Ruben Östlund’s latest satire, Triangle of Sadness, dominated the European Film Awards with four wins, including Best Film, the evening’s top prize.
Östlund also picked up the Best Screenplay and Best Director Awards for his work on the film, and Zlatko Burić nabbed Best Actor for his leading role.
The film, which picked up this year’s Palme d’Or, follows Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), a celebrity model couple who are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared Instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting to stay alive.
In other top prizes, Vicky Krieps won the Best Actress award for the well-received period drama Corsage, and the Javier Bardem starrer, The Good Boss, won Best Comedy.

‘Corsage’ Star Vicky Krieps on Playing a ‘Princess Imprisoned in the Image of Being a Woman’ (Video)
Vicky Krieps, the actress from Luxembourg who introduced herself to a new audience by playing a headstrong woman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread,” has come to TIFF 2022 with “Corsage,” a drama about a woman Krieps has felt a connection to since she was 15: Austrian Empress Elisabeth.
Krieps and director Maria Kreutzer stopped by TheWrap and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto Film Festival to talk about “Corsage,” which follows the Empress (Krieps) on her 40th birthday, an age that, according to 19th century Bavarian society, made her an old woman. Feeling increasingly isolated by both royal circles and her own husband, Emperor Franz Joseph (Florian Teichtmeister), Elisabeth finds herself imprisoned by her own elite status and starts looking for any way to rebel against it, no matter how small.
Krieps said that growing up, she felt free to do whatever she wished and admired...

Created by Thierry Faber and directed by Christophe Wagner, the hit Luxembourg series has just been acquired by Netflix, marking a first for the Grand Duchy. Claude Waringo of Samsa Film has a lot to be excited about: the development of stories in the Luxembourg language and within a local context - a vocation that’s dear to the producer and his associates Jani Thiltges and Bernard Michaux - is arousing increasing levels of interest. Let’s not forget that in 1989, just as the company was launching activities, it was entrusted with the production of a fiction film which went on to acquire cult status: Schacko Klak by Paul Kieffer and Fränk Hoffmann, the first full-length film to be made in Luxembourg. The success enjoyed by this historical drama led to an unprecedented mobilisation of the industry and the professionalisation of its structures. Thirty or so years later, Samsa Film is.

The Romanian Film Centre/Cnc Romania has confirmed that Alexander Nanau’s well-received documentary Collective will be Romania’s official Oscar entry for Best International Feature.
The selection marks the first time a Romanian documentary has been the country’s official submission.
The film follows a team of investigative journalists as they uncover shocking, widespread corruption. After a deadly nightclub fire, the mysterious death of the owner of a powerful pharmaceutical firm, and the quiet resignation of a health minister—seemingly unrelated events, all within weeks of each other—the team of reporters exposes a much larger, much more explosive political scandal. Here’s the film’s trailer.

The first official trailer and new poster for the documentary feature film “Collective,” which debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year, has been shared exclusively with Variety.
Directed by Alexander Nanau (“Toto and His Sisters”), the film follows a team of investigative journalists at the Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor as they try to uncover a vast health-care fraud. As they follow the facts, they find shocking, widespread corruption involving enriched moguls and politicians that lead to the deaths of innocent citizens.
Magnolia Pictures plans to submit the film for the upcoming Academy Awards in the best documentary feature category. The film also has a chance to be Romania’s official submission for best international feature.
Variety reviewed the film saying, “Every now and then a documentary doesn’t just open your eyes but tears you apart by exposing a moral rift with resonance far beyond the film’s home country.

Participant and Magnolia Pictures have acquired the North American rights to “Collective,” a documentary from director Alexander Nanau (“Toto and His Sisters”) that traces a thread of corruption to the highest levels of the Romanian government in the wake of a devastating nightclub fire, the companies announced Thursday.
