- Songwriter and advertising executive who came up with the famous advertising campaign for Coca Cola featuring "I'd like to Buy the World a Coke/Teach the World to Sing"
- After high school, he served in the Navy for two years before earning an undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1950. After selling real estate and writing freelance advertising jingles, he joined McCann Erickson, a major Madison Avenue firm in 1953. He started as a mail-room trainee and worked his way up to vice chairman and creative director.
