When Law & Order returned earlier this year after several years off the air, fans were happy to have some familiar faces back for the revival.
When Law & Order Season 22 returns in the fall, Anthony Anderson will not be back.
That much we've known for a while, and now, the beloved actor is opening up about his decision.
"I wanted to go off and create more shows like Black-ish, create things that I have ownership in, and do something a little bit different," he explained to Entertainment Tonight.
"We're going out and pitching another drama called Miraculous, which I'm excited about, so looking forward to what that's going to do," he added.
The actor, who played Kevin Bernard on the legal drama, only signed a one-year deal.

Law & Order fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
Sam Waterston will be back for Law & Order Season 22 when it launches on NBC in the fall.
Deadline first reported the news, revealing that Waterston's return as Da Jack McCoy makes him the longest-tenured cast member on the parent series.
When Law & Order Season 21 hit the air earlier this year, Waterston was one of two stars back for the revival.
Anthony Anderson confirmed earlier this year that he would not be back for the forthcoming season, with reports alleging he wanted to help get the revival off the ground.
Anderson was coming off an eight-season run on black-ish, so it is thought the star wants to try out some new roles.
“Since day one, Sam has had perfect pitch when it comes to Jack McCoy as a character who both reflects and expands our ability to understand the law,...

Exclusive: Sam Waterston will continue as Da Jack McCoy on Law & Order‘s upcoming 22nd season on NBC. In doing so, Waterston is extending his Law & Order run to 18 seasons to become the longest-tenured cast member on the mothership series.
Waterston and Anthony Anderson were two prominent cast members from the Law & Order‘s original incarnation on NBC who returned to help launch the revival of Dick Wolf’s venerable crime drama. Both initially signed one-year deals. As Deadline recently reported, Anderson is not coming back for Season 22.
In a promising sign, Waterston appeared on stage of NBCUniversal’s upfront, which showcased programming and talent for the upcoming season; he has signed another one-year deal to continue on the show, I hear.

In the first episode of Ava DuVernay's must-watch Netflix limited series When They See Us, viewers see cops and detectives relentlessly interrogate teenagers Yusef Salaam, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Korey Wise, and Raymond Santana - commonly referred to as the Central Park Five - for up to 30 hours. Under the direction of Linda Fairstein, head of the Manhattan district attorney's sex crimes unit, the cops working the case coerced false confessions from four out of the five teens by lying to them about nonexistent evidence against the others and leading them to believe they were simply being interrogated as witnesses. Despite the absence of any DNA evidence linking them to the crime, all five teens were convicted and spent years behind bars.
Police videotaped the teens' confessions, but they failed to record the hours and hours that lead up to their eventual admission of guilt. And, although it is...

New York — New York is a safer, less fearful place than it was in 1990, when murders hit an all-time high, race relations were raw and the city felt under siege from drug dealers and gangs on "wilding" sprees. But one major piece of unfinished business from back then still hangs over the city and its legal system: the Central Park jogger case.
Five black and Hispanic boys were convicted that year in the rape and grisly beating of a white woman jogging in the park, and they went on to serve six to 13 years in prison before their convictions were thrown out in 2002 because of evidence linking someone else to the crime.
They sued police and prosecutors for $250 million. But the lawsuit has languished for a decade with no resolution in sight.
Now, a growing chorus of lawmakers is asking New York City to settle with the five men. And...

The man accused of trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman is seeking a plea deal that would have him spend only a year in jail.
Robert Halderman, the CBS News producer who was arrested in October, is reportedly talking to prosecutors about a deal in which he'd plead guilty in exchange for a one-year sentence -- way below the maximum 15 years he'd face if convicted by a jury.
That's the word, anyway, from the New York Post, which cites unnamed sources in its report on the plea offer. Halderman's lawyer, Gerald Shargel, denies it, saying, "There have been no plea negotiations. None whatsoever."
Shargel also tells the paper he's still pursuing a motion to have the case dismissed and will file more papers on the motion later this week.
If a deal is made, it won't be by current Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau. Incoming D.A. Cyrus Vance Jr.

A CBS newsman who prosecutors said was desperate and deep in debt was charged Friday with trying to blackmail David Letterman for $2 million in a plot that forced the late night comic to acknowledge having sex with some of the women who have worked for him.The bizarre case created a messy legal and professional problem for one of CBS' most valuable personalities. Commentators and bloggers quickly accused Letterman of hypocrisy because he has made a career of mocking politicians mercilessly, often for their sexual transgressions. From a strictly business perspective, Letterman's revelations on Thursday's show were an immediate success: His overnight ratings were up 38 percent over the same night a week ago, the Nielsen Co. said.It remains to be seen whether Letterman will suffer long-term damage just as his career appears to be peaking.
