nehwal in the biopic "Saina" became a somewhat easy job because the film's director Amole Gupte is an effortless actor, too.
"I think Amole sir is an extremely effortless actor and during the shooting of Saina, I learnt so much of minimalism in performance. He really taught me how less is more in acting, how just by staying silent, little movements of eyes can depict how an individual is screaming from inside," Parineeti informed.
"Since Amole sir loves children and has worked with them closely, I think he just knows how to extract a performance from an actor. Being a director who is an actor too, there were times he would perform a scene to explain. He could act a very intense scene slowly with a layered performance and it just left me wondering when did the acting start! I really learn the...

Saina
Starring Parineeti Chopra, Meghna Malik, Eshan Naqvi,Pavan Kaul
Directed by Amole Gupte
Thank God for true heroes. And for a film about a true hero like Saina Nehwal rather than some scumbag gangster whose life-story should be thrown into the nearest gutter. Saina is a picture-perfect biopic. Inspiring and engaging, it makes all the right noises (and that includes some wonderfully worded motivational songs in the background) and shuffles its confident feet in the comforting domain.
We may not get to see anything unexpected in this biopic. The bandwidth of storytelling for all sports bio-pics is nearly identical: struggle preferably with a pushy parent goading the prodigy to glory and greatness, the stardom, the fall, the final triumph. Saina goes through the motions with sure-handed efficacy.
The sequences on the badminton court are well shot. Cinematographer Piyush Shah lenses the insecure middle-class girl and her skyhigh dreams in the opposite of rose-tinted glasses.

The Indian Hindi-language biographical sports film 'Saina' is directed by Amole Gupte and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sujay Jairaj and Rashesh Shah under the banner of T-Series and Front Foot Pictures. Based on the life of Indian Badminton champion Saina Nehwal – the former world No.1, the movie stars Parineeti Chopra in the titular role. Mumbai, March 23 (Ians) In 2011, when Parineeti Chopra made her debut with the film Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, and followed it up with films like Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance, few would have imagined the cute, bubbly girl in an intense role as Mira Kapoor in The Girl On The Train, or that she would one day transform into ace shuttler Saina Nehwal in the biopic Saina.
If she has managed to prove her versatility, Parineeti says she seems to have rediscovered herself.
"I feel more liberated now, I feel like I found myself again and I feel great to be myself. You see I introduced to the world through the films and the kind of characters I played in those films. Most of them were the bubbly, happy-go-lucky Punjabi girl who is a drama queen too! Those characters were entertaining and people loved me in those avatars.

Nail Polish (Zee5)
Starring Arjun Rampal, Manav Kaul , Rajit Kapur, Anand Tiwari
Written & Directed by Bugs Bhargava Krishna
Nail Polish is a very ambitious film. The writing is original, startling and sometimes disturbing in its graphic description of gruesome murderous moves and its depiction of a psychological state known as Dissociative Identity Disorder. To carry Veer Singh, and the complex plot that supports his character, to its dismaying dead end, is a task worthy of a seasoned director.
In a sudden midpoint-swerve the intriguingly titled Nail Polish sees its antagonist Veer Singh behaving like a woman.
“I want my nails polished,” Veer, played by that actor par excellence Manav Kaul, coyly tells the stunned nurse.
And I thought, Yeh kahan ‘lacquer’ plot ko aa gaye?
In spite of the often awkward direction, Nail Polish nails it…almost. There are many unanswered questions at the end. But the polished spin that...

Mumbai, Dec 31 (Ians) Actor Manav Kaul was intrigued by the title of his upcoming movie, Nail Polish, right from the start, and says the audience will understand the real reason behind the name only after they watch the film.

New Delhi, Dec 25 (Ians) Actor Manav Kaul had tested positive for Covid a few months ago. He says he was confident that he would be fine, and his sole concern was to ensure he did not spread the virus.
Manav tested positive for Covid-19 on the set of his upcoming film "Nail Polish" in September.
"My doctor friend was very helpful. He said 'you are a fit person and you live alone, so don't worry about anything'. He checked my report and said I had very mild Covid. So I was confident that I would be fine. I just didn't want to give Covid to anyone else. I was completely at home for about two weeks. Then I tested negative, so it was okay," Manav told Ians.
He returned to work after rest, and "Nail Polish" is ready for release now.
"The title is absolutely stunning as far as a thriller is concerned.
