FX, Lee Daniels and 20th Television are taking another stab at adapting Sam Greenlee’s spy novel The Spook Who Sat By The Door as a TV series after a pilot, written by Leigh Dana Jackson and directed by Gerard McMurray did not go forward at the network.
“We are working on a redeveloping of it,” FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier told Deadline Thursday during an interview tied to the network’s TCA presentation. “Lee Daniels is still involved, and they are working on it. We are reworking on the development side of it, we are not going forward with the current pilot, which Leigh Dana Jackson tweeted about awhile ago.”
The Spook Who Sat By The Door has been a passion project for Daniels who optioned Greenlee’s book in 2018 through his Inclusion Fund. A year later, the project was set up at FX with Jackson as writer and showrunner.

Lucas Till (MacGyver), Nafessa Williams (Black Lightning), Nathan Darrow (Preacher) and Tom Irwin (The Morning Show) have joined the cast of Lee Daniels’ FX pilot The Spook Who Sat by the Door.
They join previously announced cast members Y’lan Noel and Christina Jackson in the TV adaptation of Sam Greenlee’s spy novel. Production is underway.
The potential series will tell the fictional story of Dan Freeman (Noel), a patriot and Vietnam vet, who is recruited as the only Black operative in the CIA as part of an affirmative-action program in the late 1960s. After a very competitive selection process he trains in high-level combat and espionage. However, following this arduous training, this model recruit is rewarded with a post in the reprographics (aka photocopying) department, “left by the door” as a token of the CIA’s “racial equality.”

If you’re up to speed on Gotham, then you remember meeting Eduardo Dorrance in the most recently aired episode, “Pena Dura.” Played by Shane West, this fella will actually transition to the Bane persona before you know it, but he’s going to be giving Jim Gordon and the rest of the Gcpd their share of headaches before the big moment arrives.
Believe it or not, it seems like West’s previously established working relationship with executive producer Danny Cannon helped in landing him the role. In fact, this was something the actor elaborated on during a recent chat with ComicBook.com:
“Well, it was out of the blue as I’m assuming a lot of their final season was. Gotham had now gone into five years and they were trying to, they had saved some characters for the finale so I think Bane was always one that they...

If you tuned in for last night’s episode of The Flash, “The Icicle Cometh,” then you were witness to what I believe to be one of season 5’s best offerings thus far. I mean, not only was it an enjoyable viewing experience, but we also learned the true origin of Killer Frost at long last.
If you were along for the ride, then you remember when Caitlin Snow’s father, Thomas, mentioned a few scientists he’d corresponded with during his time experimenting with radical cryogenic technology. One was Harrison Wells, whom we could assume was actually Eobard Thawne, with the other two being classic DC Comics villains.
In addition to Louise Lincoln, another woman to take on the Killer Frost moniker in the source material, none other than Victor Fries was name-dropped. In a sense, the Arrowverse has finally rounded out the cold quartet consisting of Captain Cold,...

As of late, The CW have been revealing many puzzle pieces making up the next major Arrowverse crossover – it’s just that we have no idea of how they fit. All we can do is hope that an official plot synopsis is disclosed soon enough because all we can tell is that whatever’s planned will be huge and likely badass.
To briefly reiterate, Ruby Rose will suit up as the first ever live action iteration of Batwoman, Tyler Hoechlin will return as Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch will play opposite him as Lois Lane, and Cassandra Jean Amell has been cast as Nora Fries, wife of Mr. Freeze.
Adding to the excitement is Jeremy Davies being joining the mix as Dr. John Deegan, who just so happens to work at Arkham Asylum. If you’re a lover of comics and don’t recognize the name, don’t fret, because it appears...

The Arrowverse crossover is keeping it in the family with its latest addition: Cassandra Jean Amell — the real-life wife of Arrow lead Stephen Amell — will play Nora Fries, the wife of the classic DC Comics villain Mr. Freeze, in the multi-show event, TVLine has learned.
Will the baddie Mr. Freeze himself be appearing in the crossover? A spokesperson for Warner Bros. TV tells TVLine that the extremely chill villain, who on Gotham for example has been played by Nathan Darrow, will not be making an appearance. (Arnold Schwarzenegger also took on the cool role in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin.

In case you hadn’t heard, a recent indicator had been that of some comments made by executive producers John Stephens and Danny Cannon, saying that Jerome Valeska will soon be forming his own “Legion of Horribles.” Basically, he plans on uniting the more recognizable burgeoning supervillains under his own insane vision before spreading Arkham Asylum’s madness out into Gotham City at large.

“The Wizard of Lies” is constructed to mimic Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme: an expertly orchestrated con with a significant payday. But the film, based on Diana Henriques’ book, one ups its inspiration by actually pulling off the scam; first by suckering the audience into investing in a masterful liar, then carefully planting seeds of doubt, and ultimately sneaking up and crushing its shareholders with a devastating final act.
In other words, Barry Levinson’s adaptation is a more complex and accomplished work than we’ve seen from many so-called biopics, as well as HBO Films’ best entry since “Behind the Candelabra.” In fact, in many ways, it’s the opposite of Steven Soderbergh’s gaudy and enticing “final” film. Rather than delivering too much of a good thing, “The Wizard of Lies” is an exercise in the power of restraint — especially from its lead, Robert De Niro.

"You're asking me how I didn't know?" Are you a fan of late-career Robert De Niro and slow covers of The Police hits? You’re in luck: The latest trailer for HBO Films’ upcoming Bernie Madoff biopic, “The Wizard of Lies,” has plenty of both.
Over the melancholy strains of “King of Pain,” we get our first look at De Niro as Madoff, the architect of a investment-based Ponzi scheme that cratered in late 2008. Judging by the footage in this first extended look, the film focuses more on the collapse, media response, and highly publicized trial than the events that led to them. Luckily, that means more of Michelle Pfeiffer as Madoff’s wife Ruth, who looks to be the character most capable of delivering this film’s standout moments.

Who’s the best bad guy on “Gotham”? We all have very strong opinions on this, but only one of us can be right. What follows is our ballot, as we rank all the bad guys we’ve seen so far. This list will be updated with new villains as they come in season 3 and beyond, and as characters warrant reevaluation. 33. Harvey Dent (Nicolas D’Agosto) Not actually a villain yet, so technically he sucks. I’m sure he’ll move up once he becomes Two Face. For now, he’s just generally unhelpful as Gotham’s Da. 32. A new promo spot has been released for Gotham offering fans a little tease of what we can expect to see in season three, which is the "Mad City" season. The promo is set to a cover of Metallica's song "Nothin Else Matters," and we get to see the return of several old villains from the series as well as a couple quick shots of a new addition. It appears to be a young version of Killer Croc, and James Gordon attempts to fight him, but it doesn't look like he stands a chance. We also get our first footage of the new and older version of Poison Ivy.
As a fan of the series, I'm excited to see where season three takes these characters, and I'm looking forward to the new ones that will be introduced.
