Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 96th Academy Awards (Oscars), where some of the most successful films of the previous year were honored. He was quick to break into his bag of prepared one-liners, even though he acknowledged the show was running five minutes behind schedule. He proceeded to roast several of the night’s most prominent guests, such as Christopher Nolan, Bradley Cooper, and Robert Downey Jr.
After the drama and controversy of Kimmel’s time hosting this year’s Oscars, fans are seeking a new face to take on the prestigious role next year. There have been countless iterations of Superman in the world of multimedia, all trying to showcase a different perspective and take on the superhero. One of the biggest and most unique among the several properties in which this character is an integral part has to be CW’s Superman and Lois TV series.
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in a still from Superman and Lois
Instead of focusing on the extraordinary exploits of the Symbol of Hope, this series focuses more on the personal life of the individual as Clark Kent rather than Superman, which was the reason why many liked the show so much. Although the ratings weren’t something to brag about, they were still respectable enough to not let the show be canceled like it has. And with that, it’s revealed that WB had made this decision because of the upcoming Superman in the Dcu.

Well, it seems that the Dcu is indeed playing some kind of game that the people do not like at all. With Superman and Lois being two integral characters of cinematic storytelling, it comes naturally that the two characters will indeed be seen in James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy.
But to cancel a pre-existing CW series by the name of Superman and Lois so that there’s no confusion for the people… is quite a dumb move. Well, that’s exactly what Warner Bros. did before the release of Superman: Legacy!

The first reactions to Paul King’s Wonka, the prequel to Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, are in, with much praise for the film’s star Timothée Chalamet as the enigmatic Willy Wonka.
The origin film follows Chalamet’s Willy Wonka from his beginnings selling candy in a small shop to his rise as an eccentric genius chocolatier and the creation of his fantastical chocolate factory.
“#Wonka/ #WonkaMovie is a winning confection, filled with perfect amounts of charm, whimsy & poignancy, powered by pure imagination & bright, nimble musical numbers,” wrote Courtney Howard. “Timothée Chalamet is a charisma factory. His full committal is intoxicating. Hugh Grant in exceptional Idgaf mode.”
Gizmodo senior reporter Germain Lussier wrote that Chalamet “alone is reason to see the film,” adding “He’s infinitely charming and a blast to watch.” However, he wrote, “The movie around him isn’t as good but it’s enjoyable.

While many rolled their eyes at the thought of a Willy Wonka origin story, the talent of those involved started to win people over. Writer/director Paul King achieved perfection with his Paddington movies and Timothée Chalamet is in the midst of an all-star rise to the top; thankfully, those ingredients seem to have mixed into a lovely family movie just in time for the holidays. Wonka had its world premiere in London today, and the first reactions have begun to emerge.
We’ve assembled a handful of Wonka first reactions below and will update with more as they come in.

Timothée Chalamet transformed into Willy Wonka for Paul King’s eponymously-titled prequel for the beloved character, but that doesn’t mean first reactions weren’t full of a few critics calling the film nuts.
Chalamet stars as a young entrepreneur setting out to build a chocolate empire in musical film “Wonka.” The film is set 25 years before the events of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” with the feature being deemed a “companion” film to the 1971 original Roald Dahl adaptation. Actor Simon Farnaby wrote the script alongside director King, reuniting after “Paddington 2.” King previously teased that “Wonka” would harness the magic of the “golden age of MGM musicals” hailing from the 1940s and ’50s to tell the sweet tale.

In just over two weeks, ‘The Marvels,’ the 33rd installment in the MCU and the franchise’s last release this year, hits the screens. Initially intended as a second standalone Captain Marvel film, ‘The Marvels’ took a turn when it became evident that the limelight would be shared with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. This twist in plans was sparked by some peculiar power dynamics hinted at in the concluding moments of the ‘Miss Marvel’ Disney+ series.
Due to ongoing strikes, the film didn’t receive as much promotional attention, and the anticipated Box Office figures don’t paint a rosy picture for what happens to be the most expensive MCU movie in the Multiverse Saga. Nevertheless, as the release date draws near, more leaks and rumors surface on social media, perhaps in a bid to generate excitement for a movie that, until now, hasn’t garnered much attention.

A little over two weeks stand between us and the release of ‘The Marvels,’ the 33rd movie in the MCU and the final movie to be released in the franchise this year. ‘The Marvels’ was first planned to be a second Captain Marvel standalone movie until it became clear that the spotlight would be shared with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan due to some weird power entanglement that could be seen at the end of ‘Miss Marvel’ Disney+ show.
Due to the strikes, the movie wasn’t as promoted, and the projected Box office numbers do not look so good for what stands to be the most expensive MCU movie in the Multiverse Saga. Still, the closer we come to the release date, the more leaks and rumors we can come across on various social media, perhaps in attempts to hype up the movie that, so far, hasn’t received so much hype.

‘Superman: Legacy’ stands out as one of the most eagerly awaited DC projects in quite a while, marking a fresh chapter in the Dceu’s journey under the guidance of Gunn and Safran. This upcoming installment is poised to deliver a unique Superman narrative, departing from Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the ‘Man of Steel.’ Despite fans expressing some disappointment over Cavill not reprising the Superman role, the confirmed cast has managed to win their approval.
While the film’s release is still a while off, scheduled for July 11, 2025, occasional nuggets of information trickle in, often courtesy of well-known sources on X. One current rumor making the rounds is that Kurt Russell is rumored to make a cameo appearance in ‘Superman: Legacy’ as Jor-El, as per DanielPRK.

‘Superman: Legacy’ is one of the most anticipated DC projects in a long time, following Dceu’s soft reboot into Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu.
‘Superman: Legacy’ is set to present a different kind of Superman story, leaving behind Henry Cavill’s ‘Man of Steel.’ And even though the fans weren’t exactly happy that Henry Cavill would not be taking on the role of Superman, they were pleased enough with the current confirmed cast.

‘Superman: Legacy’ is one of the most anticipated superhero movies. The film could mark a new renaissance period for DC Comics, which is having a really bad time at the box office right now. ‘Flash’ failed completely at the box office, being one of the worst box office bombs in Warner Bros.’ history. Meanwhile, ‘Aquaman 2’ has been plagued with major reshoots, and it seems like the movie is just a mess. ‘Blue Beetle,’ which will be released quickly, seems missing in action, as no one really cares about this obscure new superhero. DC, and Marvel, for that matter, need the big names to come forward, and ‘Superman: Legacy’ could be that push that DC needs to make it big once again.

Gunn, who is DC Studio’s co-chairman and co-ceo, is set to direct the Man of Steel’s next iteration with a planned release in 2025.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director has been responding to casting rumours on Twitter as the search for his lead actor continues.
On Wednesday (29 March), Gunn shared that he was “making private lists” for candidates while also preparing audition materials.

James Gunn is still searching for his Man of Steel. The DC Studios head shot down rumors that casting for his highly anticipated young-Superman film is nearing completion on Twitter Wednesday, as well as the notion that actor Logan Lerman is the top candidate.
On Wednesday, Grace Randolph, a YouTube host and internet personality, tweeted that she heard casting for Gunn’s upcoming “Superman: Legacy,” a reboot of the character focusing on the beginning of his career, is “very close” to being set. After a fan tagged Gunn asking him to weigh in, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director said the rumor was false and that he “hadn’t had a single talk with a single actor about the role.” He did share that he was “making private lists” for candidates, however, and was in the middle of prepping audition materials for the film.

The search for the new Superman actor is not as far along as some social media rumors suggest. “Beyond the Trailer” host Grace Randolph recently took to Twitter to announce Gunn is “very close” to landing an actor to play the eponymous superhero in his upcoming “Superman: Legacy.” Randolph went as far as to claim the role “might even be cast” already, or an actor is in “final talks.” Not so fast. Gunn shot down the report and provided an update on his Superman casting process.
“Not true,” Gunn replied. “Haven’t had a single talk with a single actor about the role. Just making private lists, prepping material for auditions.”
Randolph took Gunn’s rebuttal as an opportunity to reveal her scoop that it was “Percy Jackson” and “Hunters” star Logan Lerman who is Gunn’s top choice for Superman. Gunn also shot down that claim.

House of the Dragon fans have a new favourite actor.
Until now, Matt Smith has been the audience’s champion for his turn as the ruthless Daemon Targaryen. Some have even argued that Smith “carries” the series.
However, in episode eight, viewers were introduced to a new star who immediately won praise for his unnerving performance.
After a roughly six-year time jump between episodes seven and eight, Ewan Mitchell has taken over as Aemond Targaryen, Daemon’s nephew.
The actor has a striking appearance due to his eyepatch and scar over one eye where Lucerys, Rhaenyra’s son, slashed him during a conflict in the last episode.
It’s clear, however, that in the six years that have passed, Aemond has grown into a ruthless fighter, demonstrating his sword skills over Ser Criston Cole.
Fans on social media were quick to praise Mitchell’s casting as the character.

Early word is in for “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie’s flamboyant spin on the origin story of iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil, and the film looks to be a winner. Emma Stone is being praised for her wicked twist on the “101 Dalmatians” villainess. Emma Thompson is also being singled out for her turn as Baroness von Hellman, the head of a swank fashion house and also a renowned haute fashion legend. Check out first reactions below.
Disney’s synopsis for “Cruella” reads: “In 1970s London, young fashion designer Estella de Vil becomes obsessed with dogs’ skins, especially Dalmatians, until she eventually becomes a ruthless and terrifying legend known as Cruella.”
Like many indie filmmakers, Gillespie turned his indie film success into a Disney tentpole directing gig. The filmmaker last worked with Disney on two projects: “The Finest Hours” and “Million Dollar Arm,” although neither title found great box office success.

It may have been a monster hit that raked in over $850 million at the box office, giving Sony the confidence to once again forge ahead on a shared universe only loosely connected to Spider-Man, but Venom was a very strange movie. The narrative, script, cinematography, visual effects and direction were all sorely lacking, and yet there was something fascinatingly watchable about the symbiotic origin story.
A lot of that had to do with Tom Hardy’s performance, where the acclaimed actor was clearly given carte blanche to play Eddie Brock however the hell he wanted, so he decided that a jittery sweating mess of nervousness and neuroses was the way to go. Somehow, it worked, with Hardy anchoring a pedestrian story with the sort of bravura turn full of eccentricities that the superhero genre could really do with seeing more often.

The Fantastic Four are on their way to the McU. Last month, a(nother) reboot movie for Marvel’s First Family was finally officially announced, with Spider-Man director Jon Watts set to helm, but we still have many questions about how the heroes will be folded into the franchise. For one, given how Marvel usually does things, it’s unlikely their own film will be where they’re introduced. And, according to the latest word on the topic, one of the foursome could debut before the rest.
Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph has shared what she’s heard about the Four’s arrival in the McU on social media. “#Marvel is looking for #FantasticFour actors right now & will likely go w/ smaller, highly regarded actors rather than a big name,” the scooper said. Last month, it was finally announced that another Fantastic Four reboot is on its way, with Spider-Man director Jon Watts at the helm. It might not be long, then, before we find out who’s going to play Marvel’s First Family in the McU. Yes, according to new intel, the Four may debut in Ant-Man 3 Aka Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

No offense to Ray Fisher, but the idea of audiences turning up in their droves to see a Cyborg solo movie always seemed more than a little far-fetched, especially when his entire involvement as part of the Dceu had amounted to a Gif in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and a severely underwritten and under-cooked supporting role in Justice League where he wasn’t given a great deal to do.
Of the ten installments in Warner Bros.’ shared universe that were announced on that fateful day in October 2014, just half of them have been released in their intended form. Admittedly, that’s only if you don’t count Joss Whedon’s Justice League as official canon, which a great deal of fans and several contracted talents certainly don’t.

A lot of people have been lauding Patty Jenkins’ superhero sequel as a hopeful and optimistic breath of fresh air during incredibly dark times around the world, while there are others who simply believe it to be a very bad movie.
Gal Gadot’s return as Diana Prince is currently the lowest-rated Dceu entry on IMDb, has faced unwanted comparisons to Green Lantern from fans and the critical consensus has been sliding slowly downward, with the film now holding a 61% Rotten Tomatoes score and veering dangerously close to Rotten territory in the process, although users have ranked it at a much higher 74%.

One of the major talking points surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 was the return of Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, although it had little to do with the actor’s typically charming presence. Instead, most of the focus was placed on the plot device used to bring him back from the dead, which left a lot of people feeling uneasy the more that they thought about it.
Patty Jenkins has brushed off the criticism, but there are already rumors making the rounds that Pine will be back again for Wonder Woman 3, even though he’s technically been killed off twice and the third installment is poised to be the first one set in the modern day, which would force the creative team to come up with yet another far-fetched explanation as to why he’s still around over 100 years later.

It’s fair to say that nobody was expecting the bombshell announcement that Michael Keaton is set to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne for the first time since 1992 in The Flash. How exactly his Batman will factor into things still remains unclear, but we know that he’ll be taking on a Nick Fury-like role as a veteran mentor to young Barry Allen.
Apparently, the film will see the titular hero go back in time in an effort to prevent the death of his mom, which leads to him creating another universe and it’s here that we’ll meet Keaton, with his Caped Crusader being the protector of this alternate reality. Not only that, but we’re now learning that he’ll actually become the main Batman in the Dceu timeline as well eventually, rather than have Ben Affleck or even Robert Pattinson take on that particular role.

Ray Fisher went from the forgotten man of the Dceu to a constant thorn in the side of the Warner Bros. hierarchy, stemming from his run-ins with Joss Whedon during the director’s extensive Justice League reshoots. The Cyborg star was so determined to see Whedon held accountable for what he’d done that he invited legal action if the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly creator’s representatives could prove that what he was saying wasn’t true. This led to the studio launching an investigation of their own into the allegations, which concluded with them deciding that there was no evidence of wrongdoing, essentially labeling the actor a liar in the process.

Ever since The Mandalorian‘s season 2 finale ended with a post-credits scene confirming The Book of Boba Fett would be coming to Disney Plus in December of next year, there’s been confusion over what the future holds for Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin. This led to speculation that The Mandalorian could be adopting an anthology format moving forward, with The Book of Boba Fett acting as a trial run of sorts. However, when Robert Rodriguez was revealed to be joining the creative dream team of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to executive produce the legendary bounty hunter’s solo series, it came with the confirmation that it’ll be a standalone project that takes place in the same timeline.

Several months back, unconfirmed reports were making the rounds that Pedro Pascal had grown disillusioned with his role as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian after spending so much time under the helmet, to the extent where he’d simply refused to play ball and stormed off the set. Further reports claimed that he was being difficult to work with and had even threatened to take the issue to Lucasfilm directly, before it was quietly debunked and never spoken of again. Until now, that is. Time to throw on those tinfoil hats and take a deep dive into conspiracy theory territory, because insider Grace Randolph has hinted that Din Djarin might not be the series lead when The Mandalorian returns for season 3.
